I may be wrong here, but any drivers handles made out of cellulose acetate will have a odor to them. Or have the potential to. The stinky handle theory is not just limited to cman.

That could be unpleasant if you have a large collection and are working in a tiny workshop with little ventilation :wtf: Hahaha...

Then again some people are more sensitive to smells like that than others. It's funny it reminds me of when I had a job where I was restoring about two thousand palm pilots with several other people. One of the tests to check and see if it was good enough to be reused was to listen for a very high pitched electrical sound coming out of some of them. There were ones that a younger guy could hear but I could not. Likewise, there were some that we both could hear but a woman in her 50's-60's could not hear. It used to piss her off because we told her that over time your hearing degrades and you cannot hear the same frequencies that you could hear when you were younger... funny but true. I remember when I was like 15 years old I could hear a high pitched sound coming from the TV that to me was so loud I could hear it from over 20 feet away and it would annoy me so much that I could not use the TV. My parents however could not hear a thing...

Okay, I know I'm getting off topic...

I think PB has a good selection of screwdrivers. Different handles - something for everybody , and for example 24 different PH drivers with "Swiss Grip" handle. That should be enough :)
Price can´t be the cheapest since they´re made in switzerland with german steel + american plastic. UNLIMITED GUARANTEE too.

Price in the US is not 'the cheapest' or even 'reasonable'. They are the most expensive screwdrivers you can buy I believe. The Euro prices are much much better. I should see if any of the ebay.de sellers will ship across the atlantic.

Aren't PB Swiss the drivers that smell really bad?I seem to remember some one emailing customer service about the smell and PB Swiss replying that it was a known issue.

PB Swiss Grips don't stink. I just wish the color was different. Those handles are hard to get perfectly clean. I wish they'd offer them in black.

Again, in the sense that they're available from Amazon at half the price of S-o and reasonably comparable in price to other premium brands :headscrat ?

Dede - I believe Klauke is part of the Textron group, which is a fairly large and diverse conglomerate. Greenlee is also under their umbrella. My Klauke screwdrivers are German made, they have a great handle and a hex shaped portion up near the handle that I like. I'm in Qatar, and there's a local store that stocks this stuff. I'd post a pic, but I left my camera at work. . .

German made Klauke's, and one Wurth Zebra on the bottom which I really like too. Not sure who make's it, but definitely good quality and a great feel

@DMessin
nice !! The Klauke + Würth share a similar handle design since they´re from the same factory :)

DMessin,

What is your opinion of the Elora and Vessel screwdrivers compared to the Klauke's? How durable are the tips? How durable is the handle material and striking cap in terms of repeated use and exposure to chemicals?

Thanks,

Dave

I'm really not trying to be adversarial, I'm just trying to understand...

I would still like to know what sizes you're looking for?

where do you purchase from? all i've ever seen for phillips and slotted is the 2 sets offered through Amazon.

For a screw that looks like it's going to be a problem to remove and the head is deteriorated or is otherwise in less than good condition, try dipping the end of the screwdriver in a little valve grinding compound. Sounds weird, but the compound goes along way toward stopping the slipping of the driver bit on the screw head. Saved me and a screwdriver bit countless times. And the stuff won't wear down a good screwdriver bit.

Dave -

I recently purchased the Vessels and haven't used them much at all, but they look very well built. The handles are slightly smaller in diameter than the Elora's and have a little bit of texture to them, more than the Elora's. The Elora's plastic is called Quatrolit and is very durable and chemical resistant. They are my favorite hard handles and I have a nut driver set of the same type. They clean up really nice and feel comfortable in the hand. I used electra-clean on one once to remove some goo, and the plastic was not harmed at all.

Tip wise, the Elora and Klauke are very similar, I would rate them the same. Haven't broken one yet. The Vessel seem to have a slightly different phillips tip, but again, I haven't used them much.

hope this helps,
-Dave
