Shield-Crete Clear Coat

I need to make a decision fairly soon. I have installed the Shield-Crete product from Costco on my floor. I know....I should have researched more before I decided on the product but I have what I have.

Now my goal is to make it last as long as possible. I have heard good and bad about putting a clear coat on top of epoxy i.e. Yellowing, chalking, etc...

I have the paint flecks in the epoxy coat as it sits now but I have not added the non-slip material.

Would you recommend a clear coat for my application or should I leave it as is? I worry that the floor will not clean up as easily if I do not put down the clear coat.

Any advice on the best clear coat --manufacturer for my product? Perhaps if I put down a superior topcoat, the floor will endure more over the years.

I did buy some acrylic clear glaze from the same manufacturer H & C Products. It says it is a low VOC, one component clear waterborne acrylic sealer. Doesn't sound too strong, durable to me.

Helpful advice sought at this time....thanks in advance.

We always use a top coat. It helps seal the chips in and we use a clear epoxy as top coat so it is like getting twice the epoxy and it helps protect the original. it is also a good idea to put anti slip in. It doesn't make it that much more difficult to clean. We make people sign a waiver if they choose to do no anti slip to say we are not liable as there are to many law suit happy people in this world. We actually haven't had anyone go without it as we tell them about the waiver and most people take our word to just put it down as it is in the price we quote them. Good luck as you will have lots of suggestions for what to use and I don't like to push any products on the board if you want my opinion feel free to send me a pm and will tell you what we use.

I have been reading about the anti-slip and how it can have a tendency to wear the clear coat out more quickly and it can darken in spots as it wears. I will PM you separately to find out what brand you use. I suspect I will more than likely go with the same clear coat I bought from the same manufacturer due to compatibility issues.

x2 on that.our garage back home was sealed without it, and when rain/snow got on the floor, it was almost impossible not to split your sack trying to get across the garage. The floor at work is the same way. I put down about a pint of sand on my 20x24 garage, and it's great. It still can be swept and mopped, but you don't kill yourself if there's some water or oil on it.

Hi, I got your PM...

I'm a little conflicted about this one. This is one of those cases where there are better products out there but NO ONE is going to warranty their product on top of someones elses. In my opinion, the best thing you can do right now is to use a product from the same company.

Thanks,

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see if they offer a stronger, thicker clear coat than the one I bought that will hopefully last longer and wear better.

I went ahead and applied the clear glaze coat from the same manufacturer. I know the finish was inferior and it went on very thin. But it came down to ensuring that I had compatibility and the need to get something down right away as I was on day 6 and apparently I only had until day 5 to get it down unless I wanted to rough up the surface. I hope it sticks. If it doesn't, I imagine it will just wear away quicker and I will be left with just the epoxy coat. Funny that the instructions mentioned that "the glaze coat is applied over fully cured Shield Crete surfaces" which led me to believe that I had as long as I wanted to apply it. But in talking to a couple of technical reps today on the phone it is really in 5 days or less.

I realize that everyone on this forum is coating a garage, but I have a question on interior concrete floors. I have redone my master bedroom down to the concrete, painted with quikcrete 1 part epoxy paint and I was wondering what type of clear coat finish to use. I was thinking about Seal Krete Showroom Finish Premium High Gloss Sealer from Lowes.
Any comments?
