Water not dispensing but ice is still being made.
Current Fridge: Samsung (RX26XAERS) French Door w Freezer on bottom
Ice maker in the top and dispenses through the door ice and water.

Ice would continue to be made and my water dispenser would not dispense anything for the past 2 weeks. I keep my fridge pretty cold, usually 34-36 degrees. So I followed along with a few different Fix-Its that I found while using google, I pulled the fridge out to hear if the inlet water valve was making any noise, and it was. New filter. Pulled the line from the water valve to the front door spigot, and gave it a blow and could hear air come out front. So I knew all my components were good now. Come to find out my water reservoir is located inside of my fridge and it was frozen. I have had pools of water that turned to ice in the bottom over the past year or so a couple of times. Not really sure how it actually leaked out, but we took a hair dryer to the reservoir and made everything work again. No need to call a service repairman!

Didn't think I had to defrost one of these newer refrigerators!

I figured I should include the model number so someone else searching for the fix, they may find it.

We have a 6 yr old LG bought from Home Depot. It stopped running and we lost a lot of frozen food. Found out LG has nobody in our area who services their refrigerators. Called every company around who might work on them but most said they don't service LG, Samsung, Bosh or any other foreign brands because they can't get parts.

Suggest anyone looking at a new appliance to make sure qualified service is available in your area before buying. Home Depot continues to sell LG fully knowing they do not have anyone near us to service what they sell.

A simple air leak through the magnetic door seal can make things freeze up. Check all around the doors to see if they are leaking cold air. The hinge side could be too tight and the opening side then could be too loose. If the Fridge runs for a long time .. that is also a sign of an air leak.

Congrats on the fix. I hate my samsung fridge. Do you want to come and figure mine out? I bought the first 4 door samsung fridge when they came out near 2013. The first time I replaced the water filter, everything turned to ****. They tried adding more sealant between the ice maker and the fridge section, completely replaced the icemaker, the mainboard, the filter reservoir, tubing, and housing and the damn thing still *****. It does make ice ok, other than taking way to long to start dispensing ice after you push the button.

The biggest problem with it is the water dispenser. We don't really use it, but it is ridiculously slow. They say to drain 3 gallons of water through it when you change the filter. To do that takes over an hour, lol.

A lot of refigs now have a coil of tubing instead of a tank for the cold water. Not as likely to freeze and bust but will still freeze if refig is too cold. Recommended to keep it 38-42 is the preferred setting for home use. Commercial refigs have such a large cooling system that it will be back at 38 withing 5 minutes of closing the door. Home units may take an hour or more to get back to 38 after opening.

I work with many of the domestic manufactures, Whirlpool, GE, Electrolux. They don't have as many bells and whistles as the LG's and Samsungs, but they are more reliable. It's known that Samsung and LG have high failure rates. My sister had a Samsung French door fridge and her ice maker valve stuck on overnight and flooded her main floor and basement. All said and done there was close to 50K in water damage. Hardwood floor, cabinets, carpet, ceiling, walls and carpet in the basement all had to be torn out to fix the water damage.

We had the freeze issue at the shore --- The milk storage is on the door with a roll top cover. The temp inside this compartment is controlled with a dial that opens and closes a hole allowing air to flow from the freezer into this space. If we had the hole open all the way and forgot to close the roll top -- the items at the very back of the bottom shelf would freeze by the next weekend .. guess where the tank was?

All the crispers work the same way -- cold air from the freezer.

We avoid this problem by never buying anything with ice/water in the door. Takes up too much space IMHO. And more s**t to go wrong.

I bet you have a partially frozen reservoir. I noticed mine slowly getting slower this past 6-8 months.

After huge problems with our ge fridge we decided wgainst no water or ice dispenser. Just a tub of ice in the fridge. Less to go wrong in my opinion.

This will be something I may have to consider. I want to see how much water/ice collects under those crisper drawers. If its still collecting at the same rate, sounds like I will be ding the same thing. Got any links to your parts you purchased? Thanks for the info!

My Samsung with a bottom freezer just recently quit making ice. You can still hear the ice maker flip over the tray but it doesn't fill it. Maybe I have a similar issue. I would like to figure it out.

I haven't had many issues with mine in 7 years but my sister bought one at about the same time I did and hated it. Said she had to repair it too often. Hopefully I get a few more years out of mine.

