Spent yesterday afternoon picking up the one-man limbs from a Walnut tree.

Hoping to have a flatbed trailer and a forklift to get the bigger stuff this weekend.

The main trunk was at 38” dia., so the owner took it to a bigger mill.

I got a new belts, guides, and bearings kit from Woodland Mills this last week, but life and weather haven’t allowed me to get started on it.

I’m having blade tracking issues.

I know the belts are due, but need time to assess the bearings and wheel alignment.

We went from days of high winds, to single digit temps, to snow, and a week of rain in the forecast.

Nothing to do except drink coffee by the fire.

I’m surprised it’s killed the bearings already Riv. What’s that all about and what kind of bearings are they?
When the belts wear they don’t track, and can throw blades. I lost a blade, and it jammed in hard behind the wheel.

I just want to check everything, so I know it’s right.

Save that blade if you like the texture.
Wouldn’t ya know it, I got about 2/3rds done with my cut list and hit something embedded.

Had to finish with a fresh blade.

I guess the backside won’t have the same texture 😜

Ugh
Do you ever come across any live worms when you are slicing those logs?
i do.

This 8’ section has been out of the water for weeks, and everything is dead.

I have another 24’ that is still in the water, and it’s full of live clams. It’s tied off to my seawall

Depending on the tide, it’s on the beach or floating.,

Slow day at work, so I went home for lunch.

Got a call from a guy looking for a Cedar live edge shelf.

Cleared off the slab flattening table, and fired up the ol planer.

Another happy customer out the door!

Never did make it back into work 👍

Today’s haul.

Going to leave it on the beach until I can cut into it.

Likely too far gone, but you never know without letting the chainsaw taste it.

Also spent some time burning scraps.

Is that paint or rust patina on that stove?

Looks nice...

I got tired of trying to get the dust collection to an adequate level of performance, so I’m moving the whole operation outside.

Set up another Unistrut framework on the mill this time.

This will make it more weather dependent, but will keep the dust outside.

The frame will just clamp on, then hang on the fence when not being used.

The trolly will get stored in the garage.

Fattened and planed a future table base today.

They are still a tad high in moisture content, (13%) but dry enough to start getting them flat and equal thickness.

Removing material off each side should help getting the last bit of moisture out

I also picked this up today from HF.

Surface Conditioning Tool.

I will probably use it on metal, but I’m thinking it’ll make quick work of cleaning up live edge stuff. Especially with the nylon abrasive wire wheel I ordered off the big A store.

I even saved $15 buying it today. Big thanks to all the dead Presidents😜

That’s the hope.

The wheels that come with it are too stiff to do contour work. The bristles should be able to work around bumps and knots

Give it a go.

A while back I distressed some pine barn doors using various wire brushes and a drill powered stripping wheel.

Got a minute to cut some lathe turning blanks.

Apple is 16” x 4”

Walnut is 10” x 4”

Then I went and split some Cedar with the froe.

Not sure what it may become, but I kinda like em.

Paint the ends with paraffin, bury them in dry sawdust and they'll be ready to use by this time next year.
I spent some money on Anchorseal for the ends.

Actually going to not start the drying, as some turners prefer green material.

Especially with the Apple. Turns so smoothly when green. Gets quite hard as it dries.

Ordered a couple hundred stickers for the wood expo next month. Who doesn’t like free stickers?
