Anyone have any experience using the 10x product on a well worn PT deck? The wife saw a commercial and had the bright idea to have me do our 18x18 deck with it.watched a couple of YouTube videos on it. Seems pretty simple but I figured I'd ask the audience!

Someone just told me they are taking Restore off the market for longevity performance - check into it. I have a deck to do maybe next week, going with another brand.

EDIT : Looks like Lowe's is merely going to stop carrying it rather than Rustoleum stopping production. Many different similar products have spotty reviews. Wood breathes- it's going to be tough to get any long-lasting product out there that's water-based IMO.

I wish it did work, it looks good in the literature. However, I think it would perform as any solid body stain, or surface stain would. You've probably seen latex paint used on a deck, and with time, water gets trapped underneath, and the paint peels up in sheets. If it didn't peel up, the underlying wood would rot from trapped moisture. It does anyway in most uses of latex paint on a deck. I think that product will perform in the same manner, just my opinion though. You can use a square flooring sander with 20 to 80 grit paper to smooth a rough deck, taking care with your fasteners. Good luck with it!

My local Lowe's has it on sale currently for 71.00 for the 2.7 gallon pail. Glad I saw this first because I was tempted to buy. Are Restore and Restore 10x the same product?

Restore is 4 times thicker than paint, restore 10x is 10times thicker. The finish is almost like bedliner material.

Thanks eric_koski. Does anyone know if they're taking both products off of the market or just regular Restore?

I noticed that at my Lowes they had a printed sign stating ways to get the best performance from the stuff. Proper prep seemed important, but mainly using enough of the product. It apparently does not go far per can, and needs two coats. I guess people are trying to stretch it too thin. When I saw the sign at the paint desk my first thought was that folks were complaining. So likely not really the products fault.

We did the regular restore last summer. Spent almost a month doing an extremely large deck surrounding our above ground pool. Spent around $1500.00 in product. (Yes it is that big). It looked good after we put it down. We followed the instructions to the letter. So imagine our shock this spring when we go out to the deck and see large sections of it flaking off and other areas bubbling up.

I took pictures last time I was home to send to the company to see what their excuse is. But I wouldn't waste your time on this product.

I also put down Restore last summer. I purchased a 4 gallon bucket and a 1 gallon bucket and used all of it for two coats on a 168sqft deck. The deck was cleaned using the rustoleum deck cleaner and put down exactly as the instructions stated. This spring the product started peeling off in sheets.
Rustoleum was nice enough to refund my purchase price for the product after I provided proof of purchase and pictures of the damage, but I still have to strip the deck and decide on another product.

I did a 20x20 deck with it and I wasn't happy with it at all. I ended up using way more product than Rustoleum thought I would. I prepped the deck just like they told me to and the applied the product over a 2-day period. (Railing the first day and decking the second). The end result looked nice until I put my deck furniture back on it. What I noticed was that during the day, the sun would warm up the product so much that my deck furniture would stick to it. Whenever I moved the furniture it would make a permanent mark on the deck. Overall, I just wasn't happy with it.

A buddy of mine stained his deck with Australian Timber Oil and according to him it is a wonderful product. It is made by Cabot and it is my understanding they have a decent reputation for good products. At least that is what I have heard. I personally do not know much about paints or stains, but I do read a lot and from what I have read and from people have told me, Cabot seems to have pretty good products.

have to re-do a 10x16 deck, almost bought that rustoleum restore 10x lucky I didn't,with all these horrible stories and reviews on both the olympic and rustoleum brand..

So what option is left for me.

I just pressure washed it so far waiting for it to dry.

Behr has a similar product and it also has lots of bad reviews.

I was reading through all the reviews of these "restore" products and I noticed that the only people who were happy with them are the folks
who recently used them, the people who applied this stuff over 6 months ago now have complaints. So in theory, it will look great at first and then turn to ****. Sounds like Olympic, Behr, and rustoleum need to go back and do their homework.

yea lucky I didn't buy them was about to paid.
Decided to go with the Flood CFW-UV instead since the other better rated products are Internet order only and don't ship to Connecticut or NY and only one locally available.
what do other ppl use? I used the thomson seal before this, it had bad ratings, and deck was gray after 1 year or so.
