I just found this and might have to use it here shortly. I couldnt help but laugh at the guy from reading, pa that got harassed. If its on the sears website then its free game for anyone, they could of certainly put it in a restricted folder that is accessable when you are logged in (if you have to log into the craftsman club on the site).

Norton, which Sears store is that in Chicagoland?

I have tried both ELmhurst and Oak Brook with no luck lately.

Tiny

Woodfield, Golf Mill and Six Corners. I have hit all three since Xmas Eve without anyone questioning the coupon. Several of the associates have asked me where I found it so they can print their own. Goodluck.

Well, more happy shopping. I hit the local Sears today and loaded up on 6pt metric wrenches - 8mm thru 17mm and also ran across a 12pc metric wrench set that was regularly priced at $39.99, but was on-sale for $19.99 and with a coupon got it for $15.99. Got some other stuff as
well.

I am going to stop by there a few times a week until this deal expires.

This is exactly what Sears is trying to do....get you in the store to buy tools. It seems to be working to me. :)

Wife and I stopped by Sears today, each of us bought one item, and they honored the coupons. One woman didn't know if she should but the senior counterperson had her do it, no hassle.
Hard part was finding anything at Sears for a low enough price that 5.00 off made it worth buying. Got a mirror/magnet that retails for 14.99, on sale for 7.59 for 2.59. About fair, and Klein number two phillips (I can't seem to keep them) for 2.75 out the door.
Gonna go back tomorrow for a couple sockets that I would like.

Sears is so dang high priced that the cheap stuff still costs more than it would at HF, and is also made in China.
The expensive stuff, well, 5.00 just doesn't drop it to E-bay/Craftsman clearance vendor prices.
Still was a fun way to kill an hour.

have had no trouble with sale items. I have even printed items from the sears website that have the items marked down and they have matched the price and then used the coupon

Dude, you're not working it right. Don't buy a wrench set, but buy each wrench in the set, one-at-a-time with a coupon for each. The 6pt wrenches I got today would have been $68 total at reg price - I got each one seperately with a coupon and paid total of $24.......still way cheaper than if I had bought the 6-pt set at $39.99.

Woodfield is one of two closest Sears stores to the Sears Holdings Corporation's headquarters in Hoffman Estates. If they take the coupon, then I think any store should.

I have been stocking up on spare screwdrivers and air compressor fittings. Can never seem to have too many of either of those.

Yeah but I tried the Oak Brook store which is only 6 miles further from Hoffman Estates and I was roundly rejected a couple of times by some persistent cashiers.

The 39.99 wrench set sells for about 20 bucks on E-bay through the open package vendors.

And I live close to three of them so no shipping costs.

And with tax at 8.25% plus the high local Sears prices, the set would have cost me about 35.00 bucks buying them one at a time. Plus, I have no need for more sets of Craftsman wrenches.

I wanted a single Gearwrench 7/16, as it didn't come with any of my sets. But it was 20 bucks...

So with coupon that's 15.00 plus tax.

Or I can buy the complete set for 22 bucks at Costco and pay 7 bucks for 7 other wrenches...

That's the problem with Sears; the prices are so high on individual pieces that you just can't make it up.

Sears uses price regions. Some stores are much more expensive than others. Mine is pretty expensive. I could drive 50 miles to a cheaper one, but where’s the profit in that for small items?

Finally saw them ge their boxes of inventory out. I picked up a bunch of items with 7 coupons today so now I'm waiting patiently for the screwdrivers to get set out again.

Cut the coupon out of the paper. It avoided a lot of the questions I get.

$22?? I gotta check that out.

They are 'mastergrip' at Costco. 8 for 22 and change. They were on sale cheaper last week. 22 is regular price. They are metric and SAE, but they are usually out of Metric.
I have Mastergrip, Gearwrench, Geartech and Armstrong.
The finish is best on the Gearwrench, the Mastergrips are slightly shorter and thicker. All have about the same quality and feel, but the point is that there is no way the Gearwrench is worth 20 bucks a wrench.
Have not broken any of them yet, but I am still trying...

Seems like Sears really sticks it to you on single items, maybe so that sets look like a much better deal, even if they aren't in comparison to other sources. Part of it could be the way that retailers look at each SKU these days, its all about the cost of shelf space and return per square foot etc.

Sears and others HAVE to be planning what they include in sets, and leaving out key sizes or ranges on "bargain" sets.

This coupon could also just be a trick to get us all to buy bigger boxes.

They screwed up if thats the plan. I wouldn't have a Cman box. I'd take the Pro series but for the money I'd rather find a used Matco or Snap-On.

Looks like Sears plan is working. WIFE = $$$, maybe not in the tools department but if your Sears is like the one in Athens, GA Sears, you have to go through either womens clothing or Appliances to get to the ToolsDept. :bitchslap

Heading out in a few minutes to try my luck.

