Fedex just picked up my old one.

Looks like most of you that received the replacement already only waited about two weeks- I'll note when I get mine to help others gauge the wait.

Looking forward to the upgrade.

I am sorry, but what is this "run out" you are talking about, I am not familiar with the term. I have 3 of the recalled units that shipped out 11/09 and would like to know the trouble you have experienced with the replacements. Thanks

From my earlier post: Somehow, the main spindle of the drill gun is bent or out of alignment. It's like pointing your finger straight out and then making a big circle with that finger but keeping your hand still.

When I stuck the Dewalt driver tool in the chuck and turned it on, it wobbled like it was bent. So if I were to use a drill bit, it would cut bigger than its size.

The longer the bit or tool I put in the chuck, the more 'run out' I will get. If I use one of my 12 inch long drills like for making a hole for an electrical wire, imagine the size of the hole.

Good for you, AutoClassic.

I'm still waiting to hear from the repair shop on mine. Maybe this week.

Got my replacement in the mail last night. Fair warning... it comes in a generic brown box. I was expecting something with Ryobi on it or something official looking. It has someone's name on it in the return address and the company name (TTI Inc). I finally decided it wasn't anthrax and opened it to find my drill enclosed with manual.

Replacement arrived today, 14 days after the pickup.

This is definitely a refurb or display model- has small dings and battery use marks.

No worries, looks new enough- will test later.

Rarified, Hope you checked for run out.

I called the service center where I dropped mine off (see above posts) just now and they say they will be getting to it on the next day or so. They work on a bunch of brands so they are uber busy. Will keep you informed...

Replacement is good- runs straight, wobble free.

The extra motor "oomph" is notable compared to the recalled model. Smoothly zipped a 1/2" spade bit through a 2x4. It's certainly not the power of my DeWalt 18v, but nothing to complain about.

There is also less of an angle to the drive shaft- the replacement is parallel to the battery in comparison.

OK, Ryobi Fans, I have the last episode of my recall drama. If'n you remember, I sent one in only to recieve what appeared to be a new one back but, it ran out. That is, the main spindle wobbled when I put a bit into it. I called Ryobi and they said it needed to go to a repair shop and luckily, there was one in my city. I dropped it off on 11/16 and told them the story but it was never clear if this was going to be warrantied or not.

Good news! I just got back from picking it up today after they called yesterday to let me know it was ready. And it was warrantied so that makes me feel better about everything. They put in a new gearbox and chuck and had to get the parts from Ryobi.

Good luck with yours! I ended up with what looks like a new one! But I am keeping the repair paperwork cuz you just never know...

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up from everyone on the drill recall, just talked to Ryobi and mine is scheduled for pickup on Dec. 28th. I'll be sure to check the run out when I get it, hopefully that was an isolated incident.

I just got off the phone with Ryobi...I have a pick-up date of Jan 4th for my two drills. Although I'm getting two new drills, this is very devastating...after 10 years together building all sorts of things, it feels like I'm giving up family (family that I actually like, not the ones I don't. lol). Woe is me.

The drills I receive as replacements better be new and have no issues, or I'm going to be really PO'd. My two drills have their fair share of battle scars, but they work perfectly, and I expect the "new" drills to do the same. I guess I'll find out come January.

My replacement drills (P204) just arrived. They appear to be brand new, not refurbished. The battery wells don't show any evidence of prior use. I also checked them for runout with a long bit, and they're true. The 20 day turn around time could have been better, but I really can't complain since I got new drills out of the deal.

My first impressions are mixed. They seem like nice drills, and I do like the rubberized grip. The bit holder doesn't have the same amount of retention as the older ones did, but I rarely use that anyway. I think my biggest gripe is the chuck. On the old ones, you could grab both parts of the chuck and really crank down on it if need be, but you can't do that with this one. Hopefully, that doesn't end up being an issue.

Hello All. I am a new user to this site. I have been shopping Home Depot for years! I saw this posting on the recall of the HP 1802M and scheduled my replacement today. It will be picked up on the 16th of Feb. I've always had a cordless to supplement my corded B & D hammer drill. It will be missed for the interim! I too purchased the combo in 2002, but only have the light and drill. The cordless saw combo sounded nice vs. always lugging out the corded circular saw or using the hand saw.

Received my replacement yesterday. It looks brand new. I haven't tried it yet but was done quickly and easily.

Hey NONTYPICAL, I work for The Home Depot out of Chicago.
The recall is for the drill only. If you call Ryobi, they will arrange to pick up your drill.

Ryobi Customer Service: 800-597-9624

They will then send you a new model P204 as a replacement. Please see my posts #s 14 and 20. There is no cost to you. Your current batteries and charger are not included, and will work with the new drill.

I hope this helps,
HDNewf

Just joined the forum today. I was looking online for a replacement for my HP1802M, and I found this forum about the recall. I called Ryobi, and they are picking up my drill on 12/6. I will follow up when I get the replacement.

Thanks for the information about the recall.

Thank you GJ for the forum - it's the first link that a search engine found when I was seeking how to repair my dead drill!

I called the recall line on Monday, Purolator picked up my dead drill five hours later. Wednesday afternoon, I got my new drill. Complete turnaround approximately 50 hours. Great service! Total outlay of my time - 8 minutes, including the chat with the courier driver whom I know through a volunteer organization.

Guess they got caught up.

Now, if they would only recall their lame batteries. I used my newest ones after charging on Sunday and they were totally dead by Wednesday.

This is a pretty old thread but I just found one of these drills so I called the number and arranged a fedex pickup this week. They said on the phone the replacement should come in around 14 days.

My new drill came in yesterday so it was 9 days total.
It seems like a pretty decent drill. It almost but doesn't quite fit in the molded carrying case for the original drill. My batteries are shot so I didn't get to play around with it much.

Buy one of the new lithium batteries. It will be worth the trouble.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I'm not sure the original chargers supported Li-ion. The NiCad batteries are $70 for a two pack at Home Depot, almost as much as a new drill.
