to all the 2 post asy litft owners out there. What kind of room do i need in front of my posts for clearance??? is 9 ft enough or do i need more?

reason is my pad is 31ft and i want to put it in the back centre of my shop. i have lots of height in the midle but i want to be able to park 2 vehicles behind each post when i'm not using it.

My asymmetric lift suggests the front of the post should be 11' 4" away from the wall for clearance.

Other manufacturers may suggest other distances.

Here is mine from my build that I did last summer. It is a Rotery, that I got in Black.

Here is a couple of shots before I put all my stuff in:

Now with most of everything in it:

I don't know how I was able to get by without my lift, I have used it a ton. It was money well spent, that is for sure!!!

Mine is a bit of a different scenario, I have ~30' from my post to my front wall, as I am building a mezzanine to park cars under, but there is just over 11' from the post to where the mezzanine will end.

Here's a few shots of my lift...I don't do ANY mechanical work on my cars, but I like to detail them. Being able to lift them up is so much easier on my bad back. I went with a recessed lift so I could still park two cars next to each other when the lift wasn't in use. I love it!

This is an old Western Lift made in Texas in '96. I found it on craigslist for $700. I had to rebuild one cylinder. Works peachy keen.

In constant use, in fact, all jobs are booked based on when the lift will be open. Additional lifts would be nice, but as I'm the only guy doing the work, there wouldn't be much point ;)

Hmm, I guess I never realised how hard ot was to get a picture of the actual lift itself, all I can find are pictures of cars dangling in the air...

I have a Snap-on mid-rise lift. I bought it through a Snap-on district representative. It was a demo and he said it was the very first production unit. He said it had toured around the country doing trade shows. It came with a free glass of Kool-Aid.

I was surprised this morning when I opened the GJ forum and saw my little tandem garage in the lift thread! Haven't been on awhile due to lots of work stuff. The garage automobilia has increased since this photo was taken but still have the same cars. The single post lift is from Gemini Lifts in Texas. I understand it can be purchased through different dealers too.
I had the lift height shortened slightly (8") to accomodate the sloped ceiling, the ramps shortend 12" to accomodate most any Porsche car, and had it painted the grey color. I think standard colors are white and black.
It serves my purpose well as a storage lift although I've removed and installed
motors in the cars and done service work. Spacing between the ramps works just right motor removal.

I think mine is probably the only one here that's not actually a lift -- but works as one for my purposes. It's a Vestil hydraulic lift table.

It eats up zero floor space.

cleandown.jpg

It can also be used to raise stuff up to load in my Jeep or even as a work surface.

I get instant access to wheels, brakes, suspension, engine, transaxle, exhaust and axles. The 911 (and Beetle) layout is pretty unique, though.

With my low ceiling, the fact that it gets the engine 38" above the floor is about as good as I could hope for. It wouldn't make sense for most guys, but it's working very well for me.

And it was dirt cheap.

A video:

Mine doesn't really take any floor space up, and I guess it could be used as TWO long skinny work tables if I wanted. LOL!

If you totally ignore the mess in the picture, I've got a Gemini GR-12-L in there. Its rated at 12,000 lbs, and its the long version with 16' Tracks. (Most of my toys are long and heavy.) It lifts the '37 Ford pickup that's sitting on it in the photo like its not even there. :)

Here is mine. Both down and up. Perfect for atv's and snowmobiles, which is what I mainly work on. And yes, I have had a couple small cars on it, properly supported also.

My lift that I am currently using is a 7000 pound Benwil drive over two post. It is nice, because I only have 12'6" ceilings, most of the lifts needed 13' or more. It is going to be sold and I have a Mohawk TP-15 (two post-15k pound capacity). I figure once I sell the Benwil, I will hopefully have enough money to install the Mohawk, it is going to be plumbed under ground and my ceiling will have pockets in it to clear the rams from the Mohawk. Oh and excuse the mess in the shop, that is for a different thread.

The lift arms on the mohawk are crazy heavy duty. The pads still are only 5" off the ground, my benwil is the same height for the pads.

Picked this Rotary assymetrical up at an auction, had rams re-packed, then installed.

Ok, I just realized that I secretly hate you all with your million square foot garages and thousand feet high ceilings, and your totally awesome cars. NYC is starting to piss me off because of this post. Maybe I don't hate you all, just jealous or something. I can't even get some of my cars into my garage period, let alone even consider a lift.

Slickgt, I can understand. My father in law lives in downtown Baltimore and is totally jealous of all of my space. The quick answer, though? Want space = don't live in the city.

And I didn't have the ceiling height for my lift until I got, um... "creative". Direct lift pro park 8s. Crappy cell phone pics though, sorry!

A lighting idea for your lift, IKEA has LED lighting strips for not to much money, running a couple sets in series along the inside drip pan track gives plenty of clearance for the pans.
They put out pretty good light for poking around without dragging a trouble light all the time.

Bend Pak Single post

After a year of deliberation, then long order times, then long installation scheduling, finally got my Bend Pak Single post lift installed yesterday. Will update my gallery site plus the thread on single post lifts. So far so good. T

Had this in about 2 or 3 months now. 9k lb 2 post. I've got 15' ceilings on this side so no worries there. I cant properly express how much I enjoy having my own lift.