I did this repair on our Samsung fridge. No need for a new sensor unless yours is broken. I wish I had pics but there was a service bulletin where you basically relocated the sensor and lengthen the metal defrost tab so it goes in to the drain line. The sensor relocation keeps the coil from freezing up by making the defrost come on earlier and the longer tab defrosts the drain.

I did not buy the new defrost tab from Samsung, just make one out of thin metal with some tin snips and a few minutes of your time. I cut up a soda can and used the aluminum from that to make the longer tab. Wrap one end around the defrost element and stick the other in the drain line about a 1/4" or so.

My drain line was freezing up and causing the water under the drawers. I did this fix about three years ago and it's been working great. I had to defrost the line with a blow dryer to get things opened up.

As much as ai like my Samsung electronics, their major appliances ****. Ask me about Samsung stoves. The appliance reviews are bad. Unlike other brands, they do not sell the little rubber bumpers that are under the stove burner grates. They told me to buy a new grate for $60. I fudged it with anothet brand. The Samsung logo letters fell of the back splash. The heavy metal knobs have plastic stems that break and can be replaced for only $45 a knob A rebuild with copper pipe and JB Weld got around that one. I read a recent article by repair man, discussing all the fridges. Nothing too great out there. The old ones ran forever. I need a new fridge; the GE has had it. The hardware was always junk and is all patched. I am leaning toward Kitchen Aid/ Whirlpool. I am on my second washer and dryer set. Both lasted many years.

My Samsung did the same thing, could hear the ice maker flip but wasn't making ice. Was like that for about 4 months, then we lost power for about an hour and when it came back on the fridge had some error message where the temp is usually displayed. The manual explained how to clear the error message and after I did that the ice maker has been working ever since.

In November, I purchased the dark stainless Samsung kitchen set. The drain hose for the dishwasher was too short and required me to buy a new drain tube, hose clamps and a coupler, but then I had 4' of extra drain hose under my sink. The stove would click multiple times every time the fan relays engaged. The clicking was loud and annoying. I had the stove replaced and the second one was worse. The pre heat also sucked. You set it for 350*, it would let you know it's up to temp, but another thermometer registered only 250*. We were trying to understand why cooking at 350* for 20 minutes would leave the meal not fully cooked. It took the another 10-15 minutes for the stove to get from 250-350, so the actual 350 cook time was only about 5-10 minutes!!! Both stoves worked the same.

When they came to repair the first stove, the technician heard a loud pop from the fridge. He said there was a recall on that and he could fix it right there. Took the back off the inside of the fridge and replaced the heating element that keeps things from freezing up. That didn't fix the issue with the popping fridge.

I bought all of my appliances at Lowes and they happily replaced all of it. We replaced it all with LG regular stainless. The fridge does make some whining noises, but I can't keep fighting these battles. Life's too short

Also, I spoke to a Sears rep that said the high end Kenmore and Whirlpool products are now made by LG and just rebadged. Not sure if that's true, but he said that even Maytag isn't what it used to be.

All Kenmore is rebadged. Sears does not make anything; they buy. You used to be able to tell from whom, by the model number that was ***.0000000. The first three digits were the vendor. Whirlpool was their fridge maker for years. As they are in so much trouble now , I can believe they would go anywhere to save a buck.

I remember hearing that the Kenmore's were Whirlpools.

I've had GE without issue, and also Frigidaire without issue.

I'm currently finding that the Frigidaire Gallery series is your best bang for the buck for a "nice" set that isn't basic but isn't high end.

I'm an ice user, so ice in the door is important to me. I don't like having to bend down to get to the freezer, so I'm a fan of the tried-and-true side by side design instead of the french door design. I never liked the door ice design of the french door machines anyway - something about having ice inside the non-freezer side just doesn't "work" for me in my mind.

I did not like the huge delay there was in the Kenmore ice - you had a good 4 second delay before the ice machine did ANYTHING, it was a strange setup.

My 15 year old Kenmore Elite appliances (rebadged Whirlpool) were/are great with never an issue. I only replaced them because the dishwasher broke and I couldn't buy another in the cream color. The fridge is outside now as a secondary unit, and I donated the old stove and microwave. Everything worked perfect, and was quiet when in use.

The new LG product is nice, but the fridge makes some weird sounds and the microwave blew up last week. The magnetron fried. It's under warranty, but having issues with new appliances is annoying when the 15 year old stuff still works flawlessly.
