If only I had the guts to try that with my pencils and photo hangers!

I figured WTH. I went to a store that is on the other end of town, which happens to be on my way to school. I have only used one coupon there a couple of weeks ago. Figured I had nothing to lose, if they took the stuff back great, if they told me they couldn't, no big deal.

Definitely made money on me... Sockets in sets @ full price, for example, the 145 piece set for $200 = $1.33 per socket, and on sale (as it had been many times since Thxgiving for $100), = $0.66 a socket. Therefore, for lots of the sockets that are $6.79 etc, even with the $5 off its still $1.67 a socket, or above the cost in the set. The "savings" (or losses, from Sear's perspective) are hardly the # coupons used times $5, because I'm sure the vast majority were used on already overpriced open stock items like sockets, screwdrivers, etc. I spent far more money at Sears this xmas season because of this coupon, and because my local store was so reasonable (not denying the coupon) I will keep shopping there. Seems like a win/win to me.

How much money do you make off a sale? Just curious...
We get 1.5% on tool chests, 4% on accesories and 1% on everything else. An example; You come into Sears to buy a new 19.2 volt 1/2" drill/worklight combo for $119.99 http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00911542000P?vName=Tools&keyword=craftsman+c3 and also purchase a 29 pc cobalt drill bit set for $99.99. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00964086000P?keyword=cobalt+drill+bit+set

I make 1% or $1.20 for the drill and 4.5% or $4.50 for the drill bits for a grand total of $5.70 for that transaction. So on a .01 cent sale I get .0045 cent commission. which I have had several with this coupon. That is why as an associate I hate them. As a consumer on the other had, well that is what this thread is all about.

look at it this way. if you made the sale with the coupon at a time when you were doing nothing else, then you are on the positive side for sure.
if you let me use the coupon and didnt give me any grief about it and if you went so far as to help me with a smile in letting me use the coupon, I will remember you and come see you on a future trip.
today at the clovis sears I had a salesguy that was really nice about it and was helpfull. next time I want to make a purchase I will prefer to buy from him.
there was a guy at the local sears that has now moved on, but he was always good to me so I had bought 2 toolboxes from him (and waited for when he was there) because if it.
serving the customer well will come back to you

Too much going on at home. Couldn't get out to the store today. It's over, I can sleep at night and I can save gas on al the trips I was making. I can finally take the time to USE the tools I bought.

Saved a bunch of money and have more tools than before. Maybe 50-60 coupons used but no real idea. I think I'll frame a coupon over my workbench to remember the fun.

I agree with the "go back to the helpful associate" mentality. There is one cashier who put up with me a lot and I remember his helping me out a few months ago when I was picking up clearanced socket sets for cheap. I made sure to buy my benchtop tools from him instead of the other guys. He was never pushy and always available when I did need help. The other guys just like to hover. Then when I ask them any questions, they either make up some BS or shrug the questions off completely. They hover around me asking if I need help, but when I do, they're useless.

I have my receipts in little piles. I won't put them on the wall though, that would be too much of a fire hazard, hehe.

Ha, that sounds like a good idea. I may tape one in the lid of my box as a momento too.

I went to Sears about 6:30PM last night and closed them down. The store I went to is REALLY slow on weeknights, and UK played TN at home, so no one was out. I made about 6 arm load trips to the counter and no one had a problem with it at all. I think at a few times, i was the only person in the store (my wife and kids were hanging out playing on riding mowers though). I spent one arm load of stuff from the $1 bin - used 6 coupons at 5 itmes that were $1ea (so 30 items) with a total of $0 - cause the coupon cancelled the tax :D

I got some big wrenches (24mm & 1-5/16) that I am going to need for a project very soon and a couple more Hansen socket trays, another nice wrench tray (should have got a 3rd one), drill bits, Robo Wrench set, Auto-locking pliers among other things.

Man, I am kind of sad that this has came to an end, but it is probably best for my wallet for a while. What I'd really like to see is that $10 off anything $20 or more deal come back around so I could finish getting the bigger ticket items

I wouldn't be as interested in a 10 off 20 coupon as I'd spend too much real money. A $10 off $10 would be nice. ;)

I picked up a couple more Cman Pro screwdrivers with the coupon last night. As I was checking out I saw two pair of these for $10, reg. $20...

Needless to say I walked out with a couple of carb-tuning screwdrivers and a couple pair of new Kleins, all for under $25.

Yep, A few dept still pay commision. Lawn & Garden (includes excersize equip), Hardware & Paint, Electronics, and Appliances. Lawn & Garden and Hardware get a small hourly + commision, Electronics and Appliances are straight commision.

If that is true, then you'd think that the Sears associates in my area would get their at together...

It's a lost cause. Many of the tool guys know nothing about most of the tools in the dept. or even how to find answers.

"Can I help find something? Here, you can put that by the register and come back when you're done so I can ring up your purchase."

"Would you happen to know how much that drill drill press weigh?" (I knew the answer roughly but wasn't sure, although I knew exactly how to find out right then and there)

"How should I know, I don't have a scale. Are you ready to check out?"

I found one pac of Shop-Vac brand filter bags in the Craftsman vac aisle but wanted more than one package. They scanned in the system but I couldn't find their original location."

"Would you happen to know where this came from so I can buy one additional package?"

"We don't carry that. I can ring these up for you though."

"But I just found it over there and the UPC scanned in the price scanner over there."

"Well we haven't sold those for a few years now, that must have been old stock. Can I ring you up."

A week later, I found three pegs of the Shop Vac filter bags by the power tools.

Or this one that I constantly get pissed about. The product is always on the wrong pegs, especially sockets. The SKU number is on the wall behind the product so that when it is empty they can scan and order more. Since the associates just put the product wherever, they never scan the right item to order more!

That's why the local Sears has horrible inventory and it's a crapshoot for when they'll receive the right product. They have four or five pegs full of 3/8" x 6 c-man pro screwdrivers, (in the wrong slots) and none of the other variants ever come in!

The socket rack is a mess and they are always out of certain sizes because they don't know which SKU to scan to ordr the right ones. 6pt and 12pt are all intermingled.

Then I see the associates restocking the shelves with little care... when they are not talking in a circle and surfing the net.

My store stopped accepting the coupon on the last day while T was in the middle of a transaction. I was about to get 3 of the screwdriver racks /w accompanying pencils for $0.61 each when the lady called her manager who said they aren't taking online coupons anymore. Luckily they let me keep the magnetic pickup tool and inspection mirror that I had already paid for. Tried going back a few hours later to a different register but everyone knew.

WOW, I'm sorry to here that you get such lousy service at your store. Have you ever filled out the customer service survey at searsfeedback.com that is printed on your reciept. If you fill this out it does get back to the Dist. Mgr., the Store Mgr and the Dept. Mgr.

Not to sound like I'm tooting my own horn, but in my store our main focus is the customer. If we don't know the answer we do everything we can to find the answer and our customer service score is the highest in our Dist. Also our dist is one of the highest in the nation.

By all means, it's not totally lousy service, just a few useless tool guys mixed in with a few absolutely great ones, although they're pretty clueless too.

Then again, it's how much one knows but if they're able to find out what they need to know that matters.

I started reading this thread not knowing it was so old.

Half way into the first post I’m confused and thinking to myself, “there’s Sears stores still open?”
