North: if I ever do get to Parksville to pick up my new trailer I might bring a big old MADE IN USA vise to replace your PW doorstop if you might like to trade. looks like a good size for me. i'm not quite anviless in Seattle, but could use a decent old PW cause the ones I had escaped to others who needed to use them more than I do.

Coincidentally MY first anvil was also a P W. Just a few pounds heavier than yours.

Your hardie hole looks truer than mine. I had to file it out square to accept my 1.25 inch tool shanks.

I’ll keep my eyes open for one for you, although they rarely come up in this area.

I found this ten pound No.11 Record anvil last week. I hardie-staked it to get it at a usable height for gentle forming jobs.

Lis: I do have a couple small anvils like that and never thought of making a hardy platform for one. did you think of that on your own or did you maybe copy somebody's? in any case I always enjoy seeing what you do with your skills!!

Was trying to post some pictures of the black smith tools but I am not able somehow to make it work
Found two anvils under the hay in a large barn on our property. one says Hay Bud or so and one has a C in a circle on the side and then there was a tall tapered type of anvil, one hunk of metal with many depressions in it
and there were many tools and other anvils as well.
I am not sure what I want to do with it. Set up a shop perhaps

Start from the "Go Advanced" posting menus, or the "Post Reply" button near the bottom of any page, (Or hit the "paperclip" button to get to the upload popup); and at step 5 copy it into the URL field after hitting the "postcard" button: (Step 4/5 is optional; you will still have thumbnails)

Works fine until the last step 5 where the menu does not come up to finish loading the pic. I see the pic link and when clicking on it shows but it does not transfer to the reply box.

MB: i've always used the paperclip method (see it just above where you are writing your posts?). click on it and a download pop up will let you browse and download pics sort of like attaching a picture to an email. Outlaw's method usually works cause he's copied that from another part of GJ and shows it to members often.

Lis: new members used to need 100 posts to post in classifieds to avoid the spamming new member thing, but I think that has even changed too. New members can post a pic on their first post if they'd like to so that shouldn't be an issue. i hear there is something new maybe an App or something that is causing some members issues like Tapatalk did for a while, but I still use the paperclip method cause I stopped using Photobucket big pics a month or two after I joined.

have you had a chance to use your new little ANVIL HARDY piece yet or was it just a fun project to do and have for something down the road?

It dose not "auto copy". it just copies it to the "clipboard"

After the Copy, click on the post card and paste, then hit OK it will place where the cursor is.

The best it will do is show the above when clicking the paper clip on the last step. The paper clip shows the file as Jmg_0001.jpg so maybe there is something wrong with it. I may take it to Bestbuy to see if they can help me

I picked up an unusual one a while ago.

It appears to be an Attwood, it has a bit of a tilt to it, and it also has a slice taken out of the front of the anvil which I have never seen before.

The slice is very clean, I currently think it came From the factory like this, once I clean it I may have a different opinion. Also, I have a copy of Anvils in America somewhere in the post, so that may shine more light on it. I cannot find any Attwood catalogs online.

Outlaw, thanks got it now.

I used to work for a blacksmith in my teens that mostly did repairs to ag equipment, shoed horses and did the steel tires for wooded wheels. There were two full time blacksmiths and 3 of us kids learning the ropes.
There were no power hammers but he lined us kids up with sledge hammers at the anvil and then set the pace with his smaller hammer and then we in turn had to hit the red hot metal with the sledges. He got very agitated if we were not quick enough.

Kohlswa anvils are nice, I have two of them I bought new when I started full-time blacksmithing 35 years ago. At the time they were sold by Bill Pieh at Centaur Forge. They did have a reputation of being soft when new but if used carefully they would work harden after enough use. Yours looks like an exceptional example and a great size for general smithing. I have a 165# English Pattern (like yours) and a 235# double horn German pattern. The stump under my large anvil is an 8' chunk of 12" x 16" stood on end and buried under the shop floor. It doesn't move at all when struck. The other anvil is on a "portable base made of a piece of 12" I beam with 1/2" plate wedled top and bottom. Kohlswas are also fairly noisy anvils so both of mine are fastened securely to the base with a piece of truck inner tube under them. The joy of a "ringing" anvil grows old at the end of an 8 hour day.

Anvils on the pallet are some I've collected in my career.

In that shape, it had to follow me home. I sold off a couple lesser (smaller) anvils, a Peter Wright and a Mouse Hole to maintain the equilibrium.
