Well the title says it all. Tallahassee was an Irma target at one time, but she blinked at the last minute and veered off to the east. All we got was an 18 hour power outage and a few branches in the yard. During that time, we really enjoyed all of my battery powered LED shop lights (CAT standalone light, Porter Cable LED, DeWalt LED) and especially my DeWalt shop radio. The radio was especially handy since it has a USB port for phone charging.

I am glad I added the LED tools because they have been very handy in the shop--the emergency use is just a bonus. With all of the batteries charged up, I think we were prepared for a week or more. I used the outdoor grill once but was limited by the wind and rain. We really missed hot coffee. Now I need to add a small propane camping stove so I can heat coffee water on a covered porch.

With Christmas just around the corner, maybe others can make a gift list that includes LED accessory lights that share tool batteries. It sure beats neckties and socks.

Makita makes a battery coffee maker.

Lol, that's exactly what I was going to say when I read the comment.

OP, there's much to be said about having a substantial collection of battery power equipment in a situation such as this. My wife at times thinks I'm nuts with some of the odds and ends I've added to the emergency kits like solar chargers and battery operated what nots.

Btw, I'm very glad to hear you made it thru the storm without issue. Now go order that makita coffee maker and you'll be all set for the next time :p

Ducks, I don't think the car battery inverter will produce enough amps to run a microwave, at least not the typical ones. They will run a drill motor, but not a 13 amp Skillsaw. And if you do spend the big bucks to get one that will handle 2000 watts, the battery is not gonna be there for you long. You'll have to wait out that solar charger.

Better than nothing. :D

I'm from Tallahassee I lived off Apalachee parkway for many years growing up I miss it I remember going through a couple hurricanes while there also lived in South Florida in a few towns Huricane season is no joke down there that's for sure I need to make an emergency outfit for here as we have to worry about tornadoes now one destroyed 2 towns over took out the whole elementary school even. I regret getting rid of most of my battery powered tools all I got left is a Makita combowith light and a 1/4 snap on impact rest is all pneumatic

Ocala here, we got really lucky too. No power for 22 hours and 3 fence panels blown down. That's it. Most of the town is still without power. Almost makes you feel guilty.

Power went off Sunday night at 6:40 and I fired up the generator. Ran the fridge, an AC window unit, few lights and a fan and a few phone chargers with it and it never missed a beat. Power came back and all is back to normal in my house at least.

Dodged a major bullet.

Everything doesn't have to be new fangled, fancy-schmancy.

My 3K was $130 from Harbor freight. It runs my 15 amp grinder and a 300 watt halogen at the same time. Obviously you'd leave the car running for extended heavy loads.

I live in SW Florida and did the same thing. After multiple batteries running Ryobi radio and Dewalt flashlights during our power outage I don't think I'll be asked why more than one is needed for a while. I was at Home Depot picking up some anchors and saw the Ryobi 110v/18v but it was sold out :(
