STOP! Do not get rid of any screwdrivers. I have 2 deep drawers. One for flatheads, one for Phillips. That is the extent of my organization. If you need more room, just open drawer #3.

The cheapo socket holders are great for screwdriver and nutdriver organizing. I use the 1/2 in size for clearance on the handles. I roll the box all around the shop and none come loose.

I love this site....magnetic bars for extensions and now socket rails for screwdrivers and nut drivers.

Glad I didn't throw those socket rails away when I went to my Hansen socket trays.

Great idea.

I just drill holes in wood, mount it on the wall, and throw them in there.

I looked for a while for something I liked, but ended up just making something myself.
Nothing fancy but it keeps my drivers handy.

I'd just been thinking today what a space leech the snapon blow moulded packs are, I had been toying with the idea of making my own with half the set turned inwards, I'm convinced I'd free up at least one drawer on that alone.

I am with you. Never understood the mentality behind creating a new thread when an old one could simply be annotated, resulting in consolodated information.

I used a 2 X 2 aluminum angle 6 ft long, with 1/2 holes every 3". I mounted it below the pegboard on the workbench. I does pliers , nut drivers and screwdrivers.

That sounds user friendly. Everything at your finger tips.
Glad this thread popped up again.

I did something similar but put a bar magnet under the socket holder.

I tried the magnetic ones but because my screwdrivers are on the swinging door of the cabinet they would shift and move or fall off.
After a few tries I realized all my screwdrivers had holes so I hung them all on rough galvanized nails with a slight bend

I use both the wall rack and my tool box. My wife and kids are always looking for a screw driver or pliers for some job they're doing. The rack is easy for them to spot and I keep my junk tools there. I don't want them to use or find my SO stuff which I keep in my cabinets.

Piper

I do something pretty similar and for the same reason. But I also keep one "specialty" driver on the pegboard rack. It is a Blum posi drive I use for installing and adjusting Blum european cabinet hinges. I use it at the woodwork bench so I just keep it on the board above. Last weekend I see the wife strolling thorugh the house with it in hand, going to attack some window screens "uh, don't use that one honey", "why not, its just a screwdriver?" I found her kitchen 4 in 1 and told her to use it. I'm still a "jerk".:headscrat

LOL - same kind of stuff at my house. I come home from work, the freezer had iced over, and my wife is using my brand new Klein screwdriver as a chisel/icepick in the freezer.

I got her a stiff plastic spatula, a sponge and a cup of warm water to finish the job, and somehow I'm a jerk too. :lol_hitti

A similar situation happened to me once. I was tempted to take a couple pairs of my wife's sewing scissors out to the garage and just stage them to look like I was using them, in order to prove my point. I am happy to say that instead I sat on my hands and kept my mouth shut and so my marriage is still very much intact. :)

I just keep mine in a shallow drawer of my HF 44. Every once in a while I'll straighten it up and take a quick inventory but that's about it.

As for the wife situation...

I have managed to nip this problem in the bud before it started. I have one of those wives who listens and understands. I have explained the difference between a posi driv screwdriver and a P3 and others...and the different quality of screwdrivers I have and what I spent on them. To my knowledge she doesn't use them much, if at all. Since she has a knowledge of what they are and what they're used for, she's welcome to them at any time.

Additionally, we got her a toolbox and labeled it "kitchen tools". It's got most everything you'd ever want in it to work around the house. It's not cheap junk for the most part, but not Snap On either. Set of Craftsman screwdrivers, slip joint pliers, cutters, adjustable wrench, long nose pliers, vise grips, strap wrench, hex drill bits, cordless screwdriver, hammer, wire strippers, ect...you get the idea. It pretty much have everything she'd ever want to use of mine but can find when she wants and she has ownership.

I'd even go so far as to say I use her tools more often than she uses mine.

Thank you for continuing the thread, so when other people use the search feature, most of what they are looking for can be found in the same thread.

I really like the socket rail idea. I will be using this when I get a bigger box. That is what is so great about this forum, when people show their different ideas.

I made a sheet metal tray that I put in the middle of the drawer. Helps keep everything in place. Then just alternate direction of the drivers. My OCD being fairly strong all the Phillips have to be on the left and flats blades on the right.

I stripped about a 5 gallon bucket of **** off my cart, among them was a collection of drivers, threw them in a box out of the way and can always go retrieve it if needed. I really only had to toss a few as unusable,, the rest just don't need to wade thru.

I tried the Ernst organiser

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/eni-6011m/overview/

It just didn't seem flexible enough for what I wanted. Now the screwdrivers are packed in the drawer so they won't roll around. If needed there is room for more with some re-arranging. The most used tools are at the front. I do mostly motorcycle stuff, the Vessel drivers are JIS.

but if you were proper OCD all the writing on the handles would face the same way and you'd have to check four times that everything was there everytime you opened the drawer

I find keeping the screwdrivers in the trays they come with is the best way. You need big drawers to do it, but it keeps them neat. I have to do some stacking.

Totally agree about hiding the nice stuff I keep all my Snap On stuff in my tool box and the Craftsman and Kobalt stuff on pegboard. I do wish there was a better way to keep stuff organized in the box. Here is what I have in the box.

Trade in the mass of extras, for the one's you want. Put the onea you want in the car/truck, then the house, and then tour father.
Never know qhen you'll need them.
But for organization, fill the service cart.

Mine are split into a few locations.

Regular use Philips, flat and torx are located in the top couple trays here (among other stuff). All Hazet.

Heavy duty PH and flat and some more torx and small ones in another box in pouches, all Wiha.

(No pics of the Wiha micro drivers)

Also have a lot of bits and stubby and regular and long bit holders

I'm no tool polisher. These things have put a lot of food on the table and kept my two daughter's school tuition paid for many years.

Harbor freight magnet strip. Bought three, and this was the only one that was entirely magnetic.
