Anyway - here is the recent progress. We are doing a complete footer and a monolithic pour on top with rebar pinning both together.
The reason for this design is to allow the porch posts to be placed anywhere on the slab, basically not have to make a decision right now for doorways and the 6x6s.

Footer was poured earlier today:

Tomorrow more excavation and the forms for the stamped concrete slab set up for pouring on Monday/Tuesday.
It will be split into 2 pours - the one for the porch itself and then a stepdown to a stamped area in front of the retaining wall..
Here is another ChatGPT rendition on the stamped area around the retaining wall:

Honestly, it was like one sentence. I said, add a screen porch across the entire back with a shed roof.

I had to specify shed roof otherwise it tried to put a gable roof, which, of course would’ve blocked the upstairs windows

Concrete tomorrow! For the first section at least….
Got the conduit run for electrical on the outside wall
Lined the stubs up where the cut lines will be to hopefully minimize chance of cracking…
Wrapped insulation around to also add a cushion. This will be come up in the center of a 2x6 knee wall.

Your AI generated screened porch is very similar to what we have except the lower portion of ours has 1x1 white aluminum every 4 inches. But we are above a walkout basement and did not want to lose the view. You might want to consider a few skylights over the window area as the interior rooms will be dark from the porch roof. I hope you allowed for water drainage when the rains come.

Impressive work and its coming together quickly.

Did you consider paving stones?
I had pavers previously and wanted to do something different. I actually saved my old patio pavers to do an area for a fire pit next to the porch. The stamp Concrete will be easier to keep clean. I had to do a lot of power washing with the pavers, and I was tired of the sand and dirt.

Been a while since I posted. Screen porch is coming along nicely. Beadboard ceiling is almost done. The porch is 36ft , so it is in three 12ft sections. There will be 2 strips front to back covering the two seams - like a lattice piece.
Originally was going to paint it white, but now seeing it up, we are thinking about just sealing it. I think a sealer would keep it light colored (hoping it would tint it a tiny bit - like honey). Any recommendations on what product to use?
Like Minwax Indoor/Outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane or Penofin Transparent Penetrating Oil Finish Stain & Sealer
I am not worried about UV or direct rain obviously, just something that seals it up nice......

I missed your project with the stamped concrete. We replaced all our wood decking with concrete and the stamping would be outstanding. What did they use to seal yours? My wife is asking about possibly sealing ours.

We used EUCLID Chemical "Super Diamond Clear". We did one coat and over the last six months, it definitely "dulled" and I am going to wash it down and do another. Probably should have done 2 coats to begin with - live and learn....
