Nice truck!
Thanks,

I like it. At least I do when it’s behaving.

Gave it it’s own thread:

I have a plant identification app on my phone called Picture This.

It isn’t very good.

Pics of the same tree came up with-

White Pine
Douglas Fir
Persian Silk
Black Cherry

I think they need a little more R&D

Try PlantNet . Never tried it on tree bark, but 90% on plants based on leaves and flowers.

No luck with PlantNet either.

Gave me about 7 different Oak trees.

Oh well, maybe someday they’ll figure it out.

My firewood burning neighbor called this afternoon, said he had a log on his beach that was “Too nice to burn”.

He was right.

A nice 12’ Douglas Fir.

Brought it home and cut it up!

I was kinda disappointed in that last log that slid off the truck. Bugs and rot under the bark. Wasted a bunch off each side and only managed a 12x12 cant and a few 5/4 slabs with some defects.

Then I reminded myself a free 12x12 is a good thing.
Might cut it down some more, to dry faster and be more manageable.

Using a cottonwood for a prototype/mock-up of a shave horse/draw horse.

I don’t want to use a good log until I know what I’m doing.

Need to figure out the pivot arm size and location, the dumb head shape, the foot peddle, and how it all works together

That’s pretty slick!
Thanks Jay.

Decided to get a start on the kiln siding today.

Built up a corner, then started Cutt’n and Fitt’n.

There is a lap joint between the corner and the boards that gets cut after they’re cut to length.

Kinda slows things down a bit.

Nailing them on with 2” pins, then I’ll complete it with SS trim head screws.

The Super Bowl is on. Y’all know where I’ll be.

Fun dragging all the toys out, and having an afternoon to get something ✔️ done!

Swing by my place in the White Mountains so you can try out some Alligator Juniper.
Best do it on the way back from Jim's and Shorty's ,though ; at 6500' elevation the snow is kind of deep up there right now. ;)