> This is a widely read garage and tool forum of which it's members speak very highly of Sears and Craftsmen. I printed off several of the on line coupons in color and my wife and I went to Sears where I found 8 sockets for 8.49 each and took them to the check out. When I presented the coupons to the clerk he called the manager. While waiting on the manager he started laughing and saying "We can't honor copies, what's to keep you from using 1000 of these?" I explained that they were online coupons and were not "COPIES" and that I am only planning to use 8 but that others across the US are using them at their Sears so why can't I.He just rolled his eyes and laughed again. The manager (Johnny Kozlowski) arrives and takes the coupon back to his office and comes back with a memo from a Mary Ann Hudson, District Loss Prevention Coach (District 168 Augusta/Athens GA) stating the coupons should not be accepted. I explain that I got them off of a Sears webpage
> http://www.sears.com/ue/home/5Offcoupon.pdf?sid=I0084400010000100383&aff=Y so why are they not good. He finally said just to be nice I can let you use one. I explain that the coupon does not say it is limited to one per person or one per day. After about 30 minutes of waiting and discussion I end up only spending $3.45 and leaving feeling somewhat humiliated by the first gentleman laughing and making me sound like a crook in front of my wife, two other salesmen and 3 customers. My wife had come along with me so she could look at refrigerators. Do you think we looked at refrigerators after that. I await your reply before reporting my experience back the the arforementioned forum and several other automobile forums I belong to. Thanks

I have responded to her and await her further correspondance. My question is :headscratWho the f*** is this Holdings guy, did he replace Mr Roebuck or something. :)

So now this forum will be sued and shut down as the letter appears to state that this forum is somehow responsible for the coupon... Just kidding, I hope.

Some people don't understnad how to read the print on the coupon. It's one per purchase which means one per transaction. To be completely fair, one should go to the back of the line when waiting so as to use them "one at a time". When it's empty though you can do 20 in a row if you like.
The cashiers usually cannot put two and two together.

While Sears should know the coupon originated from THEM and NOT from garagejournal.com, I still would not have mentioned this forum in your email to Sears. Why would you ever mention this site??

when asked I say you can find it by doing a search for 'sears' and 'coupon'. I did this and it works by the way.
one of the things I do is lurk around untill I see a lul in customers so that there is no issue with me doing seperate sales of the items.
I have had several people read it to see what the limits are and have yet to have anyone say I cannot use several in a day.
on one visit the girl called the manager and then proceded to help another customer. the manager got ther and looked at the coupon and accepted it. then he accepted 3 more on seperate sales.
I have limited my use to 10-12 per visit so as not to attract too much atension. remember guys, if we get sears pissed they wont ever do this again.

as it has been said before, it can get tough to find $5 tools, amd I do not want to buy one socket at a time as I really dont need more and I dont want to clutter myself with stuff I do not need.

today I got
4.5 in grinding wheels
6 in buffing wheels
drill bits (standard cobalt and 12 in long bits)
screwdriver bits
roto-zip bits
buffing compound
small c clamps
small pack with 1 drill and 1 tap
set of 4 picks on sale for $5.99

this is a perfect time to stock up on consumables

my largest out of pocket today was $1.07
smallest was $0.06

I didn't mean to jeapordize the site or get anyone in trouble and I seriously don't think there are any grounds for a lawsuit here. I was merely trying to make it known to Sears that the coupons are being used nationwide but when I tried to use them I was laughed at and denied. I wasn't ashamed of my actions of attempting to use them nor did I feel that I needed to hide where I learned of them. Should I have been? Perhaps I am just too naive. If I was wrong then I'm sorry. so go ahead :lol_hitti take a whip on the new guy

As a sales person working for Sears in the tool dept I gotta say I hate these coupons and they can't expire soon enough. The reason is I work on comission and its hard as hell to make a living getting 1% commision an a .01 cent sale.

Now on the other hand as a consumer, Use the hell out of them.

And we accept them at my store. Neblinc, where are you?

Please don't take this as jumping on the new guy, its not because your new, its because what you did isn't a good idea. Its like someone coming into your shop and handling a tool in an unsafe manner, its not personal, not about who they are etc., its about no ties around the lathe and it applies to everybody.

January 23rd would be a dandy time to raise complaints over mistreatment.

Mentioning any online forum is generally a BAD idea. Not because we are doing anything wrong, but because one letter from Sears legal to the company hosting the site, and it could just **** regardless of the merit of their statements. Another site I am VERY fond of banned all coupons, another banned all price discussions, pretty much none of the hosts want any kind of legal problems right or wrong.

Calling customer service etc. to be "sure" etc. about some special deal very often kills the deal, right or wrong.

Well my experience wasn't quite that good. here first is the reply from Customer Relations in response to my complaint following

Calling and/or emailing national level customer service is about the most selfish thing you can do in a situation such as this coupon. Best possible way of ruining it for everyone.

