I would have bought the 311 pc set. It has way more 3/8's pieces.

Actually, it has 12 more pieces when printing off the sheets and cross referencing. All the extra pieces are 3/8 hex bits. I could be wrong but went off the parts sheet.

At worst you paid 0.94 a socket with the deal listed above. Who cares at that price. Throw the extras in a box if you don't need them, or sell them on eBay. Enjoy, as it's likely the last time we'll be able to buy US sockets that cheaply.

If the chinese finish is anything like gearwrench's sockets, it will be 3 times better than the Armstrong/Craftsman finish.

I talked to Sears earlier today and they say that these are still USA made (old stock). I ordered them today paying $250 and some change after points so hopefully they'll show up USA and in at least semi decent condition.

As requested, here are the pictures of what I received. Pulled out one 24mm 12-point socket to compare to a US made one I have.

You can see that the manufacturing on the inside is not as nice as the US made socket. You can also see that the end of the socket is not completely round. There is a dent that got finished over. They would probably work fine but the defect on the one part I pulled out didn't give me confidence as to the quality of the rest of them. Again, YMMV.

Most of us new it would happen but I was kind of hoping they would bring back manufacturing back to the US before everything went overseas. I guess I'm wrong, and there never bringing the jobs back.

As Hootbro has said, this definitely *****. I had hoped to pick up one of these sets soon but not now. I will only buy USA made tools at Sear's and it gets more difficult all the time to find stuff. I refuse to reward companies for going overseas by purchasing **** made there. I end up buying many NOS USA items off ebay such as Vise Grips that are no longer made in the USA. It may save those companies $ in the short term but it also causes them to lose customers.

perfluorooctane sulfonate or "PFOS" is being banned in 2015 and is used in Chrome Plating. Only exemptions are for defense critical and aircraft parts.

There is supposedly some replacement chemicals for PFOS to allow chrome plating but there is some questions as to durability of the new process and chrome end product.

They showed up today. All were USA made and most looked pretty decent. It was missing a couple and 3 were damaged (messed up detents even for Craftsman so they wouldn't go on the ratchet, quick release or not - tried both). I'll call them tomorrow and see about getting those replaced/shipped. Other than that, I'm satisfied with them. I'm just a DIYer so I'm sure they won't see quite the use some of you guys could put them through but for $250.26 to my door they'll do just fine.

What a deal of a lifetime for someone looking to buy sockets for the first time. These Cman sockets are good, I'm not a fan of the double detents, it just doesn't make sense to me how it's a benefit... anyone know the purpose?

For the price of $250 you would be lucky to buy a 14pc 3/8 snap-on set.

if you don't do the discount, than you won't get it. If you do the steps in the first post, it gets you to $240-$250

I used the $35 code, then there was surprise points for buying over $300 in tools, then I had a couple of dollars worth of points myself plus free shipping. After tax it ended up being $250.26 and I had them in a couple of days. The trick for me was that when they went back up to $338 they weren't on HOT BUY so the $35 code would work taking it down to $303 which made it applicable for the higher amount of surprise points fo rbeing over $300 (I think it was like $65 or $75 that week in surprise points for a $300 craftsman purchase).
I called them earlier today and they are sending replacements for the damaged sockets and sending out the sockets they didn't send in the first place so they should be here probably early next week I would guess.

After receiving the Made in China set and returning it I decided to reorder the set. Talked to Sears beforehand and they assured me that the previous one was sent incorrectly due to human error and that the replacement set would be US. Receive the new set today and they are indeed USA Made. Missing one socket and two are incorrect (12 point instead of 6 point). Otherwise looks good. I'll call and get those shipped out.

I did note that all of the sockets are not finished the same. Some sockets are polished all the way round the business end while some are rougher/matte finish around the beveled opening. Anyone else notice the same thing?

Its not a rough finish. Its some sort of coating they put on the socket, If you scratch at it a little you'll see that its chrome underneath.
