I think so...haven't seen any "real deals" in the "real deals" flier in a while and my local store seems to be putting a much bigger emphasis on the gear wrench and craftsman in the store. It's really too bad.
The same at my local store. They also have some Milwaukee power tools in the store.

Just cruised on over to the NAPA website. Many of the Carlyle SKU’s are still out of stock that were out of stock before Covid. Prices of specific items such as ratchets increased 30-50%.

The brand has been mismanaged. There are no deals to be had. It’s a shame really.

There seems to be a history of NAPA abandoning lines of tools. It's a shame but it's business to them.

Put together a set of Carlyle combination wrenches a few years ago from 6 to 27mm no skips IIRC. They were most like, in appearance anyway, the Snap-on set I had to sell reluctantly. They're pretty nice actually very happy with them.

However didn't realize they came in both 6pt and 12pt and inadvertently ordered a mixture of both lol. The 6 pt wrenches are really nice, perhaps nicer than 12 pt but I wanted 12 pt nevertheless and ordered most of the wrenches I needed to fill in my set. Still have a bunch of 6 pts in my box that are unused in original packaging. The only wrench I was unable to replace was 24mm which had been on backorder for a couple years beginning around same time as Covid. As result of this thread just checked and they're back in stock! Will place order this morning. Have to figure out what to do with the 6 pts suppose it doesn't hurt having some spares just haven't found the need for 6pt combination wrench yet...

Someone in the Rust belt could benefit from those 6pt. In a pinch you can use a 15/16" wrench for 24mm. It is about .007" smaller. It should fit tighter than the 24mm.

Thanks, I have the 24mm in 6pt but I want it in 12 pt. to match rest of set.

I know, I know... thread useless without pics...

Just realized that my 23mm is standard length whereas the others are long so looks like I'll be ordering a 23 and 24 today... damn you GJ lol!!!!

The 6pt wrenches are actually kinda nice. Looks like I have 6-8 and 24-27 in 6pt...

Aren't 6 point supposed to grip better?
Like say you have a bolt or nut that started to round off.

Sure but also has half as many positions to engage fastener (every 60 degrees vs 30 with 12 pt). I prefer 12 pt just what I'm used to. Doesn't seem to matter as much today with so many options for ratcheting wrenches.

A few Carlyle pieces that I've acquired lately:

1/4 socket sets (no skips) and 3/8 deep impact swivels:

Sockets 1.jpg

Carbide scrapers and dead blow hammers:

Hammer1.jpg

A smattering of pliers:

IMG-6618.jpg
Pliers2.jpg

The mini locking pliers I found on the clearance rack at my local NAPA.

I'm pretty close to being "finished" stocking this box. Only things left are wrenches, 1/2 impact sockets (no chromes for me), and ratchets. All of this will likely be Carlyle as well. There has been some avaliability issues with their ratchets, specifically the locking flex ones. It appears that the current line is going to be replaced by 120T versions as evidenced here: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR12LF120

Hopefully they're going to be avaliable in soft grip handles.

I had to warranty a Carlyle R38L90 last week, ratcheting mechanism would randomly lock up. I took it apart and cleaned it several times, relubed, etc, nothing made any difference. One of the local NAPAs replaced it, but specifically said "We can only do this once". I was a bit surprised by this, as I am not sure how they would know if you had to warranty it a 2nd time....there was no paperwork involved, just swapped it out over the counter.

The heads were different between the two. The original held the ratcheting mechanism in place with sort of a recessed lock ring, the newer one has two screws in the rear.

A shame about how Carlyle has been handled, my local store was one that carried a pretty decent stock when the brand came out, and they were kind of my go-to for a while. You would think if anyone could disrupt the traditional tool truck model for professional techs (we bring the tools- including warranty replacements- to you) it would be Napa, since they could use an "order online or over the phone and our delivery drivers will bring it" model that would provide a lot of the benefits of tool trucks without as much overhead.

One thing I have noticed which might be indicative of Napa's priorities is the tool sponsorship on Ron Capps' Napa-sponsored funny car. Most NHRA teams (in the fuel classes at least) have some tool association since it is quite tool-centric (between round teardowns, etc.). When Napa rolled out Carlyle, there was significant Carlyle branding on the car- a good chunk of the rear spoiler sideplates, which is reasonably valuable real estate. After several years, the Carlyle logo was still there- and presumably Carlyle tools were used in the pits- but became substantially smaller, closer to contingency sponsor size. Then in 2021 (I think) Carlyle disappeared completely and GearWrench was the tool sponsor, with a fairly prominent presence on the spoiler side plates similar to how Carlyle was in the early years. As far as I know this has continued to the 2023 season.

Hoping they bring it back from the dead. I think they have one of the most complete tool lineups out there which isn't an easy feat in the first place. Pricing and availability just need to be worked on.

Think I am missing old days of Carlyle more than Craftsman!

Do the metric deep swivels have the size stamped into them, as well as laser etched?

Yes. The bases are etched. The socket portion themselves are stamped.

FWIW, I have been in quite a few corporate-owned NAPA stores lately. Two of these were new builds. All had a pretty sizable Carlyle selection including racks of singles, railed socket sets, and some specialty tools. Craftsman and Evercraft are usually stocked as cheaper options. Typical "Good Better Best."

As far as Ron Capps' goes, I can't speak much to that. Interesting that they'd replace Carlyle with Gearwrench, but perhaps they needed to bring in a "friendly" sponsor (NAPA also sells GW) and scaling back the amount of sponsorship dollars.

New Real Deals dropped recently. I checked it out today. Appears as though they just released a complete set of insulated tools (for EV repair) under the Carlyle banner.

No mention of new ratchets that I mentioned earlier, however.

The first quarter real deals has Klein pliers listed. I didn't see them in the 2nd quarter real deals.

Local store owner warranted a w ratchet wrench for me , I took the new one and handed him the old one. He said keep it, Napa gives him so much “warranty “ credit each month as a percentage of bulk orders. Sounds stupid to me, I always thought Napa kept track of defective parts and tools to see pattern failure and address. Guess I was wrong.

I think they need to rebrand these catalogs as Real Ripoffs

Find a kit for it. Will a Matco or Gearwrench kit work?

You can fine it online but gotta jump through hoops. I found it once but can't find it again. Don't know what I clicked through to get there. For what it's worth there is little to no information about it on the web page and no pictures.

I found it by searching Carlyle Tools and selecting the Ratchet filter. There's about a half dozen with no picture that are new. Here's what I have found so far:

1/4" Locking Flex Stubby (4") - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR14LFS120
3/8" Locking Flex Stubby (5") - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR38LFS120
3/8 Locking Flex (9.5") - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR38LF120
3/8" Locking Flex Long (14") - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR38LFL120
3/8" Bent Handle Locking Flex - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR38FBH120
1/2" Locking Flex (19") - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR12LF120

Also, they have listed this 1/4 bit ratchet kit - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTR14M90

I'm hoping they add a 1/2" locking flex in the ~24" range.

Got a chance to put the new carlyle ratchet to work today. Either I got a lemon or they are having a similar issue as when the icons first released. Didn't put any real pressure or torque on it at all and it's locked up. Guess I'll see what their warranty is like.

That's unfortunate to hear. Mine arrived in the store on Tuesday. Hoping to swing by there today or tomorrow to pick it up.

A little late, but the latest haul. Pics of the new R38LF120 vs the R38LFQR.

The new ratchet has a NOTICEABLY larger head. The comfort grip is also a lot less soft and more like a plastic than the rubberized grip of the old ratchet.

The old ratchet is one of my favorites. This one I’ll be returning. Sadly, it seems as though the R14LFQR and the R12LFQR are both unavailable, the former of which is not even on the site any longer. The R38 is still in stock and can be ordered.

I’m trying to track down a 1/4 and 1/2 locking flex. If anyone has a new one kicking around, please let me know. Otherwise, I’ll probably be buying SnapOn for those specific ratchets.
