I hadn't thought of this before.

When I do an LS engine swap, my car will be far and away majority metric.

The SAE hold-out parts are on the engine. Wheelstuds and all body bolts are metric.

Those answers vary depending on where in the world you are (except the aircraft)

oh and .223 != 5.56, and 7.62 != .308. there is differences.

If I had the choice I would use metric for everything. Just makes life easier. But hey I'm no engineer. I just repair the engineers flaws.

All my machine equipment is older US made (mills, lathes, etc.) and any time I'm working on those, it's all SAE. US Made cars/trucks are 90% metric with a little SAE thrown in there just to make sure you're still awake. Motorcycles, I'm into Japanese motorcycles because they're just plain the most reliable bikes in the world (I'd rather ride than wrench), and they're 100% metric with some very rare exceptions.

I got ya...and I just can't wait for all that to change to metric; can't happen soon enough if you ask me. But it will take a LONG time for that to change (and you can bet your **** at some point it will change, just may not happen in our lifetimes).

Oh and technically speaking the 5.56 and 7.62 NATO rounds are NOT .223 & .308. In both cases, the metric military cartridge came first (even though both were invented right here in the good ole U.S. of A.) and the SAE designation civilian sporting cartridges came second. There ARE differences, but most of the differences are not something you can see. Regardless SAAMI will advise against firing the NATO rounds in the .223 & .308 chambers, but they're okay with it going the other way around.

The .223 & .308 rounds have very hard set pressure standards, where the NATO rounds pressures can vary from lot to lot and still be in compliance with the NATO "spec".
