Hello:
I am building a 8x12 shed 16 oc with a 5' metal roll up door. I have some questions on how to build the roof rafters or trusses.

The shed will not be insulated

Walls will be 8' using 1 bottom plate and 2 top plates
When I build the walls should I use 2 studs on each corner of each wall stacked together?

Roof pitch is 5/12 2' overhang
I have figured out I need 6 trusses or rafters is this correct?
I would like to be able to put a or 2 4x8 sheet of plywood width for a upper space adding more storage.
My questions are:

Would I want to build rafters with a center beam running the length or trusses? What angle do I need to cut the rafters or trusses at?
I have a speed square what I am asking is how or is there a website I can input my shed detentions and the pitch and it will tell me the length of each board and the angles I need to cut?

You will need 7 trusses, not 6. Measuring from one end, you need a truss at 0', 2',4', 6', 8',10' , 12'. Might be worthwhile to call around and buy pre-fabbed trusses. If you've never done it before, it CAN be done, but is difficult without knowing a few tricks of the trade and having made some mistakes along the way. Lots of youtube videos on using a framing square and framing a roof. I learned from my grandfather, 1 on 1.

Double top plate is fine. You can forego it if your stud layout places a stud under the tail of each truss. Double studs in the corners are there for nailing surface and aren't necessary structurally. If you can bang in some nailers with scrap pieces, it saves a little lumber.

I built my shed 10 years ago- 12x20, 5/12, 18" overhang and the trusses were just over $300 delivered. I could have stick framed it cheaper, but I thought the trusses were reasonably cost effective. And WAY quicker.

Depending on your site plan and your intentions for the shed, you might want to put the door on the 12' side, and build the roof so the rafters span the 12'. See the 'old shed' thread in my signature, its a 9' x 12' with that configuration.

you would need 5 trusses or rafter spans (0 2 4 6 8) with this config.

In my new shed (12x16) I went with rafters over trusses. A bit longer to build like the guys mentioned, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Cheaper too - 9 trusses were going to cost me ~ $1000 and 4 weeks. This was late summer so the truss maker was obviously busy.

(I think the previous owner built the old shed to 9' to maximize its size and not have to get a permit - 108 sf is the limit here).

It's a little shed, you don't need trusses. Just cut normal 2x4 rafters and add 2x4 rafter ties across the top plate. You can store items on some plywood resting on the ties no problem.

If the idea of cutting rafters scares you because the math seems complicated, just build the floor first. Then you can lay out your rafters on the floor and mark them for the cuts. It's easy.

I built an 8x12 for my boys shop
(I got fed up of not being able to get into the garage.)

We ended up with homemade trusses with 4 feet on one slope a 8 feet on the other.
Just for looks sake.
It kept the peak lower.

It was easy to lay out on the floor.
Plywood gussets at the joints.

Thank you everyone for all the information.
To add and answer some of the questions.
I am in western washingtion state. We do get snow but not much most of the time.

I poured my concrete pad yesterday 8x12 5' door on the 8' side

TR I like your suggestion. I want to built the rafters my self to learn and save money. Also to add space inside the shed

wmshay6 your right 7 needed every 2' I called around pre-made trusses in my area are out till April.

I also want to install a metal roof.

I took a look at your new shed page. What kind of siding did you use? I looks like metal to me.

What does the 2x4 rafter ties look like? I know Simpson makes them but not sure what one you are referring to?
