I am looking for examples of garage floors with large porcelain tiles. So, sizes of 24x24" or 12x24" and larger.

I know 12x12 is the most popular and the easiest format to install for a novice.

I am just trying to get an idea of the look of larger tiles as I am considering this for a (likely a distant) future project for my 22x20' garage.

Thank you!

Started 3 days ago....these were the pics from day 2. Should finish the tile tomorrow AM and grout tomorrow afternoon/the next AM. I'll post some more pics when finished. I"m doing 4" baseboard and Schulster Rondec bullnose gray trim at the top of the baseboard, but it's so light I"m going to just paint it the same color as the grey on the wall. Grout will be Mapei grey.

That looks great and nice progress in a couple of days! Thanks for sharing.
I agree on matching the baseboard with the wall color. It will look great when done.
We have 24x24" tile in the house, so having a garage match may be cool. But I'm leaning to 12x24" installed lenght-wise. It will be a while anyways as I've never laid a tile, so will likely need to pay someone to do it right and that won't be cheap.

I am actually thinking of exactly the similar shade of light gray as you have done. I'm also thinking about darker gray on the sides under the racks and one strip down the middle to visually separate the two parking spaces.
We'll see.

Looking forward to the finished pics!

That looks fantastic!! And I actually like the orientation you chose compared to the typical lenght-wise layout.

Nice work.

Doing a new floor and would like to do something other than epoxy.

How are you going to keep the grout joints clean? That is my concern with tile. We battle tile grout dirt inside the house.

Nice job.

I chose a darker grout....and would've done something even darker in retrospect. Regardless it's a 1/8 joint and I used rapid drying Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA, which doesn't need a sealer. By clean, I assume you mean discoloration? From the perspective of keeping debris out, I made sure we filled joints as full as possible?

w0w am I out of the loop ... porcelain tile imho has to be the worst choice for a garage .... unless you are a poser and just pretend to work on cars. :D

Oil and grease will soak up in the grout, drop a wrench and will crack the tile. In a year or 2 would just look like **** and be a serious maintenance issue if wanted to keep it nice.
I have enough on my plate before adding another task.
On the other hand there is some nice epoxy paint out there where you can get creative and paint a checkered board or a race track ... Life is to precious, don't waste your time putting porcelain tile in a garage.

You want to play with the big boys, get the good stuff, lets put some granite in there, you can repair if needed and more durable.

OK rant over ... I apologize to those I have offended. If I come to your garage and see cheap tile, I will keep my mouth closed and just smile :D

Yes sir I will take your advice, I am going to reply so I can hit the subscribe button, dummy me I forgo first time..
My only experience is from retiring as a remodel carpenter and working with tile for over 20 years..

My bathroom & kitchen on new to me1948 house will get porcelain. The back patio is getting fake terracotta from Mexico ...they have fake dog and cat prints in them.
They originally were sun dried, and critters would walk across them in the field.
These should have been rejected, but they sent them anyways. They turned out to be a huge hit.
Now they have the workers stamp in fake dog paw prints. So when you get a batch of tile in, you need to open every box and set aside the few that have prints, then set them in a pattern that kinda makes sense.

I LOVE TILE! just the last pick I would use to put in a garage. Actually VCT that commercial stores such as walmart uses, thats a good choice. Look at all the wear they get in a years time and hold up well ... I put that in a kitchen once, bought it from habitat for humanity for 30 cents a square foot.

Again I apologize to those I offended, I would never put porcelain tile in my garage.

Here's mine just after install. After two years, numerous drops of tools, a driveshaft, a small slab of granite, oil spills, transmission spills, antifreeze (it was like a damn lake in there!), etc.... It looks as good as it did on install. Done properly, I'm convinced it is the best floor coating for a garage. Garages (commercial) and parking structures across Europe have been using tile for years....

Looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing.

And I stated in the OP, yes, this thread is for the "fools" who think porcelain tile is the best garage flooring. The thread linked above is already debating it vs others materials.

This is for those interested in seeing/sharing formats and patterns other than 12x12 as drmarkr and angelfire very aptly demonstrated!

Your slice of paradise deserves its own thread!
I agree!
The tile photos are appropriate here and in Dakota's thread, but do a thread on the full garage space. There's much more to show off and discuss.

Love it. I would've like a little darker color, but that $0.65/sf made the light grey look pretty good, lol. What PEI is yours?

Oh you again. You need to research what 'PEI' means. The OP went so far as to mention the PEI rating.

Read the other thread. I think it's the one that talks about commercial garages finding porcelain a superior choice. Maybe that is because porcelain is different than ceramic.

Research the grout he used. OP noted it doesn't require sealer.

As the OP noted (in other words): Maybe you shouldn't post things that are so ............. that you even know to apologize before anyone points out how ............. what you said was : )
