Have florescent every time one burns out it's getting replaced with led. The cost of the ballast alone will cover it and they work better in the cold.

Well, I am putting up Costco LED tubes in the new part of my shop. Have also put some in the old part of the shop. Have a few extra T8s but those are destined for the basement back-storage area.

4' T5HO Howard 6 lamp fixtures from Cors lighting ebay with 5K bulbs in new pole barn with 16' ceilings (18 of the in 40X64 on 4 circuits) - They were about $100ea shipped with buldbs. Also doing 4' LED Costco Feits is a space in the basement with 9' ceilings (6 of them) - they are 2 lights for $39.99 online at Costco right now.
I think last 4ft lights I bought I got the balasts and the bulbs separate at
Menards. Maybe Ill start out with the feit led. Iv been changing standard bulbs

~$15 for a basic dual tube T8 fixture at the big box store, and a few more dollars for 2 tubes. ~US$20 per fixture. They have KOs for later hard-wiring, ballasts, and a 6' 5-15 plug.

I have both but the LED's are much brighter and seem unaffected by temperature unlike my old fluorescents. FYI, Sam's Club has the Honeywell 4' LED's for $27 and change each this coming Saturday. I'll be adding 4 more to my shop.

I'd like to use t8 led tubes anyway... If a 4' LED strip goes out for whatever defect it has, I don't want to rip a whole fixture out... having LED tubes sounds much easier to replace defective lights.
Think something like this... If the LEDs or LED driver ever has a problem, I doubt you can source the individual parts cheaper than a whole fixture. Also, the t8 size is a damn common standard, and will work with anything that is labeled T8.

Started looking at 4' led fixtures. Figured I'd need about 12 or 16 for my sq ft area. Decided lt was going cost too much at 40-50 $ a piece. So be about 600- 800$ not adding in receps for each fixture because they come corded. Going to use regular lamp base and use 100w equivalent LED bulbs ( did this in my smaller shop and they look great! 5000k daylight) So cost would be lamp base 4$ each LED bulb 7$ each, so for easy figuring say 12 bucks each, so even if I put up 20 bulbs . 20x 12 = 240 bucks. And down the road if they come out with something new and better it will be easy to upgrade. BCD.

The Feit LED fixtures hang from either 2 screws or 2 small cables they supply. The fixture has a 2 pin male plug + cord on it. So it can be less than a 10 minute job, 5 of which is to find the ladder, without any other tools required.
I got disgruntled with the poor quality T8 ballasts that seem to be out there in "big box light fixtures" with the replacement ballast costing more than a new fixture. I've replaced a large quantity of ballasts where I work as well, these being more "industrial" or higher quality fixtures. Granted, now the direct-wire LED tubes are an attractive option to keep the T8 chassis going but they weren't always available.
The Feits arent totally proven either, if I recall right they talk about 50,000 hr life, if its true, at 10 hrs use per weekend, 50 weekends/year thats 100 year life, or a problem I won't have to worry about again. Even if its half of that, unlikely to be a problem in the future. I have self-submitted to be a guinea pig for validation of the product

Yeah, in a perfect world... Problem is most manufactures overdrive LEDs to get the best bang for the buck to make the light, and the over driven LEDs tend to **** out faster. If I could run all my LED lights at 80%, I bet they would get that 100 year life.

I changed out all of my 4ft florescent in my house to 4ft leds, now I am installing 12 4ft leds in my shop now, tired of having to change bulbs and ballasts in florescent. If I get 5 to 10 yrs out of my leds (since they are not serviceable) I will be happy.

I went to Sam's Club earlier this week to take a closer look at them. Then I read the GJ thread about them and walked away.
When I refurbbed my garage, I switched from 48 T12 fixtures to 8' 4 bulb T8 fixtures and it was alot better. After swapping some T12s for LEDS at the fire house, I bought some T8 LED replacements.
I thought I could do a few at a times but couldn't stand the difference between the two different types of bulbs so I took the leap, anted up and bought enough LEDs to swap out my entire garage. While it cost a small little fortune, I believe it was worth it and am quite happy with the LEDs so far.

The Feit LED shop lights are $19 at Costco right now. I have them in my current shop and am buying some more for my new shop build.
