That kiln has to be filling up by now , Riv.
Lots of room around here(not).

I did start insulating it. Need to finish, then put up the vapor barrier.

Also bought the metal roof panels. Need those up so I can complete the solar panel install.

Ordered up some brake metal to flash the loading door. Need that on so I can start siding.

But, first I need to mill some more cedar into siding boards. I’ll need to move some logs around to get to another cedar log.

Then there will be a little more door hardware/ threshold and weatherstripping to do.

Still need to figure out a venting detail, and then find and install the black curtain.

Maybe after that, I’ll get my first load in😧

Caught a long, skinny one today.

Actually caught a couple. Might have to switch back to a treble hook for logging.

A little too cold and wet and yucky out today to be any fun playing outside.

Came into the shop for some cleaning and maintenance.

Started cleaning up this old maple slab.

My dad bought this as countertops back in ‘78ish.

I turned it into a table, and raised my kids eating around it.

Then it was my workbench for a number of years. Then it got stuck leaning up in a corner for a bit.

In its new life is going to help me manage slabs off the mill. I’ll be getting it closer to the same height as my infeed table on the planer.

As it’s on a Rubbermaid service cart, I can roll it out to the sheds/ kiln then straight into the planner.

It’s all sanded, scraped, wiped, and waxed. Ready for more years of service.

Called it a snow day due to cold, wind, and snow.

Too dangerous to work😬

Decided that pulling and cutting logs would be much safer.

While I was cutting it to length, I noticed the top part had significant ring shake. Called my neighbor to come cut it for firewood.

Easiest splitting log I’ve ever chopped!

So, I’ve been wrestling with the venting on the kiln since the start.

The plan shows 4 vents up high, and 4 down low.
I was wanting something that opened and closed quickly and easily.

I looked at a lot of HVAC type vents, but either they were a pain to open/close, didn’t have dampers at all, or were way to expensive. (X8)

I was looking at the dust collection blast gates at my friends shop, and it all made sense.

I bought 8 6” plastic gates for about $50.

Just drill some holes and Sika them in, and done!

Easy to open, easy to close.

This will give me approximately 225 sq inches of vent.

Hope it isn’t a monsoon tomorrow, so I can start drilling holes.

Riv, I gave away a dozen 4" blast gates when I moved from WA back to AZ. They should work well for your application- you can always add screens if you get vermin issues.
Headed to Ace for some SS screen. No little critterz allowed!

The monsoon is coming and going.

A little too blustery for me. I’m liking it in the shop with my coffee close at hand.

Decided to cut up the cheap Lowes metal roof panels with my Milwaukee metal cutting saw.

With a new blade, it makes nice enough cuts that they don’t need any further attention.

I need to get a measurement on screw location, then I’ll pre drill them all in a stack.

Metal roofing is installed. Still need the ridge done, but I ran out of screws😕

Turned my attention to the flashing on the loading door.

Had a near miss when the driver slipped off the screw. Really happy it missed my thumb.
Never want to do that again!

And yes, at home I do things that I kick people off job sites for doing😱 (ladder)

We’ve been having some of the year’s highest tides this week.
First pic is today, 2nd pic is this years lowest tide. A difference of over 14 feet.

In the 3rd pic, you can see a yellow line on the concrete. It marks last years King tide.

We beat it by about 6” this year.

Water came up within 18” of the top of the seawall.
