Got a start on little momma’s cedar wall.

Getting the top one scribed in was the fun part.

Do your neighbors think you are crazy fishing for logs or do they get it? I think it is awesome and enjoy following along. For us urban/suburban dwellers. I guess the equivalent is road treasure.

Looks good, Riv.
(… what’s with the missing drywall?)
That little wall was flat stud framed. They picked a nasty stud for the middle of it.

Had about 1/2”+ bow in it. Made my flat boards rock. With the drywall gone in that area, the boards stack nicely.

Got a few more up this afternoon, including one of three shelves.

There are a number of them that want to see my finds. A few more that come out and watch/take pics.

Once I show them the material, they get it.

Aquatic dumpster diving.
Ran the skiff out to intercept a floater tonight.

Couldn’t really see what it was in the glaring setting Sun.

Turns out it was a metal pontoon. 2’ dia. By about 20’. Would have been fun to grab, but I don’t have the room for it. Probably going to be somebody looking for it anyway.

Sometimes the sunrise dictates when you work, sometimes it’s just the F’n alarm.

Around here, it’s the tide.
Pulled in another log from the seawall, after it was floating. Much easier to move when they’re floating.

Pulled it around to the mill, and winched it up into position.

This is a large log for me. Just about capacity for the mill, and my ability to maneuver it into position.

Did I mention it stinks? Oh my gawd, it stinks.

Pressure washing 1st thing tomorrow 🤢

What happens on the left end?
That’s the shower wall. I angled the end, due to tight quarters. That way I maintained walkway clearance.

I just matched the angle of the wall with the boards.

I’ll fabricate some trim board that covers the end grain.

What's your slab thickness going to be on this one, Riv? Flat or quartersawn?
Cutting everything at 1-5/8” thick.

The Holy wood will be slabs, the rest is going to be 2x4s for my kiln.

That’s if, I quit hitting my log stops. Dang, I hate that sound 😱

Looks like a minor redesign with replaceable hardwood inserts might be a good idea.

Does it completely wipe out the blade when you hit one?
Hmm. I’m liking the idea of wood stops. I have some ironwood/Ipe that would work perfectly.

The blades are ready for resharpening pile once they’ve tasted metal.

I will say, the blades I just had resharpened rival the factory blades.

I like the insect holes , spalting, stains etc much better than perfect clear lumber, those are fantastic looking slabs. If you go down the same rabbit hole as me there will be many gallons of epoxy in your future.
We cut up 3 ash trees yesterday that were killed by the emerald ash borer. Got a bunch of 14” wide live edge boards

I’ve always liked a little more character in wood.
Some clear material looks like P-lam😱

But it all depends on the project. I guess there’s room for all kinds.

Epoxy may be the go-to product for filling the bigger voids, but don’t expect any videos of me pouring river tables😕

As always, post up some pics of your fresh cut slabs!

Have you finished your new outbuilding to store all this new found lumber while it’s drying yet? :lol_hitti
You must have quite the stack now. Some really nice pieces too.

Mentioned awhile back I had my septic tank replaced. Found out about 2/3rds of the drain field is under pavement.

Trying to decide whether I relocate the drain field, or the pavement.

Need to put on my civil engineer hat, and come up with a plan that addresses the new shop, the septic system, power and water line locations, and driveway/drainage and kiln location.

All while keeping the wife happy🤪

Driveway/tank removal is putting a huge dent in my shop budget

At the rate he’s accumulating inventory, Riv’s gonna be the next GJ millionaire; our first Logging and Timber Baron!
Lined up a nice load of Cedar and Alder, but the flatbed seems to have lost it’s get up and go.

Still runs, just maybe on an odd number of cylinders.

Feels like $$$ flying out my ****🙄
