I'm at the point where I've lost enough hearing that reducing noise levels in the shop is a priority. And I got a good deal on it.
You would probably be better off with a cyclone system that empties into a 55 gal drum , or you'd be emptying the Gyro after two boards.

Yeah, the cyclone before the DC is a big help when running the planer. I've filled my DC after a dozen boards, and mine is old enough to be a PITA to empty. When I do my next big project, a trash can sized cyclone will be implemented.

And if you don't realize its full, you get chips in the system, which is just like having no DC.

I had a clearvuecyclones system in my WA shop with a 55 gal barrel. I could plane almost all day before needing to empty the barrel.

I’m not sure what DC I’ll end up with yet. I don’t have the luxury of dedicating that much space.

Need to keep it mobile, like everything in my shop.

For now, I’m just happily cleaning “that stuff” off the shiny cast iron.

Several years back I decided to have kind of a 'guys' night' in my shop. Invited some of the guys I got to know from jobs, guys I had done work for, couple of neighbors. BYOB, I supplied snacks. I think 8 guys showed up. One guy brought a friend. About an hour in I turn and see the 'friend' set his beer can on the outfeed table of my 20" planer. Without hesitation, I said " Get that ******* beer can off my planer". The guy says, "It's not hurting anything." I grabbed the can, wiped off the wet ring and told him it was time for him to leave. The guy who brought him jumped up, apologized for him and escorted his buddy out. Luckily, I had recently stripped and waxed all my machine tables.

Similar story. My senior year of HS I had a blow out party in my dad’s shop. Probably 40+ people.

My dads unisaw became the keg table.

I thought we cleaned up, but my dad found the rust rings from the keg, cups, and cans.

He was less than happy.

Nails don’t hold as well in the gooey mud.

I have chains anchored, and I zip tie the bags to the chains.

They’re out of the water for 2-4 hours per day.

Then 8-10 feet under at high tide.

Buy a set of replacement bags; the HF bags were pretty coarse and didn’t capture the really fine stuff. Also consider a cyclone in front of it to capture the bulk of the shavings in an easy to empty trash can.
Now get to planing…

Sounds about right.

Still need to wire in a new circuit, but I can’t even get to the panel right now.

Did you hook the plugs together to make the internal connections? Buddy taught me that as a sanity check some years ago on low voltage stuff.

Yes! I just figured that out. Don’t know how many cord ends I’ve installed, but I just figured that out last night

American Filter Fabrics is a possible source of custom bags for dust collectors. A larger bag allows for more airflow thru the bag as there is more surface area. I thought about getting one for my collector but I don't use it enough to justify the cost for a 100 cfm machine.
