if you are getting rejected, post the store location. I've heard several from MI and one from MD.

Virginia Center Commons Richmond Virginia
Richmond Sears Scratch & Dent on Tomlin Ave.

I have not tried the other two near Richmond, they are almost 45 minutes from my house...

Great.........I sent the link to my uncle-in-law who lives in Richmond.......bet he thinks I am full of **** now. :wtf:

For those of you who are getting the "fruad" "fake" response, why not just ask them to scan it and see that it is in their POS (Point Of Sale = cash registers) system - even without you buying anything. They HAVE to believe it is real then, how could a fake coupon get in their POS from an outside source?

BTW, I made a stop at Sears again today and collected some more sockets to fill my sets. I'd *like* to get every socket they offer.........though I don't know if I can get that done before the 22nd.......I am going to try though.

try it buy I already had one girl tell me that the 'hackers can do that' line
I pointed out that the coupon was on sears.com and she told me that a hacker could just put it on their site so it looked like it was theirs. I told her that if thats the case then you need a new IT department.

I almost feel bad if it is really hackers. It's been on their website for along time now, they should take it off if they don't want to honor it.

There's 70 some pages about it over on slickdeals.net, plus if you google "$5 off sears" a bunch of results come up. Maybe the IT department has been on vacation. lol

"Counterfeit coupons!"

The implications of that statement crack me up. So Sears corporate has discovered that a counterfeit coupon has been surreptitiously inserted into their website. Oh noes! Action must be taken! So what do these corporate officers do to protect the stockholders?

A - Remove the counterfeit coupon from THEIR website and replace it with a disclaimer and notification of fraud?
B - Notify all Sears stores of said fraud and instruct them to flag the counterfeit coupon's barcode so that cashiers will be alerted to the deception?
C - Select at random store department managers and cashiers to form a thin red line against the hordes of hucksters with suspect coupons?

Yep got the "Scam" treatment today @ one store. Kid told me that his manager told him they were all fake unless they were on "card stock" and not just printed on paper:wtf::confused:. I asked him to scan it to show him that it was legit and asked him to punch in the sears web address that it is listed on to prove it. Still a no go. I left - a little ticked, but what the heck can't win them all, I'll just go to a differant store.

And the link on page one post one is still working :)

Buy some thick paper. Seriously for those of you having trouble, a more legitimate looking coupon may help(or may not).

My wife just used another one, got some extreme wrenches.

No problem.

Maybe it's just the guys buying 10 items for 5.01 that are being hassled.

I was only trying to buy one item for $125 and they wouldn't allow the coupon. Like there isn't $5 in markup on a $125 item anyway. I ended up buying them somewhere else. (Not that Sears really cares )

I just got the "hackers-fraud" speech when I tried to use it on the $69.99 26-piece wrench set at the Chapel Hill mall in Cuyahoga Falls OH store.

Kind of funny. These were on sale much cheaper during christmas, and now he wouldn't let me use a $5 coupon on a $59 set... that's not even 10%. I asked him to scan the coupon and he wouldn't, then he tried to keep the coupon!

:lol_hitti... looking at the reciept it says Assoc # 1685 at Store 1520. I didn't see his name because he keeps a picture of his family in his name tag. He was polite about it at least, apparently his manager said these were fake/fraud.

I'd take these back but I need them for my second tool set (I'm living out of two garages right now) and they were on sale for $59.99.

It really cracks me up that I'm getting denied use of the coupon on something they would clearly still make money on. I couldn't help but think about what Chris Adams said, this kid was clearly not doing the "math" in his head and I certainly wouldn't want him working for me in any capacity.

I tried to use the coupon for the first time today... OK, I'm a little slow at catching on. I got the same "hacker-fraud", "pirated web site" speech at the Sears store in the Crossroads Mall in Kalamazoo, MI. I even tried several other departments and each one said they wouldn't take the coupon, blah, blah, blah. One employee stated that they had a company meeting where the manager told them not to accept any. I showed them the screen shot of the web site and they wouldn't have anything to do with it even with just one item in my hand.

I asked the guy "why the heck would a hacker make a $5 coupon instead of $25 or $100?"

I still think the coupon was a bad business decision for sears because of potential abuse but now it's a REALLY bad idea if they're handling it this way.

Personally, I hope the anonymous hackers go with a "50% off all Craftsman products" coupon next time around.

You set up your granny.

We live 35 minutes each way from the nearest Sears store so it's not like I can stop by. She said she was going into town for some shopping and I figured I had used some two days earlier so I figured it would be ok. My bad. So my grandpa called today and needed me to put a serpentien belt on his minivan I had to drive by Sears to get to his house so I stopped by Sears on the way home to see if I could get the "fraud" speech nope bought two different wrenches with coupons and returned a 7/8 wrench that was broken in half no questions asked about anything.

I used about 15 of them tonight. I only had one girl get a little pissy, but I think she was in a bad mood anyways. She didn't care about the coupon, just didn't want to ring stuff up seperate. Lady tonight had no problems at all ringing up sockets seperate.

Bought one of the $59.99 Craftsman Club torque wrenches tonight and got an additional $5 off from the coupon. Also bought a couple screwdrivers for about 31 cents each.

Fellow at the counter said he got his *** chewed for taking these a couple days ago, but didn't really balk a lot seeing as I had a larger purchase, too.

Probably had the store manager tell everyone to discourage use, but not deny unless large quantities are presented.

Lots of Canadian hardware stuff uses Roberston (square drive). Apparently they're less prone to stripping than phillips.. dunno why they haven't caught on here.

I printed them in color, high quality and cut them out so that they were like "coupon size" instead of the entire piece of paper. "Card Stock" seems a little extreme, all thier flier coupons are on that cheasy thin paper.

I didn't even get to ask to ring up my stuff seperate (3 sockets) He saw the coupon in my hand and said "we don't accept those" and thats when the BS started.

For CT Guys - The store that denied me was the Farmington/NewBritain Sears - the Stand Alone building.

I Have successfully used them @ Manchester, CT (Buckland Hills Mall) and @ Willimantic/North Windham, CT @ the sears hardware near WalMart. But that was about 1.5 weeks ago.

some deck screws use robertson drive. I like them because the square drive bit has a slight taper to hold the screw to the end of the bit

Depends on if you have an older enclosed trailer I use them to check a lot of the screws or disassmbling a camper trailer. I bought a box of square drive drywall screws for instaling shelving brackets :bounce:

Not too likely for most of us though you would have to admit; and the boxes of screws usually come with a bit or two to use in your drill gun to zip the screws.

I have had no issues using it. I try to limit a coupon per visit but sometimes i will buy something, go out to my car, grab another coupon and go in.

So far I've bought:
- all the craftsman pro screwdrivers (that they have in the store) to fill in my 10pc set.
- Misc sockets (36mm, sparkplug sockets, etc)
- razor blades
- drum brake retaining spring tool

As anyone tried the coupon on batteries? Like AA, AAA, D, etc?

Batteries do not qualify - they aren't division 9 (tools ) nor are they lawn & garden.

On the same note- didn't have any luck w/the small blue propane bottles

Paint brushes don't work either. They are very close to tools but are a different code. I had one brush for .29 that i'd have loved to use with some sockets.
