Not much talk about Sherwin Williams epoxy. Is it deemed to be "lower quality"? Expensive? I have a 500 sq ft garage floor and found the following:

ArmorSeal 33 Epoxy Primer/Sealer - 5 gal $250 Covers 200 sq ft / gal @ 8 mils

ArmorSeal 650SL/RC Self-Leveling Epoxy - 5 gal $250 Covers 160 sq ft / gal @ 10 mils

For $500 I could do 16 mil primer and 16 mil basecoat! They also offer the High Solids Polyurethane 3 gals for ~ $250. And you can tint the epoxy to any color.

I know $750 is getting pricey but it seems like a great cost/mil solution. And no freight, just go to the store and pick it up.

Comments? Is my math bad?

I used macropoxy and loved it. Other than the very strong smell it seems really good. Check out my posts on macropoxy. I used sw rexthane as a clearcoat and zero yellowing or no tire tracking yet. ( Its been a good month since I put it down).

That seems pricey for the thickness, would think it would be more like $250 for 500 sq ft @ 8 mills.
Doesn't SW also have another 100% solid option in their professional line you have to ask for?

I posted per gallon, so I think $500 does 500 sq ft @ 32 mils. Probably overkill?

Sherwin Williams also has another epoxy type product called Rex-thane. Has anyone used it or heard of it? I am researching it.

I just used 4 gallons of epoxy ArmorSeal HC1000 (2A+2B) and 3 gallons (2A+1B) of Urethane clear (UV protection among other things). Coated about 720 ft2 and cost me about $500 out the door. Granted that was a discounted price, but i think the stuff is usually around $100/gal. So, in the end I guess it would run you about $.97.ft2 regular price.

Can't vouch for long-term durability at this point (literally just finish applying it), but it sure looks purty.

I coated three of my garage totally 3,500 square feet using Sherwin William's ArmoSeal epoxy coatings. Although I had some issues with the product at first,, Sherwin William's was quick to resolve the issues.... Today, I'm extremely satisfied with my floors. As they have held up very well since I coated them five years ago. Link to my install, and mishap.. .. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2230

I don't think that Sherwin William's aggressively markets their epoxy products for the DIY'ers... And go after the professional installer...

in response to Old Guy, I can tell you that Sherwin Williams doesn't advertise contractor/commercial coatings of any kind to 99.99% of their retail customers. Even basic contractor grades catch them by surprise when i ask for them. If I ask for a simple latex paint, Pro Mar 200, they're in shock that I know they have more than whats on the shelves.

I was glad to hear that they took care of you. As a former employee...I can tell you that was always the goal.

By the gallon, though you need to think of it in terms of the combined parts -1 gallon part A and 1 gallon part B for the epoxy, and 2:1 for the clear. So, minimum you'll be buying 5 gallons of material.
