Hi all,

A long time GJ member, Larry Randall (OldToolMan) died unexpectedly Thursday. Larry was great fun and could talk tools, cars and motorcycles for hours.

Think good thoughts for his wife of 52 years, Peggy.

I traded with Larry. Great guy that was easy to deal with. Sad to see a good member like that leave. I'm sure he will be missed by friends and family!

My son turned 16 last year and I wanted to give him some good ol American steel for Christmas. I got a sweet deal on an old set of Barcolo combo wrenches in the original roll that dated to at least the 60's.....but the set was missing the 9/16" and 5/8". I figured I would fill in with a couple of Craftsman RP's because what are the odds of finding original fill ins from such an obscure brand.

In Nov, I put an ad in the classifieds here on GJ looking for them............within 20 minutes Larry messaged me and sent me his number. I called and not only did he have the EXACT wrenches I was looking for, but, I found myself talking to a guy that I had never met for WELL over an hour. We talked like we were long time neighbors or old friends.

Larry sent the wrenches the next week and my son got a Christmas gift that he can actually use and will last a lifetime.

Thanks, Larry.....you were truly a man among men!

I'm curious. Did Larry have the vintage tool booth at the Denio flea market is Sacramento??

Rest in peace Larry and my condolences to the family.

I bought some things off of him. He was a pleasure to deal with over pm, a stand up guy. He always had all sorts of obscure stuff too, I had been waning to buy some more things off of him too. Condolences to his family.

Don't think I ever dealt with him, but sounds like a wonderful guy.

Maybe we could have some sort of sticky for deceased regular members. It was probably 3-4 months before I realized that someone (Mr. hole-shot maybe) that was a frequent contributor here had passed away. Just a thought.

I did not know Larry.
May the family find peace.
Deepest sympathy.

The description given below by a coffee house he frequented really sums up the type of man he was.

Apple Blossom Coffee House
July 25

It is with tears that we say goodbye to our friend Larry Randall who passed into heaven yesterday. Larry came to the coffee house everyday unless he was out of town. It was for Larry that we developed our gluten free scone and bought rice milk by the case. When our espresso machine developed a crack, Larry brought his welder and helped us fix it. Fixing everything broken was his joy. He bought and sold tools--only American-made because they were the best. He will be remembered as a wonderful, giving, funny, gentle man who always had a smile to share with friends and travelers. Larry will never be forgotten....
