In addition to sheet rock and OSB -- what are other choices for wall materials over studs in the garage?

Have you checked your local building code? You may not have a choice. Many require sheetrock for fire. I've always thought about doing a melamine type sheet over the sheetrock, would be easy cleaning.

nissan crawler -- I am far enough out in the country that so far in our county we luckily don't yet have to worry about codes with regard to interior wall materials in barns -- this encourages one to get on with the job at hand.
And PAToyota -- many thanks for the tip to use "search" -- and for the directed link to past postings -- they were quite helpful.

how about a stainless overlay on the OSB or that 'plastic' sheeting they use in some comercial bathrooms

that "plastic" that they use in commercial bathrooms is called "FRP" (FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC)

I used Sheetrock (of course) with 8" of OSB for "baseboards" to guard against bumps from rollers, bikes, wheels, tool boxes. If one gets really bashed, I just unscrew it and cut another one!

I'm thinking of using OSB, with a layer of 5/8" sheetrock over it on the walls, and just sheetrock in the ceiling. I'm mostly doing this for sound insulation - to keep garage sounds in the garage - but it'll make it easier to hang stuff, too.
Any reason *not* to do this?

Most of that thread was the dixie guy pushing magnesiacore . Got to the point where I was beginning to think he worked for em.
