Here's the drill (pun inteded). Went up to HD with the drill, they called the Ryobi 800 number they use (and had to wait) then handed the phone to me. The Ryobi person on the other end verified the serial number on the drill, took my address and phone and told me to box it up and leave it on the front porch for FEDEX to pick up in like 10 days. Then, presumeably, a new one will be sent to me.
So I guess you don't have to take it to HD, just call the Ryobi Customer Service line. Sorry, I don't have that number.

Along those same lines, I was just talking to a friend in Ontario and he uses nothing but Ridgid stuff. He says he has a lifetime guarnatee on batteries. He just sends them in and gets a new one. Does anyone know if it works like that down here?

After talking to these guys and thinking about it. The Ryobi representative didn't give me an address to put on the box. Did they give one to anyone else?
Just got my replacement drill today from Ryobi. Took 12 days from the time Fedex picked up the defective one. I like the one hand chuck on the new one.

The drill I have came in one of the ryobi super sets bought from HD in late 2002. Did anyone else get theirs that way or did you buy them individually?
I got mine with the kit, too. It was the oldest of my two drills. Worked fine all these years. Although I think the circ saw is dying. It doesn't cut near as good as it used to. Even with a new blade. Lack of power/torque. Anyone else see this condition?
But now, I may have a new problem. When I plugged in a batt and threw a driver bit in my replacement drill, I noticed it was running out. So when I get done with this post, I'll be calling Ryobi again.

. I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on several new batteries so I just charge the old ones and save the lithiums for the circular and reciprocating saws.Update on the replacement drill that is running out.
I finally got to call Ryobi. The tech didn't know how to handle this problem and checked with someone further up the food chain. I was instructed to take the drill to the nearest service center for repairs. They gave me the names and locations of the centers in my area. As it turned out, one was in the city where I live. I'll be going there today and will report in with the results.
That brings up a good point. Did it look like a refurb or return? I assume these units are brand new, but who knows.
