Just catching up on things. Sorry to see the state of your rental. My wife and I have a rental condo in Boulder. Like you said, tenants are a **** shoot. We have had a Professor and his family, Tech Start-Up guy and his 2 kids and both were like Bob and left the place spotless. Jen and I got them each gift cards to The Kitchen (restaurant in Boulder). The ones that were the worst, and trashed the place, were two scientists who worked at NCAR and their son. It was filthy. After that, my Mom moved from Florida to Boulder and we put her in it. She remodeled the place and treats it like her own.

On a happier note... Great job on the MaxJax!!!!!!

Here's the haul. A big thank you to Craig for buying and holding some of the things and for letting me tag along on some sales. Thank you Gerard for the future air tool cabinet and racks for the growing plier collection.

There's a actually a explanation behind that. Say you take a real messy garage or shop. There's just **** everywhere, no organization, no lighting, and no way to move around. Now, say you go in there and with just a small amount of effort you can make a BIG difference. You take my place that has been worked over and rearranged now countless times and it takes a lot of work to see a small improvement. Those small improvements do make a difference but it's not as dramatic.

Yes, I am slow to update. I did make some progress this weekend. I got the tools purchases from a few weeks ago put away and with the aid of the "plier" rack I got from Gerard, I tried out the plier organization tip. Looks like a need another drawer.

My Tahoe also developed a leak in the right rear quarter. Checking with a water hose, the leak appeared to be under a plastic trim piece that is also some sort of vent.
NOTE to self: a reason to have some cheap tools. A regular socket wouldn't fit on one of the screw head so grinding down an import socket, I was able to remove the screw.

The body sealer underneath looked dried out so I added some caulk. The next day we had some rain and I still have a leak. I guess I will need to pull the interior to find the exact location. One step forward, three steps…..

Been chasing one in theback of my mega cab for a couples years off and on.

I was also able to spend a little time on the MaxJax. I moved the lift so I could see how the anchors held. Looks good. When putting the lift back in place and leveling, I noticed a gap on the inside face of driver side pad. Looking through the scrap pile, I found a suitable piece of angle to use as a shim. I little time PAINTING and bam! I now have a good looking shim.

Something of concern is when torquing the bolts on the driver side seem to have some issues. Ummmm, I need to investigate closer because I've had enough accidents for the decade. The second picture is those anchors, which shows a couple near the top, those might be turning when I'm tightening the bolts. Ugh, I hate thin concrete.

Another Gerard (Taumac) inspired project is to use a AV cart as the basis of a welding cart. In a previous post, you saw that my cart is an antique stocking cart, a top box toolbox sans lid and the welder. It works but I'm not in love with it.
With Craigs (CBacres) enabling, I was directed to a gov. auction site and found a hand full of AV carts being auctioned. Score!!! I placed a bid that included a metal cart and a plastic cart with a metal lock box. For $15, I was happy until….


Went to get the carts and instead of standard carts, these things are Paul Bunyon carts. Luckily the plastic one came apart and I was able to remove the pneumatic casters of the metal one and get them loaded. Just one of the these casters is worth $15 and both carts are configured to use them.
Now I have to mock up the welding cart to see what cart I will use and what mods will be needed. Add another project to the list.

Last weekend was spent in St. Augustine celebrating my wife's birthday. Great trip; relaxing and rejuvenating. This weekend started off with a couple of honey do's. The patio screen was punched out from when our dog was a puppy, enhance the lattice. I've done screen once before and was dreading this project but turned out quite easy. I replaced the lower section and the lower section in the screen door. I used some WD40 to clean the spline and make it insert better. I also hung some souvenirs from our St. Augustine trip.

After the honey do's, it was shop time. On the way to the shop, I decided to stop at the Grand Opening of the motorcycle shop that just relocated to my side of town. While there, I ran into a coworker that also rides and he brought up my previous bike, a 95 Honda Magna. I sold it in 2005 after getting my Valkyrie. I really loved that bike even though it looked like I was riding a kids bike. We walk outside and I immediately spot a yellow bike that looks like my old Magna. Upon further inspection and talking with the owner, it was my old bike. I've been on some great rides with this bike.

edit: found this picture of a 2004 trip to Deal's Gap, NC to ride the Tail of the Dragon. The Valkyrie Interstate I have now is like the bike on the far left. Six cylinders of hot rod fun and comfort.

At the shop, it was time to move some swap meet sale items back to the loft until the next swap meet. It was nice having the walk ways cleared. While putting things up I tried out the found table legs on the piece of grate I've been saving for 10 yrs. This will be a portable grinding, welding and plasma (future purchase) table. The legs fit perfect so coming up with a way to attach them will be added to the long to-do list. See I'm trying to stay focus on the priorities.

Another clean up/quickie project was hanging the cabinet that Gerard so kindly provided when we were at the Florida meet up. While getting the screen, I decided the cabinet needed some bling so I also purchased a chrome knob. This will be used to hold air gauges, value stem tools, etc. Again, focusing on priority projects, no paint until later. Thanks Gerard for the unpainted cabinet.

The last quickie project was to mock up the new welding cart. Since the smaller AV cart is plastic, I'm going to use the metal cart. The downside is, this thing is huge and I want it to fit under my bench. I did the mock up so I can verify I will use this cart and to see where I will have to section it. I decided on this layout. With a piece of plywood under the welder, the side door clears the lip on the cart. I plan on cutting a hole in the middle shelf so the tank stands vertically. I need to section 4" inches out of the vertical supports and about 12-15" out of the shelves. I will trade out the pneumatic tires with the casters that came off the tool cabinet. I think I can trim the top of the tool box (part of the existing weld cart) so it will fit on the lower shelf.
I will mark where the cuts will be and then put the AV cart in the loft as a later project.

Seems like a theme is developing here.

Oops did forget one more thing. As part of the storing stuff, I put the shelves in the last tall cabinet. With this done, I have a lot more room and can start organizing the cabinets by function.

Shorty, if you cut the mock up welding cart, how are you going to weld it back together if you have a cut up welding cart?

Sounds like you need to buy a second welder to weld the welding cart.

I agree, I put my welder on my little gray cart while cutting up old and working on the new one. I can't weld up new welding cart without a current welding cart. Right?

You just have to have a cart to hold the welder. Sounds like you also need to buy a second welder. Go ahead, I know you will, tell your wife the Craig said you need this, I haven't been blamed for anything since the DP

Welder is staying on current stocking cart turned welding cart. Plus I might carry it to Lee County and have new cart cut and welded.

My goal is to have the bottle inside the frame of the cart and where the gauges are readible from the front of the welder. I forget to turn on gas sometimes.

Please don't listen to Curly and Larry from down south. The lift is operational, I just want to be 100% that everything is safe. A part of that is having the mid-height jack stands for front and rear. Thank you, I do need behavior modification sometimes.
