Ok ok. So here’s Christine. The $7000, 28 stitches, sabotaged order picker. Being inoperable and to cheap to pay a wrecker to haul it to the salvage yard….torch time.

With everything removed from around it, I started unbolting what a could. To get the mast off I had to cut the saddle.

Which allowed the three main sections to separate

Because my little tractor has limited lift, each component had to be cut down to bite sizes.

Now sort through what is worth going on the metal rack and what goes to the scrapyard.

Note: hot spatter going up your shorts, or dropping tiny bits of molten shards into your skins makes for an interesting time. That’s what I’m told.

Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse
I did get some good stuff off Christine. The 4 10’ mast beams will be good for a gantry or steel storage rack. The hydraulic unit came out in one piece.

And the 3.8KW drive motor should power an E-bike quite nicely.

Research for my Masters thesis at the North Florida Safety Skool.

I was trying to remove some silicone adhesive from the back of some glass pool tiles. Scraping wasn't really working. Thought maybe a dip in boiling water might soften it up... so... I put a cup of water in the microwave to boil, then dropped a 1" x 2" glass tile into it. Apparently the tile had air bubbles in it; it INSTANTLY exploded and turned the boiling water into a plume of steam- with my right hand directly above it. The microwave contained the steam to make sure i got the full brunt of the explosion. the little glass tile was blown into four pieces, (I found one on the other side of the dining room 20' away.) There was maybe a half-ounce of water left in the glass cup- the rest was vaporized instantly.

(On the bright side, clean-up was a breeze and the inside of the microwave was instantly sanitized for our protection. )

Hand is healing up well. Really glad I was wearing glasses, could have been a lot worse.

Subsequent research revealed that freezing them worked really well., the adhesive scraped right off ..

Yes, his medical plan didn’t allow for painkiller, so had to hold down somehow.

Saturday morning was the biannual clean the whse roof.

Maybe one day, I can hire this task out to someone younger.
Also loaded up the last of the stuff behind the shop. The last load.

I was worn out by 1pm and the oak pollen is bad, I dropped the trailer at the property without unloading.
Today, Rest My *** Time.
Next weekend, the fun begins on the new list of 943 projects. Luckily with the move, the 312 unfinished projects from the old list mysteriously disappeared.

Still tired, still sore from moving the shop. Today was first day of QST, new shop.
Ok, what to do first?
The bottom plate was still in the doorways so cut them out so I could move cabinets around. I set up the hall with the things I had planned. Compressor, stove/paint booth, blast cabinet, wide cabinet and future hardware cabinet.

The green cab had a flat due to improper material handling so this was an unexpected project that needed completing so I didn’t get crushed, I fixed the problem and put on the casters I had planned for it.

The ports-power sure is coming in handy

Set up an area for dust pan, broom and push broom and emptied one tote. . I’m on a roll.
It’s really nice having all my tools here even if I don’t know where some are.

Since there’s things sitting on pallets in the South Bay that will be stored in loft, I decided to prototype the rail and hoist setup.
Everything worked well so tomorrow I’ll get a 10’ stick of Superstrut and grade 8 bolts to finish this project. This will be used to lift low weight totes and boxes to loft. Heavy items go in shipping container.

The hoist is operational and allowed me to unload a little cart with boxes up on to the loft.

Also unload the metal rack and got it in place so the rest of the trailer can be unloaded.

Slow and steady, minor bloodshed.

Chipping away. Hauled stuff to dump. Then worked on bench top. On the front reveal there was a 1/2 turn under that didn’t allow it to fit so a cutoff wheel was deployed. Next was a good degreasing, primer and I painted the front reveal green.
I bolted the cabs together and I put the bench in its final spot. One task was to move the 3 compartment boxes sitting on the cabs. Found a perfect spot in “hallway”

All three are the same width as the brown cabinet. At the warehouse, when I pulled a tray, I never had a good place to set it. Now there’s room.
While I was playing Tetris, everything on the north wall was arranged the way I had planned.

I need to finish the the second circuit feeding half the outlets which will be easier now.
The following items are being temporarily stored out of the way.

Last two things were to functionally set up the oil change station. One of several restoration projects for retirement.

I did a quick degreasing of bench top base and the matching bench so I could store them for possible future use.

What lbs rating is that one? I just went to HFT and bought Big Bertha (2K lbs rating). I had to replace this one which is ~8 years old, and stopped functioning in one direction.




I replaced it yesterday, and returned to seeing what I could do with the old one, and finally got it working but I'm not going to return the new one. Maybe I'll sell the old one on facebook thru my wife's account (I don't 'do' facebook marketplace)

@driftpin I used the smallest, lowest cost one. 440#. I’m limiting the lifts to no more than a hundred pounds.

I do have two safety tips.

1. So not to strain your back, remove the drawers and trays from cabinets BEFORE lifting
2. When drilling small copper items, ensure the item is properly clamped and your hand isn’t on the back side.
