Shingle time per sq

On a ranch, what is the time to lay a square? I realize I is a guess but there must be some numbers a guy knows.

After it is prepped 15-20 min with a gun, the prep is what can take the time depending on what yuo have to do first.

With a gun, but not having done it before, I would say closer to an hour or two after its prepped. I did my last house, was 33 squares. I understood how to do it, my buddy came over that did it for a living, showed me and got the first row started. Once you get going you will pick it up quick.

If working on a steep roof with roof brackets, it could take longer.

It's about the same time as banging a ***** in the city.
Ha once everything is ready and laid out, even nailing by hand 20 minutes on a slope not greater than 5/12.
Everyone is different but still 30 minutes easy.

I did my garage last weekend. 7.5 square of 3 tab on 4/12 took me 2 full days of work and a few hours another day after I ran short of shingles. I'm not a roofer and it was 89 degrees out probably 100+ on the roof so lots of breaks. This is with a gun but just a cheap harbor freight one that sorta works.

3 to 4 sq per hr with a gun on a 6/12 or shallower. My crew of 5 can do 60 square per day tear off and install working 12 hr days. That includes everything through clean up and driving the dump trucks away. Of course deck type, condition ect all plays a part.

You asked and we answered. A square is only 10'x10'. Three bundles. Of course things will slow down when you get to valleys and detail work.

As above. When I did my shop, I'd say 20~30 per three bundles with a nailer, maybe quicker. Once you get the first row on and the exposure gauge set, you can just punch along. Line up one end, boom, space other, boom, boom, boom, next shingle, repeat. You lose time moving bundles, cutting open, chasing ones sliding off or blowing away, etc.

When I did my garage roof they charge a little extra to put them up on the roof. Was well worth it. Saved a lot of ladder time.

I had a bunch of detail and start work so it killed my time. A real speed demon with the perfect layout might be able to do it in 30 mins.

I would figure about an hour per square. That includes time to put down underlayment, drip edge, rake edge, cut shingles at ends, moving shingles to where you need them, etc. Simply laying shingles after all the prep is done is faster, as stated above.

That 7.5 square of 3 tab on a 4/12 pitch roof took me 4 days. I also had a cheap HF gun but did a total tear off and replaced rotted roofing plywood. I had beautiful clear 55 degree days but a 57 year old body.

I'm 43 and starting to slow down some too.

It took me 2 days to haul the osb sheathing up there and nail it down by hand. It was ungodly hot for Maine that weekend too. Mid 80's with upper 80's humidity.

So about the same time wise.

I did about 15sq, 2 hips, 2 valleys, arch'l shingles & ridge cap last spring, good gun.. Shingles on the ground, carried to roof top, took two days, about 14 hrs total. I'm 72!