Cliff notes: DO NOT CALL/EMAIL ABOUT DEALS THAT ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE (because they are and they'll get pulled as soon as management gets wind).

"One coupon per purchase. Void if copied, transferred and where prohibited by law. Any other use constitutes fraud."

It is clear that Sears did not intend for the coupon to be used the way we have been using it. There is no direct link to it on any website or document that I have seen. By going back again & again, we are taking advantage of some pocket of incompetence at Sears Holdings. I'm not saying it is anyone but Sears' fault but don't pretend you are not taking advantage of their incompetence. It is kind of like selling magic beans to a retarded kid for $5.

Some people are just too dramatic. The coupon says one per transaction. So what if we go through the line a couple times, that is within the limits they set on the coupon. Maybe they should have stated, one use per customer, per day or something like that. And if they won't take it at your store, maybe talk to the Mgr, but DON"T get Sears Corporate into the matter, even IF they call and tell that store Mgr to accept them, he is going to hassle you every time you do - just accept that some people are a$$holes and move on to another store or another register in a different department.

Now Sears is going to be reading this whole forum to see if someone here "made" the coupon (which CLEARLY is not the case since it is in their POS system) and may very well cancel the coupons all together.

If some of you guys feel bad about using the coupons, DONT USE THEM and don't ***** when the rest of us do.

I think all is fine if people don't just use them to use them. I am only using them because I need sockets and couldn't afford them otherwise. I use no more than one per day. Everyone treats me fine and most even go to great lengths to help me get my coupon to work if it won't scan. I doubt they would do as much if I asked them to separately ring up 20 different items and apply the discount, bringing each total to $.50. I would get annoyed at this if I was working there. I try to keep this in mind when I'm using it. If they won't even accept 1 coupon from you then I don't know what to tell you except your Sears *****. Many times the managers get called over to help the cashier apply the coupon. They are very patient and ensure I get my $5 off. If they said no I would just politely say no thanks and return the item to the shelf. Try another store. As others have said, lets not push our limits with these. Having said that, rsanter, what was the 6 cent item?:lol_hitti

BMWPOWER,
Again sir I respectfully apologize for mentioning the site in my correspondance to Sears. I was trying to emphasize to them that while most stores are honoring the coupons, there are some that are not and referenced this site to clearly support that. BUT in hindsight, I agree there was no need to name names. I regret that my posting stirred things up. I don't however appreciate the name calling and the insinuation that I alone will be the cause for the coupon to be cancelled. I think what will cause the coupon to be pulled are the rabid actions of some in using the coupon for no telling how many times for things they probably don't even need. I agree with JoeB that many are taking advantage of this situation and abusing the coupon and it will only hurt Sears in the long run which I certainly hate to see. My complaint and the dialogue of this forum is only a drop in the bucket compared to probably hundreds of other forums and similar sources. Hopefully there will not be any problems created by my referencing this site but if so I stand ready to accept responsibility for that.
It is rather ironic that when my wife and I stopped by Sears, we were on our way to Atlanta to pick up a purchase I had made on Craigs list of a vintage creeper complete with the old logo "Sold only by Sears, Roebuck and Company".
Peace brothers

Only one problem with your argument: "using the coupon for no telling how many times for things they probably don't even need"

They are "tools", how could we possibly get tools we probably don't even need? :)
Even if I don't USE them, I do NEED them, heh heh. They are shiny.

:lol_hitti I punched that timecard for 5 years at store 1410 till they took the salespeople off commission and yeah... I hated these coupons but would use them myself if I could get ahold of them. If I saw a guy walking in with coupons in his hand, all you saw was a puff of dust where I had been standing. If by some miracle there are still commission tool SALES PEOPLE (NOT minimum wage cashiers) have a little courtesy an limit the number of transactions you bombard the poor guy with. Won't be long till you're dealing with high-school wage slaves who don't know the difference between tin-snips and bolt cutters.

Buickfarmer, I don't see a huge problem with what you did. I'm sure Sears A. Knew about this board WAY before you emailed them and B. was probably aware of this thread before you contacted them. Most 21st century companies are going to monitor web chatter about their names and products (especially the intern who drafted this coupon). Guys getting on here and bragging about using 12 coupons a day are doing way more potential damage than you (which I doubt is very much). I doubt Sears would want to get in a legal tangle with this many potential ex-customers watching.

Tool salespeople at Sears used to work on commission???? Holy ****! The salespeople that I have encountered at Sears have got to be some of the most ignorant people that I have ever encountered when it comes to tools!!!! I cannot count the number of times that i have helped on of my fellow customers when the sales person was of little help....

Thats the attitude. I was hoping the jabs wouldn't run off a newer member. Obviously you've already been informed of this, but all forums discourage involving forum material in a dispute. You are very welcome here and we understand your frustration in not being able to participate in this opportunity. I think you should find another Sears to use your coupons. OK, I think everyone will stop jabbing you, enjoy the forum!
