I think I have a Grey one that is identical to a Fuller except it says 'Grey' on it. I'd dig for it but I'm a long ways from my tools (like, 650km). Fuller seems to make all of the Made in Canada hard handle screwdrivers.
Identical, or similar? If it's identical, I'd be inclined to believe it's Fuller but I bet they aren't really identical. And really, many of the old school hard handled screwdrivers look very similar. Look at the USA Western Forge Craftsmans, Wright hard handles or older SKs, Vermont Americans and so on...
It's certainly a
confirmed truth that Fuller makes the Craftsmans and (at least the older) Ronas. I personally read the list of suppliers for Craftsman and it was Innovak (who is Fuller). Innovak used to be written on the back of the package on the Ronas too, but I notice the style must have changed in the past year or two on the Rona drivers and I don't know if that's still true...
The top driver is from the current "Pro 300" line. They are almost identical to the original "Golden Grip" (the grip is golden!) line that was
EVERYWHERE in Canada 25 years ago. You still can't go to a garage sale run by older folks in Canada without tripping over Golden Grips...
Actually it's my own potential misinformation, but unless Gray makes them themselves (not sure it'd be worth it, as most of their other screwdriver/ nutdriver lines are off-shore or U.S. made) I don't see who else would make them.
You might very well be right, Gregg, and Fuller may very well be the producer of the Grays. I'd just like to confirm that's the case. But to my mind, the Grays look different enough to be the product of another company.
For instance, I've never seen a Fuller driver with those blackened tips as appear on the Gray Phllips and some slotted. And I have to wonder why the Gray Robertsons - while employing a genuine Robertson insert bit like the Fullers - have different handles than the slotted and Phillips drivers.
