Same issue with my local Napa's. Little to nothing in stock. If there is stock it's behind the counter collecting dust. They won't let you back there to check it out. So therefore I own zero Carlyle tools. Same thing with Advance Auto and the Gearwrench tools. Always behind the counter but they always have same stuff in stock as all the others. At least my local Advance will let you behind the counter to look closer. So therefore I own some Gearwrench.

I think it depends if you're shopping at a franchise NAPA or a corporate NAPA store as to how much Carlyle they have.

Parts clerks, well are parts clerks. :wtf: a Good one is truly worth their weight in gold but, those are few and far between. I've learned to lower my expectations when dealing with Parts Clerks. One thing that irks the hell out of me whether I'm visiting a booth at AAPEX/SEMA, chatting with a tool truck dealer, or ordering something online, is that no one seems to know their product these days.

From simple questions about battery testers to hand tools, getting a straight answer is harder than one would think especially when talking to a manufacturer's rep.

Anyway, back to Carlyle. My servicing store and area distribution center is well stocked most of the time. Of course, NAPA will list something in the real deals flyer that I want, and no one will have it:wtf:

I really like the Carlyle tools that I've purchased but, that's just me

If my local NAPA had them in stock and in plain view I probably would have bought one to have in my work bag, but now that I'm comfortably positioned behind my keyboard I'll be looking for a used Dual 80 or Armstrong.

That happened to me. They had some of the Snap On knock off cutter/crimper/stripper combo tool and no one in Ohio had them. I think he said the closest was Portland Oregon. He even said that he wouldn't even order them for me.

So overall which set is of higher stronger quality do you think, Crescent X2, Carlyle P900, or Gear wrench double X versions??
The pliers are all identical in every way besides the grips. I definitely prefer the NAPA/Carlyle or Gearwrench with the thinner grips. I have the Crescent set at home, and the handles can just be too bulky when dealing with cramped spaces.

I like that the sockets are snap on replicas almost. They have a pretty decent fit and finish for the price. I bought 1/4-1/2 6 point deep and metric, standard and deep to replace my old craftsman set. I use them professionally now and they've held up so they're a go in my book.

I think this is spot-on regarding the various NAPA stores ... they are not all created equal.

My local NAPA store in Virginia has no Carlyle whatsoever ... nada, zip. They don't even seem interested in ordering anything.

However, my local NAPA in Ohio has a good selection of Carlyle tools (albeit, they are all behind the counter) and what they don't have in stock they can get by the next day, before noon. The counter guys are great and will bring to you and let you fondle any Carlyle stuff you wish. Interestingly, the Evercraft tools are on an open rack in front of the counter so they must not care if the Evercraft gets swiped or not!!

My Napa offers a 30% discount on all Carlyle tools on Saturday mornings for an hour after opening. Dom if all Napas do this but definitely worth a look.

I have the 90 tooth 3/8s with the comfort grip and the 1/2 I like them both quite a lot. Both of mine were basically dry when I got them so I added some grease and they both felt a lot smoother and got a lot more quiet.

Has anyone tried out their torque wrenches? Looking to get a new one soon and I might try them out

First post on the forum and I made my first Carlyle purchase so this seemed like as good a place as any to start. I'm a bit miffed that the precision screwdriver set has magnetic tips but I should be able to find some use for them. The sockets appear excellent. Much nicer than the Craftsman set I've been making do with and at least on the level with the few older SK sockets I have.

The tips look about right, though it's difficult to tell from such a poor quality photograph. I guess the magnetic tips might come in handy for eyeglasses and such. I won't be getting them too close to any electronics...

The socket photos turned out much better! I really like the radius on the edges and I think that the mid-depth form factor will come in handy. The metric set should be in tomorrow and I'll have a look at the quality of the knurling.

I was gonna replace my Craftsman Pro wrench set for some SO Flanks until I visited NAPA yesterday. I'm impressed with their wrench design, it's basically a SO Flank knock-off. I might consider the Carlyle wrench set instead of the SO Flanks. Their product line also huge ...

Ok so can some one tell me how there combo wrenches and ratchets have held up? I was going to buy a 1/4 ratchet the one made by craftsman is 72 teeth about 40. Not much more I could by the Carlyle so I want a little info b4 I buy. Also I want to know if the nonslip on the wrenches actually work good or just for looks

Been using the Carlyle 3/8" quick release and the 3/8"stubby ratchets for a few months. The only complaint I have would be that they ship very dry on lube. Few drops of super lube and good to go. Also bought the 3/8" mid depth sockets and really like them, fit and finish are great and the stamping is nice and heavy.

the wrenches are about the best you can buy for taiwan made.
as for the ratchets, ive never used the carlyle, but i would buy it over the craftsman, just off of reviews on this site. unless you are trying to keep things matching buying the craftsman.

Can you say you put a excessive amount of force and the non slip works?

Pretty good synthetic oil (there is a grease as well) that works well on small moving parts. I bought a small dispenser pen at the local hardware store.

That does seem a little steep considering the price of a 1/4 roto head ratchet from Gearwrench.

I would really like some Carlyle tools, ive seen some reviews on youtube of the ratchets and spanners. Gotta say they look good quality. Unfortunately over here in England they are hard to purchase without importing from US and then they become as much as say SO or Mac tools because of postage and import dutys.:sad:
