Several of these items change price when added to cart. Those insulated drivers jump to $80.99. I noticed this yesterday. Also some items IN your cart will randomly jump up in price. Wasted too much time fooling with their screwed up website for not that great of tools. Im out.

Tons of the open stock individual sockets are clearance priced.
The metric angle wrench set which I believe are 30/60 were around $40 for me which is a screaming deal.
Double box wrench set was $32?
Some of the adjustable wrenches are priced really well. $8-20
Too much to list it all.
It's a shame their website ***** so bad. I would have pulled the trigger on several items. Just over the unstable pricing algorithm and ship to store changing to delivery on a whim.
NAPA's website has been a sinkhole for years. Really disappointing they continue to let it remain in that sad state.

Looks like the Carlyle deals are finally back again. The SAE and Metric Hex Screwdriver sets are both on clearance for $20.

Appreciate the tip on the angle wrenches. The NAPATEXT promo code worked for me on that set and brought it down to $30.

One thing I did notice with pricing. Even if you're shipping to home, you need to make sure you have a CORPORATE store picked as you store. If it's a franchise, it goes back to full retail. As always, YMMV.
I did figure out that the oddball stubby wrench I received was Made in China vs. Taiwan. It's also slightly longer than it should be based upon the ones next to it. I've ordered 3 more with the hopes of getting one that matches. I'll update if/when that happens.

What’s the best the way to get a better price on Carlyle 90 tooth ratchets? They were once affordable when the line debuted, but after Covid the pricing got weird. They’re priced similar to MAC and MATCO now. What’s that all about?
They held a decent sale on many ratchets during their Q4 Real Deals last year, 2023. Doesn’t help you now, but they might do something similar again…

I can’t imagine anyone is buying Carlyle ratchets at the current pricing. I’ll keep my eyes open for a sale, but it would have to be 50% off to get me to bite… Because that’s what the prices used to be and that’s all they’re worth.

From what I can tell, the price changes when shipping is selected instead of store pickup, regardless of it being a corporate or franchise location. I've tried it with both. Some items couldnt be picked up and automatically switched to shipping which increased the pricing.

That bit ratchet I find extremely handy. I work on a lot of small engine and powersports stuff, so I use it quite a bit.
Angle wrenches came in today. $25. I only need 1-2 sizes but for the price I might as well buy the set. These are great for doing alignments on the quads and whatnot.

And the wrench saga continues…. I bought three more 3/4” stubbles. All were the “new”supplier. I noticed the tags note “Made in China”. Not too happy about that. I ended up just ordering the complete SAE set in hopes there all from Taiwan. The “loose” set I will be posting for sale shortly.
The big order was finally pulling the trigger on a set of line wrenches. I wanted to go SnapOn here, but the Carlyles have great reviews and are a hell of a lot less. Anyway, I received two clearly different wrench sets. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized that they sent me two SAE sets (part number is the same aside from an “M” suffix denoting metric).
Here again are two sets from different suppliers, the newer of which is again marked Made in China. The Taiwanese set has a notably thinner end. If I had to guess, the Chinese units use inferior steel and this necessitate more steel to keep strength up. Attached you’ll find quite a few photos. In all photos, the Taiwanese wrenches are on top with China on the bottom.
So I have to wonder, this “new” Carlyle line coming from Napa. Are they going to be Chinese wrenches? If so, that will be very disappointing to say the least. These tools haven’t been a good value in a few years unless you grab a sale. Dropping the quality makes them a non-starter for me.
I’m already kind of disappointed about the future warranty implications with the rebranding. While I could live with a “green” tool, I don’t want a warranty replacement of inferior quality.

I also ordered the T-handles because they’re very handy when working with Powersports and small engine equipment. Most of my work falls into those categories. I ordered them thinking that the spinner had ball bearings like the Motion Pro. Instead, they ride on ball detents and have adjustable depth. Not as smooth as bearings but not bad either. I’ll likely put some grease down there and call it a day.
Anyways, I have Metric line wrenches on order and some clearance stuff coming in Friday supposedly. I’ll update when that arrives.

I picked up the metric DBE wrench set shown above. I had to find a ~$2 10mm socket to add on the order for free shipping; of course they came in two different packages. The wrench set must've been sitting in the warehouse for a decade as it had a thick coating of dust on it.
I haven't used them yet, but the quality, as far as appearance, is excellent; they have that classic Craftsman raised panel look as you can see.
Not sure why NAPA bothers with Carlyle. The normal prices are just too expensive in comparison to other import tools, and my locally owned store stocks nothing by Carlyle. Because outside of GJ (when there's a sale), or maybe a local repair shop that gets a big discount, who buys tools at NAPA? I'm guessing almost no one. I'm actually surprised my local NAPA stays in business as there's an Advance next to it, and an O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, and Carquest within a mile of it, and all in a town with 12k people. And they all sell the same **** for exactly the same price- which is now typically 2X as much as the same thing costs online. When they opened the O'Reilly's, the last of the parts stores in town, my first thought was "WTF were they thinking?"

Thanks for posting the box end wrenches. NAPA's site doesn't show much. I've been thinking seriously about buying a set at the price they are but lack of a NAPA anywhere nearby and the crappy photos have held me back.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I know the guys at the local Napa as well as the outside sales rep.
To put it plainly: NAPA thrives on commercial business and don’t care about walk-in customers. Having worked in this business before, the big names like Advance and AutoZone at the higher levels do not have the mindset to go after and maintain commercial business. These companies are ran like a Walmart and as such often care more about metrics than they do operating a commercial auto parts business.
On the other hand, NAPA (and others like AutoValue and such) are much the opposite. Many probably wouldn’t even have a retail storefront if they could get away with it. Inventory control, plan-o-grams, etc. aren’t important to them. Even the corporate stores are still operating like it’s 1985 to some degree. A lot of old processes, paper documents, etc.
As for Carlyle tools, they reportedly sold pretty well until they jacked up the pricing in 2020. Now as you mentioned they’re not competitive 90% of the time. The “rebranding” mentions nonsense about how today’s mechanics demand quality and value. I guess sourcing cheaper tools from China and sticking like green labels on them are meant to portray that.
Which brings me to the final chapter in the Chinese stubby wrench saga. Last week, I ordered in the complete SAE set before Christmas because some of the singles I ordered were Chinese.
Today I dropped by the store to pick everything up. The wrenches were all bounced around in the sealed packaging/tray. Sloppy presentation and rough handling, but I don’t care. What irks me more is that the whole set was now Made in China and again not on par with the Taiwanese units as far as quality. Manager agreed to do me a solid and take back the singles that I bought. I will be replacing them with Icons.
I did pick up a few other things. SAE angle wrenches, 1/2” ratchet, etc. The knife features a D2 steel blade and was on sale for $30. I’ve been wanting a thinner EDC knife and have been trying to find the Ozark Trail one in stock. For $30, I’ll give this one a shot.
This is probably my last Carlyle purchase unless there’s a screaming deal on double box ratcheting flex wrenches or something. Overall, I’m half with what I’ve purchase and the price I paid. Its disappointing to see how NAPA fumbled this one.
