I need a replacement dust container/body for my Shop Vac. I haven't found a replacement body for sale. The original body is 100% gone....

I have taken measurements of the opening (15 7/8" internal, 16 9/16" external) (It's round.)

I have thought about a metal garbage can, with a wood bushing to take up the size difference.

What would you do?

What would you build?

Thanks.....

I would look at a site like US Plastics for as close as possible sized bucket. There are lots of hacks out there where people turn 5G buckets into cyclone vacs....... OR keep on eye on CL. LOTS of shop vacs on there.

Thanks for the video, the guy has a pretty funny ending statement.....

"I might ask this thing out on a date."

The ShopVac that I am trying to find a bucket for, is a lot larger (diameter and HP).

It is this one..

I like your wood offset idea, in reality the only thing you need is a sealable holder. The vac does the rest. I saw a shop a few months back with a central shop vac hose system. But the motor was mounted on the wall, and instead of the plastic stock bucket underneath there was a wire frame(kinda like a cooking whisp) with a trash bag over it. That way when it was full they just untie the trash bag and throw it away...so it definetly can be done!

All shop vacs work by pulling a vacuum in the container.
As long as you have a seal between the bottom tank and the disk supporting the motor they will work.

I have seen 5 gal pails, 20 gal oil drums, garbage cans of various sizes and shapes, al the way up to 55 gal drums used.

Use your imagination and some weather stripping foam tape.

I'd like to see a pic of that set up.... any chances of getting one?

A keg is only $30

In my area, to legally get a hold of a keg, you have to go through an in depth application and approval process. And, if you are approved, you can only get "one per year" and it is 3.2%, watered down garbage. I have been told that the deposit on the keg, is $70.

So, kegs are pretty RARE.

I paid $24.00 for the trash can.

O.K.,......

I finished it up, and it works great. I had a half of a tube of Bathtub Silicon left over from another project.....It got put to use.....

I also picked through my "Recycle" Can, and pulled out some aluminum, that I bent, beat, sanded into some "hold down brackets."

Now the whole thing, plywood and all, easily lifts up.....It even seals well... I didn't use any sealer on the can/ plywood joint.

Of course, I had to cut and modify the original brackets, so that it would sit "flat."

I had some extra material, left over from another project, I can't remember the "Thread Count,", but it is a common nylon that was purchased at the sewing supply Store.

I figured in a few extra inches, and sewed in two seams. A simple Desktop/paper stapler, and some creative folds......

Yeah, it is a "Pre-Filter" that stops most of the dust, plus the remainder, easily falls off.

I have been using it for quite some time.....it works well, and keeps the filter from getting clogged up.
