Wrapped the day up by unwrapping and rolling lathe in place. 09030297c62ab1d22f93f74f82e1d59f.jpg all three tools are new to me thanks to the FC enablers. I forgot but I did get the wiring finished on sander. Works great. I do need to separate the dusty tools (sander, grinders) from the lathe.

Lathe looks great!

If I can get that car primed, I can start casting and turning.

Hey, I can see some floor space showing ! Good progress, Shorty. Where's your first aid kit ?

Oh that’s because I swept up 4 yrs of dust and dirt. I’d have more space if someone soon to be new to Tallahassee would take some stationary tools off my hands. lol.

Well done getting the lathe in place without any injury Shorty.
Now you just need to do something about all the sharp objects - have you considered heat-shrink tubing on all the blades?

Thanks. Safety first is my motto of course. Heat shrink is a great idea. I have some plastic dip that might work also.

Fixed it for you.

Just so long the lathe is fine!:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:beer::beer:

Hope the plastic cocoon kept it safe.

Lathe is fine. Plastic wrap did great. Plastic wrap and duck tape make for a great way to transport in an open trailer.

Looks like it will be a nice addition to the shed.

I think it will. Hopefully it gets me motivated to finish project 3-251 so I can play.

Shorty's Shed, huh? More like Shorty's Uptown Shop O'tools.

Uptown? You live uptown. I’m just lowly east side. lol. I’m having a sell and I notice some free space in your garage the last time over.

I picked up something for Shorty this pass Friday. I doubt hear shrink is going help when drops this on his foot. I post item but I’m sure it will be topic of a safety tip.

Might be a little longer before I get there. Buyers backed out.

Safety first or blood lust?

I have added a few more projects to my list, but I did get rid of some as well, so it all balances out in the end, right? ;)

Here you go Shorty, I found a great addition to your arsenal.
0f94f775ea1ffd984a3862afdfa3fe78.jpg

I know with that female leg, your not even seeing the bandage kit.

Should save you a few trips to the urgent care. You might want to go ahead and order some refills now seeing you still have the battery.

You mention using a plasma cutter, so here’s an accessory for it:

Maybe get come in handy heating the heat shrink on your sharpe stuff.

All in fun and we care about you.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:beer::beer:

By the way, I know why you left the rest of your beer at my place, must of been out of date.:shocking:

Shorty, this Michael guy is headed your way and I think he wants to hurt you and your neighbors. Do what you have to to stay safe. He might be one of those gang members that picks up cars and throws them around so if the MB is covered, you might be able to claim he blew the paint off the car or filled it with water.

Hey Bro. All joking aside. Take care of yourself and Vickie for the next few days. Let's keep the humor going but not lose track of the important stuff.

Hey Shorty, there appears to be some nasty weather headed your way.
Hopefully it'll lose some intensity before it reaches Tallahassee - stay safe.

I have just thought about the irony of telling Shorty to "stay safe"...

Shorty, maybe you should leave now. :)

Say!
That lathe looks awfully familiar!
This one was built in 1984 and has been in my college shop since new. Not a lot of hours, but a bit of student abuse, for sure. Still a nice little lathe.

Did you get the tailstock with yours?

Edit: And be safe! Michael looks mean!

First, thank you all for your concern. Luckily for Tallahassee, things were more like a strong tropical storm. We lost power for a day (Mayor is running for Governor) Texted Jim Reed and he’s still with power so I’m hoping that changes quickly.

Craig, send those bandages, along with the nurse of course. I haven’t played doctor in forever and I have these things collecting dust.

Safety First right!

For cleaning the lathe, I just learned you can use a pressure washer. Wish I had put the lathe outside during Michael, I could have saved water and gas.

Buffet fan, me too. One of the first concerts I went to. A lot of Partotheads in my neck of the woods. Enjoy his books also.

Nice lathe. Mine is stamp 11/1983 so very close in age. Is there any chance a manual is available with yours? I’m a newbie to lathes, so need any help I can get and a copy would be appreciated.

Tail stock? You need one of those? Lol. I took it off for transport. It also came with a steady rest, 4 jaw, live center, Jacobs chuck, tombstone and square tool holders.
I have several other pending projects to finish before I can start setting up and playing with the lathe. I’m thinking I could make everyone washers for Christmas.

No damage other than some warm beers. Good news Shorty!

Be careful with the pressure washer on the lathe. Unless you are doing a complete rebuild you may get water into expensive headstock bearings and other places where it will pool and rust things. If I recall that gearbox has oil in it and the top lifts up so not sealed. Same with the saddle gearbox which is partially open in the back. Next I'd be worried getting water in the motor too.

It's been forever since I played doctor.

Neighbor girl asked if I wanted to play doctor when we were about ten.

I said sure.

After waiting two hours in her waiting room I went and found a ball game.

Using the pressure washer, my attempt at comedy. I’ve send some long industrial lathe I could see using a pressure washer for the bed only. The lathe was super clean but I sprayed some type of protectant on it since I didn’t know what kind of weather it would face before getting it home.

Andy, that’s about the same age for me too. Luckily I turned 12 last week. Tip of the day, you were suppose to be the doctor. lol.

shortykorte,

Glad to hear that things were not too bad in your part of the world.

Best regards,

Scott

Thanks Scott. The more news and conversations I hear of, Michael took a toll on the counties just west of Tallahassee. A lot of small towns that won’t make the news are completely devastated.

Shorty, Glad to hear from you and that you came through alright.
I'll take a look through the archives. I may well have a manual for the lathe and would be happy to send you a copy if I find it.
This one has all of the attachments as well, some of them look like they haven't been used.
Yet.
I'm trying to talk the powers that be into selling me this one. It would fit in my garage very nicely.

I've been to a few Buffett concerts, always a good time, but the parking lot party before the show is usually the best part!
I hope to be a Floridian Parrrothead at some point soon!

After some sleepless nights, I was able to sleep in today. I want to work at the shop but decided to finish up some honey do’s. For those that remember, our third bedroom is my wife’s closet. She was able to get a talented lady to come in an organized it and suggest a few projects (for me) First Up was a shelf unit. Thought it was going to be difficult but turned out easy. 74eb232e7f9a2d3f1071fe03b46e5276.jpg
Second was some additional shoe shelves. Darn those stilettos are sharp. b82388af640ce89a6e7c28d09614a91a.jpg
All the shelves were adjusted for a bet fit and I arranged the shoes. Just like setting up a toolbox. Lol.
dd29f14f05cf9067f1fb4330d1554c60.jpg
She’s happy!!! Wonder if I can get her to wear the stilettos tonight?

I appreciate you looking. It would be great if you could get the lathe. Seems like a nice size for home.

I bet a pre-concert tailgate would be fun. All the smoke, cheeseburgers and margaritas you could want. lol.

you know how's there's a page on FB where people can check in to let others know they're safe?

We should start one on GJ. That way we'll know that your OK Shorty, or at least something a bandaid will cover.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

PS, the nurse is busy taking care of me down here.
