Thanks. Neat. Any guess on the age? 70’s ?
That sign is from one of the most memorable estate sales I attended, and almost got me banned from the sale. The owner’s home had burned, and he was liquidating his entire detached shop through an estate sale company. This sale was complete mayhem, there was no household so there had to be a line of 30 guys waiting outside the shop that morning before opening. It happened to be the sale I found another piece, the Snap On WWII Bell Aircraft landing gear ratchet.
Also, the same sale where two men nearly came to blows over a large piece of shop machinery that it turned out both were buying at the same time through two differnt workers. One guy had his hand on the macbine and another was walking over with an employee from up front. This was at 9AM mind you, when they got to arguing in front of everyone at the packed sale. One guy lost it and started cussing his head off,was thrown out, and told never to return. Never seen an estate sale fight quite like that.
Anyway, I had made my way up the stairs going to the attic above the garage. There was one older man up there and I thought he was an employee. We were just making some small talk when I came down the stairs and noticed the sign on the wall along the stairs. It wasn’t priced and I asked him if it was for sale. He said yes and gave me a price, so I took it off the wall and he told the cashier how much. A little while later when I asked him the price on another item, the estate company owner confronted me and said “please stop following the owner around and asking him for prices because it’s not fair to the sale.”. I was like

It turned out the home owner was the man I had been dealing with. I felt like an idiot but I’m quite positive they were peeved about the price he gave me on that sign and were afraid to say anything to him. Very unusual for the owner to be hanging around like that but turned out he was there helping out. Heck, I would want to do the same myself if possible.
