Also regarding the tool boxes. It's obvious they are SPG's but aren't the tool boxes in the U.S. Sears stores Waterloo?, they look very similar to me.

Yes Waterloo in the States. I actually (yesterday) picked up an International brand SPG tool box down here, it's exactly what is up in Canada. "OK" tool boxes, better than Waterloo, but not by much, maybe a half step above them.

Where did you hear this, Gregg? I doubt it myself...

Actually it's my own potential misinformation, but unless Gray makes them themselves (not sure it'd be worth it, as most of their other screwdriver/ nutdriver lines are off-shore or U.S. made) I don't see who else would make them. There are those multi-bit drivers Quick-Bit or Quick-Pik (not sure of the sp. or the exact name) which probably aren't made by Fuller, so I suppose it could be another manufacturer. If you hear one way or another let me know.

I think I have a Grey one that is identical to a Fuller except it says 'Grey' on it. I'd dig for it but I'm a long ways from my tools (like, 650km). Fuller seems to make all of the Made in Canada hard handle screwdrivers.

They've got a couple different quality levels of boxes. I have three bottoms. One is the low end home-consumer stuff, not ball bearing sliders, and the drawers appear to not be quite as heavy. I bought it on sale for about $230, IIRC? Normally like a $350 box. Another has ball bearing sliders, and you have to pull up on the drawer handles to open them (they have a hook latch). I guess it's more of a 'Pro' model, since it apparently does not go on sale (so I bought it with gift cards). I think it was about $400. Both those boxes were 27x19" by about 50-something high. The other one has again different drawers, ball bearing sliders, with just the positive locking on them (takes a little force to get them to come open, or close all the way), appears to have the heaviest of all of them as far as construction goes, and does go on sale. I bought it used, but brand new off a guy from work for $200. I think full retail is $700. It's a 42x19", but not as tall as the others. I then added a side cab for some ridiculous amount (another $200 maybe, it was bad value compared to the box) because I decided I wanted on. I wouldn't buy another of those.

All of my prices might be screwed. But at least they aren't made in China. To buy similar boxes from Mastercraft (CanTire), International (PrincessAuto), Husky, or really anywhere else would have been quite a bit more.

Their hand boxes are Chinese, however. I bought a $19 box to live under the seat of my truck and it's kinda ****, but it will work fine for that.

Identical, or similar? If it's identical, I'd be inclined to believe it's Fuller but I bet they aren't really identical. And really, many of the old school hard handled screwdrivers look very similar. Look at the USA Western Forge Craftsmans, Wright hard handles or older SKs, Vermont Americans and so on...

It's certainly a confirmed truth that Fuller makes the Craftsmans and (at least the older) Ronas. I personally read the list of suppliers for Craftsman and it was Innovak (who is Fuller). Innovak used to be written on the back of the package on the Ronas too, but I notice the style must have changed in the past year or two on the Rona drivers and I don't know if that's still true...

The top driver is from the current "Pro 300" line. They are almost identical to the original "Golden Grip" (the grip is golden!) line that was EVERYWHERE in Canada 25 years ago. You still can't go to a garage sale run by older folks in Canada without tripping over Golden Grips...

You might very well be right, Gregg, and Fuller may very well be the producer of the Grays. I'd just like to confirm that's the case. But to my mind, the Grays look different enough to be the product of another company.

For instance, I've never seen a Fuller driver with those blackened tips as appear on the Gray Phllips and some slotted. And I have to wonder why the Gray Robertsons - while employing a genuine Robertson insert bit like the Fullers - have different handles than the slotted and Phillips drivers.

I have all three of the top kinds. The top one was re-branded Mastercraft and sold by Canadian Tire for the longest time. The yellow fullers were ****. The craftsman are good for opening paint tins. I finally broke down and bought a set of Snap On drivers and they do remove screws that these can't.

I happened to be passing through Sears a couple of weeks ago after dealing with my cell provider in the mall when I saw the same set...

Had to have them at that price!

Then I went home & sold my old, partial, beat up set on kijiji for $12... ;)

Just the one, I'm afraid...

I think this set contained two sizes I did not already have. The only Canadian Craftsman screwdriver I'm now missing is the No. 0 Robertson (yellow handle) and I'll grab one the next time they have open stock at 40% off... :rocker:

Shows how little I shop at sears! I coulda sworn their toolboxes were imports.
May have to browse their tool section a little more closely the next time my wife drags me to the mall.

They are imports to me:lol_hitti, I wish I could get my hands on a made in Canada Craftsman tool box

That's a pretty standard price I paid the same or close IIRC. They were having a sale which if anything like Sears down here is every weekend...

IIRC I paid $55-$60 including tax for the set above and a set of the torx which were around $20. When I got back to the States I found a similar US made set for $10!! But to be fair the Canada ones look better.

Edit just saw you got them for $11 that's a killer deal I am jealous!! Haha. I like my Canadian screwdrivers I use them over my US ones as they are a bit beefier.

Looks like I need to make a road trip to do some field research. Curious...has it stopped snowing in Canada yet? I'll get the chains for the car if not. Note to self : don't forget the Rush, Neil Young and Bryan Adams music.
