Should I buy Capri and tekton?

Hey ladies and gents, I’m super new here, so what’s up to everyone!

I have been debating back and forth between tool brands. I’m more of a home garage guy and by no means a professional mechanic. I own a couple tool truck items like sockets from snap on and a set of flex head ratcheting wrenches from matco. I have been looking at buying a big lot of tekton and Capri tools but idk how the quality would compare to snap on and such. Has anyone had any long term experience with either? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not a pro either. Most of my stuff's old, USA made Craftsman, which has and still does serve me well. Did pick up Tekton 3/8 and 1/4 inch drive socket sets, mainly because of no skipped sizes. So far so good. Scored a set of Capri Wave Drive SAE combos last year on the strength of Project Farm's video. Haven't had a chance to use them much, so the jury's still out. Which brand is better? For what the OP's going to do, either one.

Tekton has held up to the animals in my auto class I teach, the sockets and ratchets have been solid. The one weak tool is the needle nose pliers, we have warrantied like 4 of those in the past 3 years. Warranty is EASY, send a pic and new ones are on their way arriving in about 2 to 3 days.
I personally own lots of Snap On, but Tekton has been great for the class tools!

Of the Taiwan brands I've been most impressed with Sunex, their sockets specifically. You could go for one brand, or if you have the time research who stands out for each tool type
I like Sunex but only really sockets, they're not really a Taiwan brand anymore. Their wrenches, which are from India, are hot garbage.

That all being said, Tekton is okay so long as you only need bare bones. Capri, along with Astro, are my favorite mid tier brands.

I called snap on to get their opinion and they say you are best off buying snap on.

I have always heard good things about teckton.
Loook at the customer service and judge from there. Also take a look at some of the other brands that snap on owns, some of those you can buy from amazon for reasonable cost and some of the ratchets it has been shown have the same snap on guts or sometimes they are using the old design with the lesser brand name at a lesser price

I use Tekton and Capri tools in a professional setting daily. To me, Tekton has a much wider range of sockets and wrenches than Capri. I think both brands will serve you well. If ordering from either brand's website will enable you to get rewards points that spend like cash on future orders and free shipping on orders over $25 for Tekton and $50 for Capri. I would give the edge to Tekton for having a larger lineup but, I feel Capri offers some excellent bit socket sets. Pick out the gems from both brands

I have quite a bit of both. Good, no frills tools, for the most part. I tend to prefer Tekton but I like everything I have from Capri and will buy more as time goes by. Both good choices for the home game.

I don't really think there's a mistake to be made between the two. Having had wrenches and ratchets and experiencing their customer service, they're easy to recommend.

Their ratchets are utter and complete garbage. Nice handle, truly terrible mechanism that is highly prone to self-switching. The chrome sockets that the ratchets came with are OK, but not better than Tekton or Quinn.

Their impact sockets are outstanding. I love my Sunex sockets. I regret that resulting in the ratchets and chrome sockets.

Tekton makes a good tool. Just picked up a 1/4” deep/shallow, SAE/metric set for $67. Very nice set for the price of 3-4 Snap On sockets.
I would like if Tekton offers a few more tools. I haven’t found 6 point combination wrenches or stubby flex ratcheting wrenches.

Yes as far as sockets, bit sockets, and maybe ratchets. I have stuff by both, including ratchets, and for the $ it's awesome. For ratchets, also look at Gearwrench 90T; also look at Sunex for impact sockets. For pliers, Knipex is worth the premium.

Tekton is fine, Capri is fine. Both of these companies took advantage of the vacuum left by Craftsman when Sears folded. I fought tooth and nail to get TOPTUL to fill this void as I consider TOPTUL superior to both (except for their ratchets which aren't that great) but TOPTUL didn't have the balls to get serious in the American market. A great opportunity lost but Tekton and Capri are very good tools for reasonable prices.

I saw that same project farm video, that’s how I heard of them haha. Thanks for the reply

Thanks! I picked up a set of Sunex 1/2inch shallow and deep metric impact sockets a few weeks ago, can’t beat that price on Amazon. Also the Knipex set on Amazon has a pair of needle, lineman, side cutter, and water pump pliers on sale for 98 bucks right now. I think I’ll snag them

Both brands excel in certain areas, but not all.
For example, with ratcheting wrenches I’d consider Icon instead.

I have a Capri torque screw driver, seems good and wouldn't hesitate to get more Capri, I have been using mainly Tekton for some time now. I also second Knipex pliers, I got the 3 piece set of Kobras on Amazon as well as their snap ring pliers.
One other thing, I got some Malco Eagle Grip locking pliers on amazon, I understand they are not making them more, but they are by far the best pair of locking pliers I have seen.

I have tried to push the "buy" button on Capri and Tekton several times now, but I just can't do it. I have absolutely zero reason to doubt they are anything but just fine. I do have some of the US made Tekton hard handle screwdrivers that I like very much...for ratchets, sockets, and wrenches they simply don't blow my skirt up.

I'm not saying their stuff is the greatest, but if you've never used it, I'm not sure how it could "blow your skirt up" from the online image. The Tekton and Capri 90T ratchets are very good, sockets and bit sockets are very good... It's very rare to find anyone here that has anything bad to say about Tekton or Capri ratchets, sockets or bit sockets; and I'm not sure where you'd find a more critical audience than here- where Craftsman, SK (even the USA stuff), Wiha.... all ***** to a vocal minority.

I do have a couple of end wrenches from both makers and a socket or two from Tekton. None of them give me anything close to a "Wow." I have not played with either of their ratchets, but I am pretty well devoted to Matco and Snap-On in that category.

I did have have to fill some empty socket drawer space with something cheaper than truck brand or Williams a while back, and had every single intention of buying Tekton. I ended up with Icon for some of them because they matched the Snap-Ons already in the drawer and Gearwrench for the balance. For some reason I feel better about Gearwrench than Tekton or Capri for sockets...and I have zero data to back that up.

Do small tool importers, which are primarily warehouse and marketing teams, add value to the tools?

To answer your question: NO :spit: :spit:

Why not?

I have some Capri 3/8 shallow impacts that work fine. I have tekton things too, all work decently. Tekton wrenches IMO are just okay. The Capri air tools look like over priced Astro.

No it's not premium stuff, but the sockets certainly work. I certainly prefer Snap On, Koken, Williams, SK, etc. But that's not even in the same ball park of price.

Obviously because people should buy Snap On sockets, adapters.... and extensions at 8X the Tekton price . Because that's a logical use of your $, especially for a home user, even though people here use Capri and Tekton sockets professionally, every day, and almost never have anything bad to say.

Both the Capri and Tekton bit sockets are awesome for the $ IMO. Yes, their sockets are excellent also, but I have been super impressed with the durability of the bit sockets, including Tekton (impacts) under impact use.

Tekton is based in Michigan. Most things are contracted from vendors in the far east. They have been for awhile making tools here in Michigan. I just ordered up a couple more socket sets in the 12 point variety. Ordered last nite, be here Saturday. Hard to beat that. Plus the warranty.
