Saylor beall 705 clone rebuild question

Just acquired a new compressor which as far as I can tell has a 705 clone pump on it. Everything seems to be in good shape and the calculated cfm is right where it should be from the advertised values.

However I was wondering if the rebuild kits for them all are universal? Will the Saylor Beall 705 kits on eBay or anywhere else fit these clone pumps as well? I wouldn't mind at least having a kit on hand or likely going through it anyways as I use my compressor quite a bit.

Compressor is an 80gallon 5hp with the 705 clone pump, originally purchased from princess auto. Previous owner must have replaced the motor with a Baldor at some point. Paid $300 Canadian for it and spent another $200 on a new pressure switch/wiring/fittings/oil change and a 30a breaker.

I have one myself that I had got a couple months ago and I’ve not really done much searching around to see what all if any parts will interchange with the original 705. I also have a original 705 and a 707. My clone also does what it’s supposed to do and one thing that I have noticed between the 705 and clone is that the clone is allot quieter than the original

I haven't run mine enough yet but instantly in love with how quiet it is. Seems to be a solid design

Look for a rebuild kit for a Sanborn SC23 or a LaPlante LP205 (which is what it is) and the parts will fit.

I think the head and base gasket is the only parts that are the same for 705 and a clone.

I have a new crank, some new bearing and wrist pins if interested.

Thanks I will let you know if/when I do overhaul it if I need any of those parts

Lol I never knew it was a thing either. Compressor is from 2004 and only had a princess auto item # on it that is discontinued and only led me to an archive of their flyer in 2006.
That was enough for specs but I wanted to know if parts were still available but trying to find that without a model # is pretty hard. Eventually I stumbled across an Eaton pump which looks identical as well and then while looking for parts for it discovered the many Saylor Beall clones & threads about them!
Now that I know parts are available I am even more stoked

I once read saylor beall pumps were the most cloned pumps ever.
Or something like that.

@Jswain I’d inspect the rod bearings.Romove inspection plate.Wiggle fly wheel back n forth to see/hear any slop.
Watch rod up in piston for slop.If there’s slop the rod bearing and or wrist pin is worn.
Also look at rod at crank for slop. Also remove 2 bolts from bottom of rods to look for burnt/worn bearings.
You can also mic the crank to see if still in tolerance. All very simple tasks.Make sure it’s unplugged.
Or if it has clean oil and sounds good just run it.

There is a good chance I will give it an overhaul in the next few months, but it did have nice clean oil and sounds good. 0-fill CFM & normal cut in to cut out CFM are matching to what the specs claim too so it must be fairly healthy. I'll see how much oil blows by the rings when it's running hard but it ran for about an hour straight the other day blasting some parts and seemed pretty good.

Well I finally removed the inspection plate today as I wanted to change over to some Amsoil for easier starting in the winter and was pleasantly surprised. There was almost no buildup of sludge, the oil was nice and clear and there appeared to be no noticeable play in the rod at the crank or piston end.

Cleaned everything out well cut a new gasket and topped it up with some Amsoil.

Noticed it is leaking a bit of air out of the unloader valve while running, I took it apart and put a new Schraeder valve in it and tried adjusting the elbow out which made no change, might trie going in with it tomorrow.

Seems like it almost may be crankcase venting as it looks like the side the pin comes out to activate the Schraeder valve shares the same body as the crank breather and I don't see a seal on that pin to prevent it but I'll look at it more tomorrow
