School me on blast cabinets

Well I got a 5 gallon sandblaster for free from a forum member. I don't want media flying everywhere, nor do I want the mess in my garage, so I want to turn it into a blast cabinet.

How would I go about making it so all the media collects at the bottom so I can use it again?

Does anyone have some cabinets they built that they'd like to post up? Thanks .

Nice little pressure pot there. Do a google search for homemade/homebuilt sand blasting cabinets. Before i bought mine I was looking into making one. If you wanna lay out a little money upfront TPTOOLS.com sells a kit and plans to build your own out of 2 sheets of ply wood.

HF sells a small blast cabinet, you might look there for soma retro fit ideas.

There's a HF bench top blast cabinet behind my house in the alley. I put it there. POS.

You need room inside for a number of reasons.

I looked at the HF floor model. Then made my own out of plywood, sealed the seams. Went to TP tools for the glass and seals. I put air fittings on it. For suction I just connect the air hoes and use the suction blaster. Put the tube in the bottom and just keep recycling the media. For using the pressure pot I just connect that up to the cabinet instead and use the hose fitting from the pot blaster. Works like a charm...

I plan on making something like this. And it won't be a "benchtop" model. I want to make it as big as I can.

I have the HF floor model and it works ok for most stuff. HOWEVER, I put a 17" wheel in there and it was a pita. The cabinet needs to be about 8"-10" deeper (front to back). Width is fine, could be a few inches taller. So, if you plan on building one, make it bigger than the HF cabinet.

Got a TIP-960 and couldn't be happier with it after I got their ******** to get the blast media to the pick up at the bottom of the chute. I thought I wasted my money before I got the ******** because material flow was hit or miss at best. Humidity here in NC will really affect the flow of your media material. My advice, bigger is better, get a good moister filter and have the correct air capacity compressor (I have a Quincy QT-5) for your gun.

Here is the Cabinet I recently built. Made it out of 4x4's, 2x4's, and a sheet of plywood. Cabinet area is big enough for motorcycle frame, rims, plenty big for anything I have needed to blast. Just make sure to seal it up very well and you should have no problems!
