I never thought I'd live to see the day the Iron Curtain would fall, and to think it's 21 years already. It still brings tears to my eyes watching the footage of men sledge hammering the wall with such emotion in their faces. When I mention Soviet era events to the 20 and even 30-somethings I work with, they usually have little or no idea about any of it. Kind of sad, but understandable. Oh well, I like being dinosaur.
When the wall fell, a few years later boat loads of surplus stuff became available. I have a Polish army field uniform, and an East German army helmet both acquired in the early 90's. It would be cool to see what type of tools are actually made in Russia today. I can't imagine they'd want to be beholden to their rival China for something that warms the cockles of a Communists heart like tools/factory/production, comrade....
