My fiancee and I relocated to PA last year. We actually closed on our house Christmas Eve day. After a year of permitting reviews for the driveway, rennovations on the 30x40 pole building finally started this spring. Here's what I'm starting with.

The plans are:
1. Install a driveway to get back to the shop.
2. Get electric and water from the house. No sewer, I just want to be able to wash and detail cars down there.
3. Pour concrete floor
4. Finish the interior

Finally I have a place to play with my toys!

Here are some pics of the driveway installation. This is 12' wide from the existing driveway down to the shop. There is a 30'x30' pad in front of the shop for turn around space. Eventually, the gable door will be changed out for two overhead doors. I'm hoping for 12'x12' doors, but I will need to raise the roof on one side. More on that later.

This week, more progress. Trenching for the electrical and water, and excavation for the floor. The previous owner had lights installed in the shop so when we looked at the property I assumed that there was power down here. I failed to notice a pigtail with an extension cord coming out of the light switch. So apparently the previous owner either ran an extension cord down from the house or used a generator to power the lights down here. Now the electrical is done correctly.

The excavation for the floor was finished on Friday. The concrete guys were here today to prep for the concrete. I wish I had the budget for radiant floor heat. Propane forced air will have to do when I get to that point. The forecast is for rain on Thursday so the plan is to make the pour then.

We changed the plan for the floor drain. The original plan was to put a trough drain near the door and run it the width of the garage. I wanted to keep the floor as flat as possible for the planned lift and for pulling engines. The shorter plastic drains running along the length of where the car will be parked and reducing the amount of the floor that will be sloped seemed to be a better solution.

I'm looking forward to getting to the finishing stages after the concrete sets up. I'm tired of hiring out work.

Going to be nice. What are your plans for finishing out the interior? Stud walls with drywall or OSB? Insulation?

I have been finishing out the walls of my shop at the rate of one per year. So far, I have three finished and the ceiling has sprayed closed cell foam. I wall do the final wall this coming Fall and the ceiling in the spring. It is mostly a money thing.

The plan is to insulate then I'm thinking that I will use the corrugated steel like the outside of the building on the interior walls. More just for the ease of installation. There is a local supply house that I can get the finished panels for the interior for less cost than the drywall.

For the insulation, I'm thinking of putting a layer of Tyvek, then styrofoam and then filling the rest of the gap with fiberglass. I'm thinking that I might cover that with OSB before putting up the metal. That way I don't have to think as much about blocking to hang things on the wall at a later date.

For the ceiling insulation, this same supply house has R30 insulation precut to 4' widths to fit between the trusses. So I'm thinking that I can put up one ceiling panel, roll the insulation, then move to the next panel.

The floor is finally done! 4000 psi concrete at 6" thick through the main floor. Two in floor drains to handle any rain or snow run off or a little car washing in a pinch. Now to decide if I want to do an epoxy coat before I move in.

EPOXY FIRST!!!!!!!!! Don't sway, from doing such a good job. Your efforts so far are really good. It will just be a short time extra delay, not much after doing so much! JMHO!

I've been working ... just not as fast as I had hoped.

Foam insulation installed on two walls and studs added. I didn't take pictures of the back wall last night. There will be a loft in the rear: 7' from the floor and about 4.5'x16'. There will be a space so that I can park a car under it. That's why the studs in the last section don't go the whole way to the top of the ceiling.

I'm pushing to do the epoxy over labor day weekend. I want to have everything studded out and hopefully some of the electrical roughed in by then. I won't get to work on it next week at all with business travel and the race weekend in Bristol so the week after will be a hard push.

The garage doors and openers are installed. Now I need to take a break to focus on the AACA Fall Meet at Hershey. I'm the Chief Judge for the meet so if any of you are judging be sure to introduce yourself.

Is that daylight I see at the roof over the big door? Nice shop, I used styro foam insulation between the purlins or the 2 X 6 boards. That stuff sure makes a big difference. What were you going to do on the walls? watching:eyecrazy:

Yes there is a little daylight there. Originally this had a gable sliding door. I left the track from the door up and created a little overhang just to shield the top of the doors since there isn't any eave on the roof. I need to close that off as well as a couple of other very small areas where the previous owner missed with screws or the siding didn't fit as well as is should have.
