In a good way. Wait, huh? I knew that title would get your attention.

Remember when Sears was selling Craftsman badged Vessel screwdrivers with JIS tips? Well, I just saw an email promoting their weird and strange **** like their flex-claw hammer, and their sad offshored pliers, and at the very bottom was something new for them.

Clearly more good Vessel stuff! This time, they're selling a set of impact screwdrivers.

Only problem with stuff like that is that they have it for a short time and in the future when you break it you are SOL
Cman and many others have had impact drivers for a long time, one difference with the impact driver is that you can change the tips out when you need a different size or when you break them

I almost bought a set of those several days ago when I was at a Sears, but held off since I got to wondering what do I do when the tips get worn out? I would assume with them being an impact screwdriver it might not take long and with the future of Sears looking dim, I wasn't sure if I wanted to take the chance on buying something that might not have a warranty before too long. Shame since they looked like they could be handy under the right circumstances.

:) The WF duckbill, and the pointed version of the same are some of my favorite pliers. I saw these Chinesium ones today, and they LOOK ok, but I'm not letting go of my WF ones, even if I think the new grips look a little nicer.

I know. :(

Still, I own Vessel screwdrivers, and have no expectation of being able to warranty them either. Even if I could, the return shipping would be more than the screwdriver is worth. At $20 for two, the Craftsman impact screwdrivers were less than the same pair from Vessel, and these are some real quality tools for the price.

I don't think I'd worry about the warranty on something that costs less than a couple of Starbucks Lattes and two Thai sesame chicken wraps.

Someone help me out here but I don't see how the 12 degrees rotation figures into a screwdriver. What am I missing?

EDIT: Never mind, a video is worth 1000 words.

It's an interesting concept, but with Sears' future looking questionable, and the tips likely to wear in short order, I'm going to have to pass, unless I get a boatload of suprise points

In the business section , today. Home Depot increasing stock of appliances and tools to lure Sears customers while Sears is reducing inventory and suing a supplier that does not want to risk not getting paid. Any day now. Radio Shack is gone and Sears is next. JC Penny has shifted gears and selling bedding to the hotel industry. A little unnovative management may save them. Sears' shelves are empty to save money and people are not finding what they came for so rhey go elsewhere. The middle class is not buying clothing in the malls. That has hurt, Sears, Dillards, and JC Penny.

The 8" duckbill and 8" long reach pliers (the ones that look like a duckbill but with more pointed tips) in that series of WF models were some of the best pliers Sears ever sold. I was never a fan of those matte black grips though.

Well, today I saw that they added something new to that series. A 10" version of the long reach pliers. At first glance, it looks like they took my favorite pliers (which I liked because the long handles give you so much leverage), and made them 2" longer. I couldn't leave without them!

I'll write back with a comparison with the WF ones I have when I open the packaging.

Or buy a dozen sets, put them away for a year and sell them on eBay for big bucks like the discontinued Craftsman Professional Screwdrivers. ;)
