Please don't listen to Curly and Larry from down south. :D The lift is operational, I just want to be 100% that everything is safe. A part of that is having the mid-height jack stands for front and rear. Thank you, I do need behavior modification sometimes.

Who is Curly and Larry:D

Just stand back when you lift, if car don't fall off or over, sounds like sucess. It's not like your picking up a 750lb battery

Shorty, I used to think I needed a 4-post lift (4 cars/3 car garage=driveway bay). I knew it would be work to assemble it and get it working but I didn't know it came with so many accessories:

  • Bowl of Grief Soup,
  • Plate of Well-Done Nag
  • 12-inch Sh!t Sandwich

I can handle the grief and have learned to love the nag but I'm on the wrong side of the sandwich rule so I think I'll forget about the lift. The sandwich rule is "Life is a sh!t sandwich and the more bread you have, the less sh!t you have to eat." I have enough bread to make a nice open-face sandwich but it only emphasizes how much sh!t I have to eat.

Gerard, just tellin' it like it is.
Ditto on Gerard comment. Bob you are on of the best we have here. Don't stop.
Dan, I have this knack for getting into trouble and I just can't help myself. My father used to smack me on the back of my head and I'd ask "What was that for?" and he'd say "That's for doing nothing so don't do anything." and I'm still ducking.
Bob, Robin's mad at you now. I just spit food all over her laptop screen.
Kirk, the back of my head is stinging! :bitchslap
Oh ****! What happened to Life is a bowl of cherries! :scared:
OK Stewart, so you were enjoying a bowl of cherries when that battery squashed your leg? :rolleyes2

That's why I like working with steel - measure twice, cut once...

...if it's still too long, cut a bit off...

...if it's too short, weld a bit on.

Try doing that with a 2x4. :lol_hitti

Made it through Hurricane Hermine without fanfare. We are on our second night without power. I have a generator that hasn't ran in 11+ yrs but when I put some gas in, it fired up. Gotta love a Honda.

Yesterday most everything was closed. Sun was out making hotter than most would like. Trees down along without powerlines. Today was much better with an overcast day and more gas stations were open along with grocery and Lowes/Home Depot. Today I spent building power cable to directly hook the generator to the main panel. Nice having some lights and TV to go with keeping frig running. Thankfully we have a gas water heater and stove so showers and cooking is readily available.

We will probably be in camping mode for a day or two more.

Glad to hear you made it through the storm. A word of advice, run the genny once in a while. Not for the engine, but for the magnets. And don't throw it away if it runs but doesn't produce. They're easy to remagnetize.

Thanks and thanks for the heads up. I must admit I've been lax after going through numerous hurricanes and bad storms and had been on the luck side. This one is an eye opener.

Glad you didn't sustain any major damage Shorty. All I want to do is get your lift up and running, I didn't want to have to rebuild your garage before I did that.:D

Glad to hear that you weathered the storm OK Shorty.

What Mark said.

Our news has broadcast quite a fair bit of your storms..

Shorty

Glad to hear everything is OK. I was getting worried there for a bit..... :dunno:

I'm so traumatized. Please help me......get the lift up. :willy_nil

Thank you all for checking in. I have a portable room air conditioner I got to use one day at the shop. Brought it home yesterday evening. Scored me some serious brownie points. :D. I'm alternating the frig and AC and it's working out.
According to this map my neighborhood has power. NOT! They're others without power whereas the map shows differently. Our city government is known for being liars, so this is another example.

My apologies for being away for a while. Most of my shop time the last two weekends has been getting the hurricane equipment back to the shop, cleaning the generator and prepping it for short term storage. I also had to do some plumbing on the rental and lay some VCT tile. I've also been trying to clean up things in general.
One little project I experimented on was a handle for this heavy **** generator. Of course, being a member of GJ now, a simple handle won't do so the brain went into overdrive trying to devise something worthy. Somehow the light bulb went off and I came up with a revolutionary solution (pic. 1) :dunno:
Hey it works but it isn't GJ worth so let's look in the scrap pile. I found this camera tripod and liked the extendable legs. Let's try it. (pic. 2) Great in theory but the smaller leg extensions easily flexed.
Still not happy I looked in the other scrap pile and found this pipe. There was something attached to it that I wanted and this piece went into the recycle pile. I will weld a simple strap to extend the end around the frame and a crossbar (black line) to stop the handle from rotating up past horizontal. A little sanding and paint, GJ worthy and functional handle. ;)

Friday was spent going to see an Air Force buddy that was working in S. Georgia and ended up in the hospital. On the way, I had time to spare so drove through one of the small towns that I've never been through. I saw a used item store so thought I would check it out. Thanks to Mr. Enabler 1 & 2, I found this Craftsman tool box. Immediately a better plumbing tool box came to mind. I also talked the owner into including the Knipex pliers (my first pair). Most of the tools are Chinese but I did find about 10 useable US made things.
Normally, I would have blown out the dust, wiped it down and put it in service. For some reason, I decided a quick paint job was in order. I guess Gerard is rubbing off on me. :p
After a basic sanding, I sprayed some self-etching primer, high performance silver enamel and the bottom was sprayed with some bed liner. Not bad for a quick job!

I also decided to work on the other elephant in the shop (first elephant being Christine the order picker). I recently had the carbs rebuilt but the mechanic didn't replace the 16 yr old fuel lines so I ended up with a fuel leak (my typical luck). To get to the fuel hose, the large 6 gal. fuel tank and air box has to be removed. Parts will be here tomorrow so hopefully I will be able to enjoy a nice ride this weekend.

Glad to see you are back to it shorty. That toolbox resto looks great.

Don't you hate when common sense fails. I had my truck suspension done a while back - but they didn't think to do a full bushing kit at the time either while everything would have been off, so now I need to do it.

Hope you get a ride in.

Shorty, you got me thinking about enablers 1&2, it appears you bought the CM box on a whim, just because, with no prodding from G(1) and myself (2)........
Gerard, we did it,:rocker::rocker: with our constant sending ads, listings, pointing out deals, you should buy this, that. We've enabled him to buy and not even be there. We've turned Shorty into a buyer of things he didn't know he needed, things he didn't know existed, onto multiple pairs of pliers to fill his new made plier racks:lol_hitti.

Shorty, your on your way to having even a emptier wallet than before, a true GJ trademark:lol_hitti:beer:.

Can't wait for us to meet up at Flywheelers flea market, you can buy some mates for your Diamond brand pliers, your not allowed to have just one.

Now, you must go forth and enable someone, you know, play it ahead.

I'm trying to get back at it. The bushings sounds like something that happen to me. Had my motor rebuilt in 1984 and when they put it back in the car, they used the factory 1967 heater hose; Luckily I made the 900 mile trip back to my base before the hose split.

Yes, Enabler 1 & 2 have been good Masters, maybe to good. Some other Florida members along with numerous GJ members have been good associate Masters. It's ok, the bill is in the mail.

I hope everyone will be able to make it to Flywheelers. Seems like a cool place with nice tools and machinery on display.

p.s. A friend just got a golf cart so I'm trying to butter him up.

It might be easier just to rent one. I think Craig checked into it and it was $100 for the day. So if we can spilt it 4 ways it's be worth it.
