I saw this Ryobi table saw by the curb of my neighbors house so I asked him if I could have it to use the base for my old drill press. He said sure so I dragged it over to my driveway to pull the saw off and throw it out. Before doing that I wondered why it was broken since I didn't ask. So I plugged it in and it works. Problem is after about 10-15 seconds it shuts off. I plugged it in to the outlet right by the fuse panel and it still blows the 20 amp breaker.

Guess I know why he was throwing it out. I don't care, I just want the base it's on, but can this be fixed? The saw looks nice and the bearings are solid.

I don't know much about electric motors but it would be a shame if it can be fixed.

Thanks guys.

trace the wire from the plug to the switch, and look inside where the start switch is you could have something simple or it could be a burnt up motor also see if the motor shaft will turn..don't throw it away without looking you may have a good saw, I'd take it off your hands if I were close, I love to try to fix things people throw out.

Yeah I looked the cord over and the blade spins freely and there is no wobble in the blade indicating loose bearings. Everything looks tip top.

Weird.

I believe that is a $200-$300 saw. Have you tried blowing out the motor with compressed air, checked the motor brushes , and checked inside the start switch box(inside the saw) to see if it is full of saw dust? Thats all it takes. Of course, you might ask your neighbor...

I have that saw. It's more than adequate. Don't toss it unless (a) you have a better one or (b) you know you will NEVER need one. I'm sure the fix is not too tough, but he's right, they sell for 200 all day, every day. So don't go to great lengths.

I had the same thing happen with a Ryobi drum sander, took it to the shop for an estimate. Ended up being a bad Rectifier, $12.00 latter been working like a champ. Might check that if it has one.

Probably an easy fix, but Ryobi is not my choice for contractor grade

tools. I think the best you could hope for is that:

Most mom-n-pop hardware stores that stock your brand of tool will usually

be the place to take it when there is a glitch. If they don't have a repair

department, they will almost allways have some type of a repair shop

on the quetee for the convience of their customers. I would go that

route first, rather than blindly tearing into it, especially if you are not all

that mechanically/electrically inclined. (Not trying to be condencending,

but somewhere is a person who does this for a living, and can be relied

on to dis and re in their sleep !) I'm not saying give up on it just yet...

I think you better ask the neighbor if he let the magic smoke out of the motor or switch.

I full agree with zeke..your neighbor is the only one who can answer
this question??? ask him what type of wood did he used???

I used the aeg macine made in germany from 1982 to 2011 for boats building
and without any problem I only changed the on/off switch...and the blade
