Seeking Advice (Pics)

I just bought a new house & not sure what to do with the garage. I want to fit 2 cars in there when ever I need to. I plan on doing a lot of work on my car.

I want to paint the walls to give it a better look. Thinking of White trim with Grey on the bottom half, 3" White stripe then 4" Red stripe, 2" White stripe & 2.5" Black stripe with White on the rest of the wall. Also plan on painting the door grey too.

Might be a little confusing so maybe this will help.
Grey - 3.5 feet
White - 3"
Red - 4"
White - 2"
Black - 2.5"

Would this look good?

you've got a lot of potential there. for the stripes, i think it would look too busy. if you're going to two-tone the walls, i'd choose two colors max for the stripes. check out the two car garage thread in the gallery forum for more ideas. good luck.

Might be worth painting your idea on a scrap piece of drywall so you can live with it in the garage for a few days to see how you like it

Buy one of those paint software programs. You take your digital shots and import them into the software. Pick a colour and touch the part of the picture you want to paint with the mouse and it changes the colour for you and lets you see what it will look like with different colours. I think the software is about $20.00 at the big box stores.

I bought one from lowes & it didn't work very well. What if I just did Grey, Red & Black with the top half White & White trim???

You're plan sounds a little busy. I'd eliminate the white stripes between the gray and red and then again between the red and black. You're also going to want to make sure how tall things are that go against the walls. No point going through all of the work to paint stripes and then have them hidden. I'd also consider where electrical receptacles and switches fall. Stripes don't look good when interupted by them. You may need to raise or lower the stripes and adjust the width a little. A laser level will be your friend when laying out the paint.

No white stripes will work for me. Should I start the strips above or below the receptacles?

Doesn't really matter as long as they aren't in the stripe and you consider toolboxes, cabinets, etc. that will be up against the walls. Seems like you might want to go above the receptacles in your case. Depending on the color gray you go with, you could switch the receptacles to gray, tint the paint to match, and have the them disappear or maybe go black.

Experiment with your design in a corner or on scrap material until you like the layout.

I need some ideas on where to build a 6 foot work bench. I also plan on getting a couple of cabinets from home depot to hang on the wall. Where do you guys think I should build the bench? I want to be able to park 2 cars in there still.

Have you given any thought to leaving the walls white and adding a three stripe pattern? 1.5" black, 4" red and another 1.5" black for some contrast? You could also use a light gray for the walls instead of white and then use a white trim.

There is mine I went with three colors. I don't think that its to busy but then again I made it to what I like.

Don't spend money on junk software to "test" this, take your first pic and photoshop it.

Thanks "mikeyr" for the photshop. I'm still not sure what I plan on doing with the walls yet. I thought about doing away with the white stripes & just used grey, red & black with white on the top half & trim.

Mind you, I'm a slap white in all the bits of wall I can get to bloke myself
