Thinking it could use a bit more horsepower though.

How big is the Johnson (which looks good!)?

I have an older Tracker V16 utility, looks like similar layout. Mine has a 9.9 four stroke Tracker (Merc), which is ok but really not enough.

It is amazing sometime though what a small skiff will tow.

Got the cedar home!

“How big is the Johnson (which looks good!)?” Not a question I wood have asked?
We are sitting in snow and cold so not much happening at our mill right now. We did cut up a bunch of quarter sawn ash for projects next year.

I just remembered that I forgot (is that redundant?) to ask about the walnut bits you sawed in October. Lovely grain pattern but they're kind of small, no? Did they warp like crazy when dried?

Madrone is very fine-grained, hard, expensive and burns easily when milling.
Also prone to warping when drying. A hand-rubbed oil finish buffs out beautifully.
Darkens to a reddish hue over time.
That's all I got.
Ya, it’s the “warping when drying” thing that bugs me

I can confirm that. I tried some, and it tossed off the cinder blocks I tried to use to weigh it down. Here is a piece I cut to use as a hand saw rehandle.

Here is a longer shot of a brother piece, caption said.

Slighter wider view of the madrone, showing the big hump in the middle

When I read it waors, I thought all wood warps when it dries.

That's extreme!
