Here is a few boards after a few passes through the planer

If I were to do it again, I would cut a bit thicker, and plane it down some. It’s really beautiful when used. Here is where that first picture ended up.

I’m cutting it 2-1/4” thick, hoping that gives me plenty to plane.

You guys know that a planer sort of ***** for cupped/twisted boards, right?

The rollers push it flat, so you get a thinner, smoother cupped board after. You need a jointer

Yes.

Only boards that are flattened go through the planer

But I don’t know anyone with a 20” jointer, so I built a 12’ x 4’ router sled.

Or a sled.

Or if the roller tension on the planer is low enough, and the wood thick enough, you can do some jointing, but not enough.

Buddy of mine has the XY gantry, is that what you mean? Wanna put one together soon for a few slabs. Never knew LV called theirs a sled

Riv, when I lived on the Puget Sound we had a 100+ft tall Sequoia on our property, it was over six feet in diameter at the base. Beautiful wood!
We took down 7, all about 5’ diameter.

Had to let the big butts go to someone else. My mill has a 26” dia. Max.

Sequoias aren’t native here, but the love it here.
They grow like weeds. Most have 1/2” growth rings, which adds an inch per year in diameter.

Another interesting thing is that they won’t reproduce here. (So I hear) nobody seems to know why.

This is the Himalayan Cedar we took down awhile ago. It’s been through the mill, and the kiln, and the flattening table, and the planer.

Just need to edge them, then they’re ready to use.

Was out yesterday evening prepping the log for the haul home.

I didn’t know if “My little Johnson” was big enough to pull it. Log weight calculator says it’s right at 8,000 lbs.

I was on the water before first light in order to catch the right current. No way it would have pulled it against a current.

Made it home without removing the transom 😜

Brought home a short, ugly old log yesterday.

Cut into it today.

I was wondering if it was going to be worth the effort.

It was.
