While the paint dried, I tried out some Boeshield I brought at an estate sale. 60 seconds and light rub with a Scotchbrite, really cleaned the brake up.

Hi Shorty. Just catching up on threads. Glad to see you're still at it.

I almost bought some of that Boeshield a while back and then, well, I forgot about it. But it looks like I need to get it on my shopping list... my old lathe is in dire need!! Thanks for the reminder.

The workspace is looking great... everything very handy!! Keep up the good work.

Thank you for calling. There’s no one home. Shorty has decided to take his Florida Safety shoes and quarantine in Ibiza.

What! Someone stole my idea for proper footwear. Fo’ shame.

Duker, thank you for setting up a Go Fund Me. I’ll finally fulfill my dream.

Thank you all for dusting off the thread’s cobwebs

Catching up on the last several months. First off had a surprise visit on Valentines Day. fc4bcbc0eea06ea00ed5a7dc334e3cf5.jpg
After a shop tour, Andy, Jim, John broke bread over some tasty BBQ. Who knew one would be able meet good people in a virtual world then meet them in person and know you’ve made great friends.

A weekend in January and February was spent at down at Flywheelers trying to sell, sell, sell. 82e08707b3bb95e71726ec9f08d9903e.jpg
Ended up with some notable Youtubers all stop at our spot at the same time. You’d think they’d buy something. Always an enjoyable time at Flywheelers, talking to people and meeting GJ members.

On the home front been focused on the house than the shop. Gotta keep momma happy. Did get one shop surprise. I was contacted by fellow land/business owners about joining forces in getting our drive repaved. Some quite clean up of my parking area and a check, I know have this. e4209df96602148163956075ee3ad5e6.jpg
I was able to end up with 5’ wider parking area. It is really nice having fresh asphalt drive and parking area.
Speaking of parking, Tallahassee thinks 3 to 17’ long driveways are in the best interest of the homeowners. Unlike the Tahoe, the pick up fits with a half inch to spare. Wait, make that 1-1/2” to spare after a little garage door adjustment with the hitch.
My solution was move the fence back and installed a gravel parking pad. A lot of work, but we like it. ce7acc470e81072d509a62d00fed8247.jpg

After that was completed, I started back on the table saw bench 3b6ab7abdee3b5b47bfc56377617c32c.jpg
and turning our side yard into our little oasis. Unfortunately it includes having to mitigate drainage between our houses. 7a526edd19a1fe8aa66d2f4f27ab4ed8.jpgf972c6ff4ce7d511d6124d41772a59de.jpg hopefully the yard project gets done soon so I can get some QST.

One of these years, I'm going to make it to one of those Flywheeler's shows... I'm sure there's lot to see and buy. And who knows, I might even run in to someone i know selling stuff!

Those French drains are a pain to install and get set right so they flow properly. But they DO work nicely. I pissed off a whole herd of frogs the year I installed them at the last house. I live on a pretty good slope of land right now so it hadn't been a problem so far at the new house.

Keep up the good work!

Did you sell much? Skip bang engines?

I sold some things that were taking up space. We didn’t have any skip bang engines but there’s quite a few there. Craig had all the good stuff and did really well.

You’re notable in that you had an opportunity to sell Mr. Pete something but didn’t.

Thanks for stopping in Mark. Flywheelers is definitely a do at least once affair. Lots to see and when you have a space, definitely get to meet people.

To get some QST today, the boss said I had to GTDGD (get the damn garden done) so I worked on the garden Thursday and Friday after work.
I decided to replace the round drop inlet with a flow-through square one 78b72bdd8b38455a32c3b8c06cbe2c54.jpg
and moved the round one outside the fence where water run off will hit it first. Today’s rain verified all is well.
The garden is getting there. 3582600d2954574d7e9bfce1f6cbaa4b.jpg

Let’s start the day with a Safety lesson. When you install a ceiling fan above your bench and need to crawl over said bench, don’t stand up...unless you need a haircut. 🤬

First task of the day was getting the bench top mounted to table saw bench. I used inserts in the plywood tops so I could use existing holes in saw top. My DIY insert tool. 5f7ab1779286967d675e22ff5a6416cd.jpg
Well that worked out great.
22d343e0996d97d68ac53795df82153e.jpg
I didn’t mark the location of the holes on the long side and instead of measuring I decided to make a little transfer punch. Being a tight space I used one of the original bolts. Lathe time. 10f8cd5691f2a95c16deb7f64308bd5f.jpg35a8852bfe9fcf8634645ee62aa2ba4d.jpg that did the job. The finished bench top. 19a44020650afc0b07377f893bc73063.jpg
Next up was dust collection. Of course I didn’t design bench for this. I had to hack the middle shelf so vacuum and dust collector would fit. 7112e6b18203fdefe6d64d680205af2b.jpg More whittling and they fit. a6d5adc8662157799fb5978108535b5d.jpg Still have to get onboard electric, finish off dust collection and seal the top.

Something that’s been nagging me is the two green Listas and the floor space they’ve been taking up. 11c91e787ca56f44ee16642ea70c9441.jpg To fit under the metal bench the casters have to come off. Mezzanine crane to the rescue to get the heavy **** cab safely on its side. With the casters gone, there was a quarter inch to spare when pushing cab under. a8afd00d594a0b6faec0adead13f9625.jpg
I will use this cab for measuring tools and all the lathe tooling. I will need to remove this cross brace. 7dab60a6f5467c988b6344b6949f5af1.jpg

Looks like a good fit. Not sure I'd like to be bending over to get my lathe tooling, but a good use of wasted space.

And you gotta remember Shorty is like 7’ tall or so.

Two things:

It’ll take him so long bending over he’ll forget what he was after.

Can you imagine him doubled over getting in that second drawer?:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Remember years ago when you drooled over and coveted these cabs when at my place? Geez, now there taking up space.:lol_hitti

Looking good Shorty, nice to make space in the shop.

You could just store valuable stuff in the drawer behind the brace, great security!:bounce:

First time I have commented on your garage, but in just looking at the bench and the Lista under it, I'd be tempted to weld the Lista to the bench making the whole thing movable. I'd cut the horizontal brace to the width of the cabinet and weld it to the sides of the Lista for stability. Weld the top to the cross brace at the front and use angle to attach the back to the rear of the bench.

Shorty, you have been busy! Did you or your wife pick out the pink flamingo :pimpflash

Where did you get that 5 gallon topper for the dust collector bucket?

Looking at the forecast, there is plenty of "testing" coming up!

I like those custom made transfer punches... need to remember that next time I'm trying to transfer the center of a threaded hole. Thanks.

Like I used to do when I added the annex at my shop.
Sit with a beer and watch how the water flowed.
Very rewarding!

The cab is 39.5” tall so not to bad. I imagine the top three drawers will be the go-to drawers and the others for lesser used or bulky items. Plus I can practice deep knee bends. 🤣

And you gotta remember Shorty is like 7’ tall or so.

So what were we talking about?🤪
Well if someone would have got the cabs all gussied up, I wouldn’t be complaining. The drawer behind the brace will house al my 10mm tools.

Thanks for following along and commenting. I did draw up a quick sketch where cabs could be suspended from bench top. If you’ve been following along for a while, this project would put me over the 1K mark. Yikes. The plan is to do a makeover on bench at a later time. I will add some corner gussets and support wedges on cab top before removing the cross brace.

For sure. Left my wheelbarrow out the last two days and it’s completely full, 6 cubic feet in just under 48 hrs.
I have the regular transfer punches but only had about 3” to play with. GJ is paying off teaching me there’s always another way to accomplish a task.
